Coming from a Polygon interview with Shigeru Miyamoto, Koizumi and Motokura...

On the cat suit and making a Mario for everyone

"Everybody loves cats. We are proud of the Mario cat suit. The reason that we decided to incorporate the cat transformation is not just that it is cute, but when you incorporate 2D and 3D you need a certain element of freedom and we felt that the cat item could pull these elements together. People think about the classic gameplay of Mario being about timing and jumping on things. But we started to think about it in slightly different way, that allows you to climb up walls.

We've taken the elements from 2D Mario games, where you understand what the goal is and there is a certain simplicity there and put that together with the ability to explore in a 3D world." - Miyamoto

"Every player is trying to reach a goal. We are looking for a sense of working together to reach that goal. People want to see their own results and they may get a little bit competitive as a result, but we are looking to facilitate a lot of different styles of gameplay whether it's competitive or not." - Motokura

On Peach and Toad being playable

"It has been a really long time since Peach was playable in a Mario game, and we're really happy to have her back here. Toad is good for people who like speed-runs." - Miyamoto

On storylines

"Because this game is for a broad audience we try not to focus too much on individual storylines, but I am happy to say that because Peach is part of the adventure she has slightly different role. She is much more involved and active that she has been in the past, perhaps." - Motokura

On the charm of Mario

"The charm of a 3D Mario world comes from the ability to live freely and do all the fun actions. Some people find those games too hard, they have difficulty with the orientation of themselves. And on the other side, while [2D] sideways strollers are fun, some of people have had enough of that which is why we are offering something that combines the best of the two." - Miyamoto

A portion of a GamesRadar interview with Shigeru Miyamoto...

GamesRadar: Because Super Mario 3D World is your first HD game, did you ever consider recreating any classic 3D stages in the game. Or did it perhaps get you interested in HD remakes of older games like Super Mario Sunshine, or the Super Mario Galaxy games?

Mr. Miyamoto: As for remaking previous games in HD, that's certainly possible, but currently most of our devs are working on new stuff, and we like to have them working on new stuff. HD remakes might, however, be a good project for a development partner of ours, so that's something I hope we have the opportunity to introduce in the future.

But the main thing that's always going to be on our minds are, "What new elements of gameplay can we use with the GamePad as applied to some of these older games?" We want to find some way to bring a new experience to this than simply update the visuals and leave it at that.

Check out more new screens in our Flickr set

It's 7:40 PM on a Monday night and I'm a million floors up in a New York City office building. At this time on any other Monday I'd be sitting with my laptop, working on GoNintendo while I wait to watch WWE Monday Night RAW. For something to pull me away from both GoNintendo AND WWE, you know it has to be important. Indeed the reason is important, which is why I'm trying not to pass out while hanging around a small group of game journalism folk. In just a few minutes, I'm going to be ushered into a conference room to have a video conference with Shigeru Miyamoto and other principle devs on Super Mario 3D World. This is without a doubt, the most important and nerve-racking thing I've ever had the chance to do for GoNintendo.

After a slight delay, the conference door swings open and we take our place at a table. There are microphones everywhere and a giant camera pointed right at us. The front of the room features two flat-screen TVs. One shares a mirror image of the conference room I'm in, while the other showcases a desk with the Nintendo logo behind it. On that desk sit plush dolls of Mario and friends, all decked out in cat suits. Soon, those characters will be joined by Shigeru Miyamoto, Kenta Motokura and Yoshiaki Koizumi. We hear muffled Japanese being spoken for a bit, then the translator says that Miyamoto feels it's a bit strange for us to be sitting at a table while we stare at their empty video feed. Miyamoto apologizes and the staff shuffles in. Yes, we are thousands of miles apart from each other, but that doesn't matter. It still feels like I'm sitting face-to-face with some of Nintendo's biggest devs...and for some reason they want to hear my questions.

The following info and commentary comes from Jean-Sébastien Décant, lead designer...

