Most likely a port, which will be sad... You know, the switch has good games and all... But if they keep porting games, then we'll start to get disappointed. We had a LOT of ideas for a new Smash and new Mario Kart, so it'll be sad knowing it's just a port. Unless they make a port for MK8 and Smash 4 and then later on in the Switch's life they make an actual Mario Kart and Smash, which would be pretty good.

I don't think BIS needed a remake, the original was already perfect

I think this is going to be a whole new game. Based on a few comments from Sakurai's Twitter and the general look they are giving it. It seems pretty fresh.

I've heard people say that it's because BIS relied heavily on the DS's duel screens meaning it needed to be released on a DS. PiT didn't really utilize the top screen, so it could end up on the Switch at some point. Other rumors suggest the amount of new graphics needed for PiT compared to BIS and the popularity of BIS. I have a feeling the dark tone of PiT also influenced the decision.

I'd rather it not be a port, but like Smash Bros Wii U has only been out for 3 years. I guess I could see them making a new Smash Bros for the Switch but right now I'm slightly leaning more to the port side.

Port is relative, I mean it seems unnecessary to build an entire new engine and character models from scratch. But you could spend some time reskinning and tweaking things, adding a few new modes and items to make it feel like a new game. The fact is they could simply re-release Wii U version with all the DLC and a few minor tweaks/additions and this would fly off the shelf, and their shareholders would probably be pissed if they didn't take the easy money.

kinda like majoras mask then, id be down with that, though there are hints of a new theme song to so it would be more of a whole new game using the same assets and characters, still thats cool if thats the case

I don't know, really, I REALLY love all their soundtracks. But for me, number 1 is a tie between Color Splash and SPM, number 2 is a tie between TTYD and Paper Mario, and number 3 is Sticker Star.

I hope so too, but I reckon they'll still follow the format of color splash and sticker star despite fans wanting the original format. Also, someone told me that the creator of the first few paper Mario games didn't want to make any more after SPM which is why the format got changed. I'm not sure how true that is but that's what I heard.

I think what is more likely is that they continue the Mario & Luigi series and just drop Paper Mario. Maybe all these M&L remakes is a way to keep the series (and maybe Fawful) relevant as they lead up to a new title. I don't really blame them, since the paper theme is kinda played out as far as it can go. Personally I'd like to see a "Super Mario & Luigi" platformer RPG.

I've never really gotten into the M&L series but I want to get into it (at least after my exams). To be honest though, I just want a game like Paper Mario TTYD.

I cannot help but suspect it is~! Though the Wii U's short lifespan might make it feel like it hasn't been long enough since the previous game, a new Smash Bros is usually released within a couple of years of a new console's release. Right on time!

Overall I think Super had the best OST, but Paper has some of the best individual tracks. Nothing can beat the "New Member" theme for me, even if it's so short.
