Dimentio21 | reply to Francis posted 9 months ago There's a YouTube channel I used to watch called Nintendo Black Crisis, he does vids on Zelda and Paper Mario, often theories or discoveries.
Francis 8 months ago | 10 | **Paper Mario: The Origami King - July 17th** * Rescue Peach from King Olly. Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers. * Extend your arms to interact with the environment and solve puzzles * New, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit. https://papermario.nintendo.com/ |
Francis | Looks like Color Splash but with more traditional battles. Mario has simple jump and hammer attacks in this video that don't seem to be tied to any collectible items. Also partners, even if they are generic enemies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ez5EZ1AIVWo
TheEvilShadoo | I woke up today and this was one of the first things I saw on YouTube today. I've got a good feeling about this one! Even though it may look like color splash, it at least seems to have an interesting story going for it! No FP or attack gauge on the HUD bar though...
ucantbeme | 1 | Story? In MY Paper Mario? Wowee! |
TheEvilShadoo | I'm definitely not jinxing it, but even if the new PM game fails like the last two (IT CAN'T), it could at the very least bring more people to play SPM and maybe find out about Digibutter
TheEvilShadoo | 1 | Theory: Sticker Star had too many Toads, Color Splash had too many Shy Guys. The Origami King looks like he's a Shy Guy, Nintendo's probably trying to trick us into thinking he's the main antagonist when it could be ...someone else ... |
Dimentio21 | Perhaps we'll find out who's truly responsible for the invasion of Toads and Shy guys...
rando | I hope this is Schweeeet
Lady Crumpette | plz have partnerz
Dimentio21 | 1 | This trailer was actually #1 on YouTube trending the other day. Have we reached a point in time where paper Mario is popular? |
Dimentio21 | Wait why is that a link
Francis 7 months ago | 3 | More deets. Kamek partner! The hidden toads are very Color-Splashy, but at least it seems optional. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CB7KBIgn2m0 |
Mr. L Productions | 2 | I never actually played the first two Paper Mario games or Super Mario RPG, so I've never played a Mario game with Partners. I'm excited to see this much loved feature in action. I can't wait to see what one of the most loved aspects of the original Paper Mario games looks like in action. Yay! |
Dimentio24 | 1 | Hey, if you have a Wii u you can get PM64 on the Eshop really cheap, if you want to try one of the older PM games that's a good option |
Mr. L Productions | Yeah, I'm gonna get PM64 and SM RPG: LOT7S on Wii U store soon
Francis 6 months ago | 8 | I was going to go digital, but instead should I preorder the physical Origami King release to get these pins? https://media.gamestop.com/i/gamestop/papermario_origamiking_bonusLG.webp |
DanganFan Hiyoko | I'm not one for pre-order "bonuses". but the pins do look pretty cool. they are missing Luigi and the main new companion tho.
Vaos | i agree they are well made, if your a big mario fan i say go for it, but honestly im gonna just get it base game instead
kimilsung65 | I would preorder for those pins, I've always preferred physical copies of games on consoles, but I'd say for me it would depend on the preorder price. (p.s. its good to see you back here Francis)
Francis | 3 | Yeah it's a pretty weak bonus. The UK gets actual origami and magnets. https://img.game.co.uk/merch2020/Games/PaperMario/PMTOK_OrigamiSheets.jpg https://img.game.co.uk/merch2020/Games/PaperMario/PaperMarioTOK_magnetsheet.jpg |
Vaos | now thats pretty awesome, and on theme
TheEvilShadoo | Those pins do look pretty schweeet, but personally I’m just going to pick up a physical copy of the base game.
Mr. L Productions | I got the origami and magnets!
Dimentio24 | The origami/magnet stuff looks Schweet

Francis 6 months ago | 8 | Reviews are coming in... https://www.metacritic.com/game/switch/paper-mario-the-origami-king/critic-reviews |
Francis | I haven't see anyone directly compare to Color Splash, but the reviewer at Ars Technica said in the comments "I didn't like Color Splash or Sticker Star much at all. Origami King is definitely more engaging than those two." He also said it was the "Mario Party of RPGs" due to all the mini-games.
