When Capcom woke up this morning, it decided it would like to have roughly a bajillion more dollars by this time next year. It walked over to a secret panel in its foyer, slid it open and pressed a button inside labeled "New Monster Hunter." A press release was instantaneously launched announcing Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, the next PSP-based entry in the franchise, due out in Japan in late 2010.

The announcement heralds new monsters and areas to explore, an expanded "Felyne Comrade" system (we're pretty sure that's Russian for "cat friend") and improved co-op play. There's no word on plans for localization, but Capcom's been pretty diligent in unleashing the Monster Hunter series worldwide. You can get your first look at the outrageously large-sworded title in a trailer posted after the jump.

[Thanks Krystian!]

Real or not, this God of War music video is absolutely hilarious. Set to Robin Thicke's "Sex Therapy," the music video made its premiere on X-Play tonight. We've learned two things from watching this clip: 1) Kratos' character design looks ridiculous outside of the game's context and 2) Kratos should never, ever show his "softer" side.

Too bad this video isn't going to be used by Sony for promotional purposes. As revealed by this behind-the-scenes video, it's a rather elaborate experiment conducted by G4. It is quite possibly the greatest thing the network has ever done, and deserves a look after the break.

Tales of Phantasia may become one of the few titles to be re-released twice on a single platform. In 2006, Namco Bandai launched an updated version of the classic SNES RPG for PSP (although it never found a Stateside release), and now it looks to be releasing that same game one more time.

Thankfully, Tales of Phantasia X won't just be the original game in a shinier box. In addition to a remake of Tales of Phantasia, the pack will include the Narikiri Dungeon sequel. Phantasia X is planned for release later this year, roughly fifteen years after the original's debut.

Looking at the reading list, last week was all about GDC and God of War III reviews (the latter of which are averaging a stunning 93/100). Personally, I spent much of my week either connecting the community with the GoW devs, doing the GDC press conference thing, or connecting the media with people within PlayStation so they could write some of the stories you see below. Fortunately, Chris is working on a number of GDC follow-up stories that you’ll be seeing over the next few days.

In the meantime, feel free to link to anything good you’ve seen this week that we’ve missed.

Evan Wells doesn't look like he's old enough to be co-president of Naughty Dog, does he? Even after shepherding Uncharted 2 through development, which has picked up just about every award on the planet, he still maintains his youthful vim and vigor. While we don't know what his eternal youth secret is, he did give us the inside scoop on the workings at Naughty Dog when we spoke with him at GDC.

Besides letting us know about their new studio and the hectic days just before shipping Uncharted 2, he also talks PlayStation Move development, Jak and Daxter plans (he wants to see one on the PS3), and expanding Uncharted to the PSP. Pause your game and head on through the break for the full interview.

Last month, Krome Studios‘ Steve Stamatiadis introduced you to Blade Kitten, an upcoming hi def 2D action game coming exclusively to PSN this Spring. It’s about time we hear more about the cat-girl with the pink hair, yeah?

Good thing “Space Captain” Steve flew in from Brisbane, Australia to show off Blade Kitten to us during GDC. In this interview, Steve talks about the game’s origins as a comic-book-meant-to-be-the-origin-for-a-game, the game’s vivid art style, and when you’re going to get to play it – along with some never-before-seen video.

Let us know what you think so far, and I’ll pass your feedback to Krome!

Sam and Max will bring their off-kilter humor to PlayStation 3 for the first time in The Devil's Playhouse: The Penal Zone, the first episode in a new season of Telltale's episodic adventure series. In a first for the PlayStation Store, the full season -- consisting of five monthly episodes -- will become available for pre-order on March 18, nearly a month before The Penal Zone launches on April 15.

While PC and Mac owners will receive substantial benefits for pre-ordering the full season, including a free game episode, access to developer chats and extra downloadable goodies, Telltale noted that it also has a deal in store (you know, actually in the store) for console players. According to Telltale PR manager Chris Schmidt, pre-ordering the full pack will reduce the cost to $29.99, a minor but not unwelcome discount from the regular price of $34.95.

Speaking to Joystiq at a meeting during the Game Developers Conference on Friday, Schmidt also addressed the obvious question: Will this season of Sam & Max come to Xbox 360 or Wii? He called it a "definite possibility" a few months down the line, and noted that it's in Telltale's best interest to work with more partners and deliver its games to as wide an audience as possible. Designer Chuck Jordan jokingly added that Telltale would ultimately like "to get the games on everything that has a chip in it."

Forget the 360 -- what could be better than getting Sam & Max in a tube of Pringles?Sam & Max PSN pre-orders start March 18; other console versions a 'definite possibility'

Naughty Dog's co-president Evan Wells is definitely interested in having people tuck Nathan Drake -- either halfway or all the way -- into their pockets and visit the world of Uncharted whenever they want to. He feels that there are a lot of stories to tell in that world, and that the PSP would be the perfect platform for it. Just imagine Uncharted: Sully's Adventure where you can wheel and deal in the black market, or Uncharted: Elena on Assignment where you're chasing a dangerous news story. Scoop!

