17th October 2013 – Whether you are a winter sports enthusiast or don’t know your Skeleton from your Bobsleigh, get ready to go for glory when Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games launches on Wii U on 8th November. Featuring 16 different Olympic Events and 8 Dream Events set in the worlds of Mario and Sonic, join your favourite characters for fun-filled competition in individual and team events, new game modes such as Legends Showdown and the Action & Answer Tour, as well as a new online competition mode, Worldwide VS.

Taking players to Sochi, Russia, host city of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games invites players of all abilities and ages to compete in classic disciplines such as Speed Skating and Alpine Skiing. For all skaters and boarders alike, Figure Skating Pairs, Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom and Snowboard Slopestyle are introduced for the first time in the Mario & Sonic series, with the latter event due to make its debut at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games.

Also for the first time in the series, the Wii U GamePad and Wii Remote Plus controllers are used to control the action, offering the player greater depth of control and more intuitive gameplay. In Figure Skating Pairs, link up with a friend by holding the same Wii Remote Plus controller and perform graceful moves while two of the legendary characters on-screen perform the same routine. Only with perfect timing and by synching up effectively with your partner will you succeed. In an event like Curling, use the Wii U GamePad touch screen to plan your strategy by deciding upon the path of each stone, before releasing the stone onto the rink by flicking the Wii Remote Plus. If you are the player at the end with stones closest to the centre of the circle, victory is yours!

Alongside the Olympic Events, the Dream Events featured in the game allow players to perform dynamic moves not possible in real life. In the adrenaline-fuelled Winter Sports Champion Race, prepare to hop from a pair of skis onto a snowboard, from the inside of a bobsleigh to a pair of skates, in an environment befitting of the diverse blend of winter sports packed into this single event. For an alternative take on a winter sport, Snowball Scrimmage allows you to take part in the ultimate snowball fight, while in Snow Day Street Hockey, you’ll experience the sport of Ice Hockey like you’ve never seen before!

Away from the individual events, the Legends Showdown mode is designed for those who want to experience the deeper Mario & Sonic world. In this mode, 20 characters join forces to compete in an ultimate showdown, and it’s down to you to strategise and select which character will be put forward for each event. Come out on top in each of the five areas and defeat their respective Bosses to aim for the coveted Legend Trophy, earning different rewards as you complete areas. Meanwhile, an all-new party mode set up for multiplayer fun is the Action & Answer Tour, which is presented in the style of a TV quiz program and allows up to four players to compete against each other in minigames based on Olympic events. With the pressure on, you will need a mixture of quick reactions and observational skills to earn points and overcome your opponents – whoever has the most total points at the end wins!

Finally, a new online mode for the Mario & Sonic series, Worldwide VS, enables you to face off against players from across the globe in four events – Freestyle Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Short Track 1000m (Speed Skating), and the aforementioned Dream Event, Winter Sports Champion Race. Whether your opponent is a friend or a fellow competitor on the other side of the world, every time you earn a medal in competition, you’ll in turn earn points for your home nation, so give it your all and help propel your country to the top of the rankings.

Two of gaming’s biggest headliners come face to face once again when Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games launches on Wii U on 8th November. With members of both the Mushroom Kingdom and Sonic Universe competing in 16 Olympic Events and 8 Dream Events, plus a variety of new game modes including Worldwide VS, which character will you choose to play as in the quest for glory?

Coming from a Polygon interview with John Vignocchi, executive producer for the game.

- in the first two weeks, Disney Infinity's players downloaded more than a million toy boxes

"What we wanted to do is show the community that it is our intention that Infinity will continue to grow and live over time with user-generated content. We wanted to start putting content in that channel so people could see what could be created. There is a perspective that you have as a developer that the creations that will come from our team are going to be the most spectacular made and in fact what the community has made has completely blown away our expectations. It's amazing to see the guys who are good at Minecraft building things in Infinity.

Our data shows that the players who are engaging in user-generated content are ten times more likely to continue to play Infinity than those who don't. It's wild when you look at the data and you can see that direct correlation.

In a general sense, my calendar is completely booked for the next three weeks. We're coming up with all of the new content digitally and physically. The primary demographic is kids, but we are completely blown away by the teens and adults that are into the platform and are part of the community."

Hamburg 17th October 2013 – "My Vet Practice 3D – In the Country" presents a whole host of exciting tasks and caring fun for junior vets in this involving care and development game. Deer, lambs, dogs, cats, rabbits, budgies and horses are all visiting the Nintendo 3DS for the first time with a wide range of illnesses and injuries to be diagnosed and treated. And it is down to the player alone to decide which animals they treat and how they invest the money they have earned.

