I don't know much about Game Maker, but that looks pretty good

why would you use game maker for something of this scale? Its such a cluttered and shitty engine. This is like using a hammer and nails to bake a cake.

I don't know what Crump is doing with Unity when obviously Game Maker has so much more power.

right now I'm making a retro SNES-style top-down action game with Unity

I'm doing the same using the id Tech 4 engine. So much power!

lol, you can't even mobile/Wii/Wii U/Web Browser export; have fun with your "powerful" engine, lol

The joke was you don't need Unity or id Tech 4 to make a retro SNES RPG because that's bloated and overpowered as hell for that kind of game.

That doesn't hold, then. Unity is being optimized for 2D support, with a complete 2D physics engine and everything. Once Unity's 2D tools hit with 4.3, really, what reason would you have to develop in Game Maker, (Or other popular 2D engines), especially when most of them don't support console and Blackberry deployment?

If it can make 2D games that can run on a potato from the early 2000s then sure. Otherwise it's got unneeded bloat.