"I think it would be fantastic to see the game (move) onto a handheld system," Wells told us. "Each one of the episodes is sort of like a standalone thing and I think we could do that pretty easily. If we can find a partner to work with, I'd love to do that ... we definitely wouldn't do it ourselves. We're trying to just focus on the PS3 technology and platform right now." He added, laughing, "But, if we can't find a partner, then maybe we're going to have to find a budget ourselves."

Laugh if you will, Wells. You're just toying with our heartstrings is all. We'd love to see Nathan Drake on our PSP. Make it happen. We have Ready at Dawn's phone number if you need it.

Hello PlayStation friends! We’re Telltale, and we make awesome episodic adventure games! You may know of our work – Tales of Monkey Island, Strong Bad, and Wallace & Gromit are a few of our recent titles – but we’ve never launched a game on the illustrious PlayStation 3. Until now, that is! Coming in April, Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse hits the PlayStation Store, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the third season of our landmark episodic series to you, the PlayStation Nation!

4420010897_54d55e9d02.jpg

If you’re not familiar with the rabbit/dog detective duo, the following description ripped unceremoniously from the press release explains our heroes’ new unhinged adventure:

In Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, Max has been bestowed with a set of powerful psychic abilities from an unusual ancient source that he’ll wield against the strongest and strangest foes the Freelance Police have ever faced. Join gaming’s greatest dog and rabbit sleuths as they investigate the source of these powers, with manic Max exercising new and amazing abilities with each episode. Max’s shape shifting, teleportation, mind reading and future sight abilities prove particularly useful as intergalactic simians, eldritch gods, under-dwellers and an arcane scholar ruthlessly hunt down those powers for their own evil ends.

For the first time on the PlayStation Store, we’re teaming up with the fine folks at SCEA to offer Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse for pre-order beginning March 18. Customers who pre-purchase the five-episode comedy saga will pay $29.99 (discounted from $34.99) until the game launches on PSN. Not too bad!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks to everyone who has been reading Kumi’s posts about THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS. I’m here to announce that the wait is finally over, as the game becomes available for download on PlayStation Network today, March 11! Enjoy the ultimate digital card game experience for the PlayStation Portable system everywhere you go.

4424409371_f579d90461.jpg

As mentioned previously, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS features game play based on digital cards that players collect, trade, and use to battle against others. Fans of the PlayStation 3 system hit, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, will enjoy updated card balancing and new strategies, as well as the ability to easily carry your entire digital card collection with you to build the perfect deck on the fly. There are over 300 cards to collect, including Rare and Ultra Rare cards to build more unique battle decks! Plus there’s an all new Story Mode created exclusively for the PSP version, where you’ll unfold an epic journey to save the world from the evil Biolith king, Scion.

Check out the trailer for the game!

There are also two multiplayer modes for head-to-head card battles, Ad-hoc and Infrastructure. Ad-hoc mode lets you face off against another player locally over Wi-Fi, as well as trade cards from your collection. Infrastructure mode lets you battle another player online and compares the top scores among players all around the world!

Infrastructure mode also makes global tournaments possible for THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS. See if you have what it takes to rank among the top players in the world, and observe battle tactics from other players you challenge that may improve your skills for future tournaments. The first tournament will be held today at 7:00 PM PST, and last until March 18 1:00 AM PST. This will be a great warm-up to the many strategies and approaches to card battles. To even the field, Ultra Rare cards will be restricted from the first tournament.

I hope everyone enjoys the game, stay tuned to the blog for more news!

In case you weren't aware, Sony has dropping major megatons this evening at its GDC press conference -- as well as one very small megaton: the PlayStation Move "sub-controller." What you see above is the little brother (if you will) to the main ice cream cone-esque Move wand and the enabler of all things analog stick-controlled.

As per Sony's press release on the subject, the attachment is intended to "expand the game play options that PlayStation Move games can offer" and -- unlike the controller it'll no doubt be compared to -- is said to connect wirelessly via bluetooth to the console. We'll have our hands-on with the PlayStation Move (and the sub-controller) for you later on, but for now you can ogle some high-res pics in our gallery below.

At Sony's special GDC event, Activision, Capcom, WB Games, Namco Bandai, Square Enix, Ubisoft, EA, Disney, Konami, Sega, Crave and Tecmo Koei all confirmed that they'll be supporting the Move in future versions of their games. Although that confirmation came in the form of a slide full of company logos and word from Sony vice-president of marketing and PSN that, "Virtually every third-party publisher" will support the new motion-control device.

Sony's Jack Tretton went on to say that 36 publishers and third-party developers will support it, and according to a press release, "In fiscal year 2010, SCE Worldwide Studios will also release more than 20 games that are either dedicated to or supported with the PlayStation Move platform. While this same group of publishers will probably support Microsoft's Project Natal as well, it's good to know that everyone is onboard. But onboard how? Are they developing Move departments that will get every possible ounce of gameplay out of these things? Or do they mean support like backrubs and cookies?

We aren't sure what titles will be supported just yet, but our team of Joystiqers are waving the Move about as you read this, and we'll have more news very soon.
