I'm hardly ever gone from the site on a Monday. Well, I'm hardly ever gone from the site ever! If I am gone for a Monday, it means I'm going to WWE Monday Night RAW live, but that's not the case either. I have a gaming event to attend today, so the wonderful NintenDaan has picked a block up on the site today!

He'll be hopping on the site in about an hour to pick up where I've left off. He'll be with you until around 10 PM East Coast time. I should be back by then to get back to my usual rounds. Also, just so you know, this means I'll be covering NintenDaan's usual Wednesday block, so you're stuck with me for the rest of the week!

When I can tell you about the event, I certainly will. I'm not certain on those details yet!

A portion of a Telegraph interview with Activision's Eric Hirshberg...

T: In terms of competition for Skylanders, despite it being an obviously successful idea, it's pretty much largely unrivaled, and as far as I'm aware until this year it was the only game doing anything like it does. Obviously Disney Infinity came along, but it doesn't seem to have halted the Skylanders buzz whatsoever. So what do you think makes Skylanders so popular compared to even, say, massively well known franchises? Obviously for Skylanders you've created all-new fiction for it, but it's been embraced so well. There's something extra special about it that people have really responded to.

E: In terms of competition, I think it was only a matter of time before competitors came into the genre we created, and that's almost inevitable. In terms of our creative process, we really don't focus on our competitors. It's no different than in any other parts of our business, we have strong competition everywhere, and focusing on them doesn't help you make a better game. We try to stay focus on what got us here in the first place, which is breakthrough creativity and really delightful and charming ideas, and a tremendous commitment to the craftsmanship and quality. So those are the things we remain focused on. One of the key elements to Skylanders that I think is actually a huge advantage for us is the fact they're new characters; it's a new story, and a set of characters that are designed for this experience. They haven't been repurposed from anything else, they don't have any other limitations from any other storylines or media. When we sit down to design Skylanders we have one thing in mind, and that's what's going to be the most fun for kids to interact with, and that's how we design their powers, their personality, their storyline. So in every case it's been designed from the ground up to honour this fusion of physical play and digital play. That's how we got to the original idea, that's how we got to the storyline of kids being portal masters, that's how we got to the design of each character, and that's how we got to the idea for this year's game, which is would it be fun to be able to swap parts and make your own versions of the Skylanders? And it's because we start with that clean slate, that blank white canvas, that we're able to just follow our instincts as to what would make the most fun for the game. And y'know, that's exactly where we wanna stay focused.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Director's Cut gives you a ton of extra bang for your buck on top of an already stellar game, and if you haven't experienced it yet, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.

If you haven't yet played Aqua Moto Racing 3D and are curious to try one of these titles, Snow Moto Racing 3D gets the edge, if only because it wasn't released with the various glitches of its (now patched) predecessor. Zordix could genuinely be on to something here; hopefully future entries will provide more personality, smoother visuals and refined controls.

Today I'm going to offer a hopefully mostly coherent recap of what I've been up to and where I'm headed next. There are a few things I want to cover, so I'm just going to word barf on you. Please excuse my rambling nature.

Moving forward, I've gone through a few different phases since the end of the campaign. Initially I was considering the possibility of changing the game's art style; Perhaps even radically changing the design of the main character's suit.

I tried a few different things, some of which were similar to what I had before, some of which were... Really, not sure what I was even thinking.

Coming from an Examiner interview with Ubisoft's Tim Browne...

"The one that we know the community discusses the most is the smoke bomb; it’s always been the smoke bomb. We’ve balanced it and of course [some] people liked how we balanced it, some people didn't like how we balanced it. We have done something new this year, we’re not going into [details], but people will experience smoke bomb in a slightly different way.

We’re really happy with what we've done with it, we know we have made it far more of a skill ability. Rather than just a panic button where you see a guy about to kill you and you hit it, now there’s a certain amount of skill [involved]. I can imagine some people will prefer it the way it was but I think they will appreciate exactly what we've done with it to make it so that it’s far more level. [Now] you have to be maybe a little more preemptive in using it."

Coming from an OXM interview with producer Ben Mattes...

"Alfred is Batman's only ally. He's the only person Batman can call an ally in this game; he doesn't have Gordon, Oracle is not in the picture, Robin has not come into the picture, Catwoman, in whatever limited capacity you would call her an ally, is not yet in the picture, Huntress, Nightwing - whoever else you can imagine in the extended Batman family, none of them are around.

He is alone with Alfred being the only person he can confide in, and Alfred fundamentally does not agree with or understand why he's putting his life at risk on this most challenging of all nights. He's like, 'Stay at home man, let's have a Christmas ham, and tomorrow morning it'll all blow over. Don't do this. And if you are going to do it, don't go fight the cops. This is law, man, these are the protectors of the city. These are civil servants, you can't go treating them with the contempt and aggression that you treat an ordinary thug on the streets.'

And that helps to reinforce how far that relationship has to grow, that Alfred would so directly challenge Batman's motives. Not his actions, but his motives, and the reasons for doing what he does, shows that these two are not where we know they end up, so there's another awesome opportunity for growth with that relationship. You go to the Batcave and you return to the Batcave multiple times in the game and there are various gameplay and narrative reasons to return. One of which is Alfred hangs out in the Batcave, and we have this sort of rich conversation system with him, whereby the more often you go back and talk to him, the more you learn his perspective on the game's events, the various enemies and characters that Batman is encountering, and Alfred's perspective on how Batman is handling the situation. So for people invested in that relationship, there's a whole system of conversations face to face that help reinforce, again, how that grows."

Ubisoft takes a lot of really big swings with Just Dance 2014 — some, like Autodance and Just Dance TV, hit it out of the park, whereas others, like competing online and a rejiggered Just Sweat mode, are something of a whiff as they can feel lonely and undercooked. Still, if you want to boogie down in your living room, Just Dance 2014 has more than enough moves to keep that slide of yours electric.