Dimentio24 | Just one more day...
Francis | reply to anon posted 5 months ago spoiler: https://wiki.isi.jhu.edu/images/1/1d/It%27s_a_secret_to_everybody.gif
Francis | 1 | reply to anon posted 5 months ago basically a Super Mario Maker MMO where everything is user-generated |
Is there a way I can see progress on it and more about it?
Francis | sorry, not yet >_> You can browse the old forum posts from early development http://digibutter.nerr.biz/topics/board/8516/betalands
Coldcolor900 | 3 | reply to Francis posted 4 months ago i dont like when people say "sticker star and color splash is bad so that means origami king is bad" why do people choose to make that judgement? its my second favorite in the series with super at first. |
Mr. L Productions | 2 | Same. TOK is my #2 after SPM. Are you me? XD |
Coldcolor900 | 1 | i mean, we have similar hats |
Mr. L Productions | Yeah, lol.
Icy_A | 1 | Overall, I like TOK a lot better than CS. TOK is better than the previous 2 in every aspect, but there is still a lot to fix about it. Such as implementing EXP and adding new character designs, which Nintendo refuses to do with paper mario for some reason. I think that PM will get a lot better from here though since this is closest to the originals than the previous two. |
TheEvilShadoo | Yeah, I think we were all hoping that Nintendo would have an epiphany with TOK and realize their flaws with the previous two Paper Mario games, but now like you said in your reply, here we go waiting again. Also, welcome to Digibutter!
Francis 25 days ago | 5 | Merry Christmas everyone! (sorry I'm late and have been MIA) Hope you're having a fun holiday season full of video games. This year I tried to work through my lingering backlog plus a few new games like Paper Mario Origami King. And I have now beaten every Super Mario game, since I finished up this year: Odyssey, Lost Levels, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, NSMB2, and Super Mario Run. Also finished Luigis Mansion Dark Moon, NES Remix 2, & Smash Bros Ultimate. Beat indie games Pikuniku, Sayonara Wild Hearts, Donut County, A Short Hike, and Celeste. What about you? |
Dimentio21 | 1 | Good lineup! I haven't really kept track of what games I beat this year, kind of surprised you hadn't played galaxy 2. This year was my first time playing Mario Sunshine, it's pretty fun but not as good as the other 3D Marios |
Francis | I had played it but never finished (and I'm not counting bonus worlds and collectibles). Maybe next year I'll finish all the Zeldas... but like I gave Skyward Sword another try this year and just couldn't care enough to see it through to the end so maybe not.
TheEvilShadoo | 1 | Those are some schweet games! I want to try out the Mario and Luigi games again in 2021. Loosing my save data once in Superstar Saga just made me give up on it. I'm currently playing through the original Half Life because it's $1.99 during the Steam Winter Sale. |
Mr. L Productions | The M&L games are worth a walkthrough for sure. However, now I own a GameCube I have two goals: 1) Complete Die Hard: Vendetta 2) Purchase Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and play it on my channel.
Francis | and wrapping up the year with Donkey Kong Country 2 Diddy's Kong Quest. (Highly overrated IMO)
Francis 15 days ago | 4 | "Due to their objects containing crucial code, every scene in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door contains either Mario, Peach or Bowser. If the characters are not visible in the scene, they are simply hidden off-screen (note Mario and Peach in the darkness below the scenes)." https://twitter.com/MarioBrothBlog/status/1346469507280191491/photo/1 |
FishyG | I completely get that lol. Some of my prototypes would just break entirely when the main character wasn't in a room. So for some of my menu screens the player is set to invisible, and set to receive no input.
TheEvilShadoo | Huh, that’s interesting although I guess that makes sense.
GamerKid | Interesting | |
DefinitelyNotATerminator21 | Kinda neat. |