The young vets prove their skills by administering treatments such as applying dressings, giving injections or rubbing in ointments and more. Treatments don’t only take place in the surgery, there are also exciting outside calls where severely ill animals get taken into care. Back at the veterinary practice, in the gradually increasing number of stalls, there are fun-filled play interludes and of course the patients’ daily feed. This is also where players can see how their animals are progressing and find out all sorts of useful facts about dogs, cats and horses in the game’s encyclopaedia. Aside from this, the practice’s revenues can also be invested in new instruments for the treatment room, toys for the animals, or to stock up on supplies. Doing all this requires a trip into the neighbouring town where players will find various shops and traders, together with a bank and an advertising agency. In their free time, the vets can then saddle up their own horse and go out for a ride in the beautiful countryside surrounding their practice.

The impressive 3D view during the animal treatments and a very special photo feature round up the fun. Using the Nintendo 3DS camera, the players can slip into the role of the vet by simply taking a photo of themselves which is then used in the game!

Features:
Involving development and caring fun with cool 3D effects.
Diagnosis and treatment of deer, lambs, dogs, cats, rabbits, budgies and horses.
The young vets prove their skills by administering treatments such as applying dressings and ointments, giving injections, playing with the animals and much more.
3D Photo feature: Players can slip themselves directly into the role of the vet. Simply use the 3D camera to take real 3D pictures of themselves or their friends and use them in the game!
Ride-outs into the forest with your own horse – includes realistic movement controls.
The town offers lots more, such as the shops, an advertising agency and the bank.
Expansion of the player’s own practice with a cattery, aviary, stables, kennels and more.
Collected Nintendo 3DS game coins can be exchanged for in-game currency.
"My Vet Practice 3D – In the Country" is available right now at $29.99 in the Nintendo eShop. To visit the virtual marketplace, players should look in ‘System Settings’ for an ‘Access Point’ in their locality and then use this to make an Internet connection. The game can then be easily downloaded from any location.

The game has been developed by Independent Arts Software, Germany.

We've heard talk about The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds using StreetPass, but that information is officially confirmed by the eShop listing that recently went live. The problem is, the listing doesn't tell us what StreetPass is used for! Who wants to take a stab at this one? Thanks to VGAMER for the heads up!

Coming from XSEED's Facebook page...

“November-ish on the release, very big on the size of the game (but less than 2GB).”

Very interested to see how this one sells. I'm hoping it does enough to warrant localization of some of the other niche titles for 3DS.

Coming from an IGN interview with Eiji Aonuma...

- Link is a blacksmith’s apprentice
- he’s continually late for work
- you're asked to deliver something to Kakariko village

“When we created Skyward Sword, by checking the internet and seeing comments people made about it, it came to mind that maybe the users have started to get bored with Zelda, the traditional Zelda. So we’d like to try and change that up. We thought then that it would be more important to implement a kind of hand-holding system, where users would always know what they were supposed to do. But maybe it’s different – perhaps it’s also fun to just get lost in the game and try to figure out what to do by themselves… I’m really happy that I’ve managed to release a game with new features and a uniqueness to it.”

- opening features Link's dream of princess Zelda being snatched away
- she is kidnapped by some nameless, looming, pig-shaped evil
- the dream leads him through the Hyrule Castle gardens to the bowels of the castle
- an errand quickly leads Link underground and into a dungeon that’s reminiscent of the secret passage between Hyrule Castle and the Sanctuary
- paintings in Hyrule Castle depict the events of Ocarina of Time
- Impa makes an appearance as an old woman
- Dampe the gravekeeper is alive, but may be a descendant
- old man Sahasrahla from Link to the Past returns
- Yuga shows up and begins turning the descendants of the Seven Sages into paintings
- the first dungeon teaches you the way Zelda works
- far less hand-holding

On not constantly giving the player hints

“Miyamoto and I feel the same about this. If players reach their goal easily, it’s not really a very exciting game. A game should be something where users try to solve the puzzles and try to overcome something and get a feeling of achievement from the experience. That’s more important.

But if it’s too difficult, if we don’t actually give enough hints to the users, then at some point they’re not going to be interested in playing the game anymore. So that balance is always important, between difficulty and hand-holding. There was a certain period [at Nintendo] where people thought that games should make it easier to progress and go forward. But Miyamoto and I think that’s not the core part of the fun of a game. Sometimes just getting lost in a game can be really good as well. We’d like the game to be [made] in a way that even for hardcore gamers, hints are sometimes available. What’s important is making that selection of options available.”