On JRPG-style naval battles

"We also have the Kenway’s Fleet mini game where you can send ships captured in the open world on trading missions around the globe. It also features a JRPG style naval battles mini game to secure trading routes and avoid losing ships to other pirates. The Kenway’s Fleet mini game is part of the companion game offer, meaning that you will be able to access it from the captain’s cabin on the player’s ship in the main game but also from a smartphone or a tablet."

The following info comes from game designer Tim Browne...

On multiplayer naval battles being considered

"There's a couple of things [keeping us from doing this]. It took the Shanghai studio three years for AC: III just to do the [campaign's] water physics, which gives you an idea of how much [effort] it took the team to do. To then replicate that seven more times is currently a technical impossibility. But we did consider it from one point of view...lets look at the DNA of Assassin's Creed multiplayer. Is it about being the captain of a ship? No, it's not. It's about being a badass assassin, being the best assassin out there."

Coming from a MCVUK interview...

“Wii imports to Europe have been discontinued. However, there are still a variety of options for consumers to enjoy Wii games and the Wii gameplay experience. Wii U, which is Nintendo's latest home console, is backwards compatible with nearly all existing Wii games and accessories, so you can enjoy a vast library of disc-based and downloadable Wii games and Wii gameplay experiences when you switch to Wii Mode on Wii U. Wii Mini is also now available across Europe offering Wii gameplay experiences at a great value. Wii Mini puts the focus squarely on games with over 1200 existing disc-based Wii titles to choose from.” - Nintendo UK rep

A portion of a WorldsFactory interview with Qubic's Mikael Bourget...

WF: Thus far, the series has only been on Nintendo handhelds, is there a particular reason for developing for these systems instead of other platforms, like PC or home consoles? Are you interested in developing for next generation consoles like PlayStation 4, Xbox One and WiiU?

MB: We kept developing for Nintendo systems after having successfully developed for Nintendo DSi. For three main reasons: our team got experience in this, we created a good relationship with Nintendo and we like Nintendo consoles and the digital distribution platforms.

But we are interested in other platforms too, and we created games for iOS. We are also official developers for Playstation Vita. But we haven’t released anything on it yet, neither did we on PC. However regarding home console, we made 2 games for Wii: Gnomz and 2 Fast 4 Gnomz.

Now it’s hard to talk about the next generation (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) because we still need to really witness what will happen. Now there is a lot of talking but it’s too early to give opinions. We are of course very impatient to discover these systems and we believe that the policy towards indie developers will be beneficial for both sides. We don’t know yet if we will work on them but it is in the realm of the possible.
Regarding Wii U, we are already authorized developers for it. We have the devkits and we currently prepare our own game engine C-Way to feature the proper technology to handle development on Wii U.

We do hope that we could release a game on Nintendo Wii U in the next 12 months.

4cr: With a goal of $144,000, you’re aiming to first release this on PC and Mac. Since you’re developing the game on Unity, have you considered porting the game to consoles (Wii U, PS4, XBO)?

NN: Currently, with our initial goal, we are just aiming towards releasing Raindrop on PC, MacOS, and Linux systems. We would like to port Raindrop to a range of consoles, but that requires a large amount of time, research, integration, testing and funds, which we don’t have at the moment.

The following information was found through EB Games Australia...

- Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures' Wii U listing has disappeared
- Young Justice Legacy's Wii U listing has disappeared
- Barbie Dreamhouse Party's Wii U listing has disappeared
- Lego Movie Videogame doesn't include a Wii U listing

As you can see, both Namco Bandai and Warner Bros. Wii U titles seem to be disappearing left and right in Australia. Now these listing disappearances don't mean the game is definitely not hitting Australia. Without comment from either publisher yet, there's certainly some cause for concern.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies is aggressively oddball, but it's also sharply written and cleverly constructed. It trades the typical staid approach to murder mysteries and puts a pair of magic panties on its head (yes, there are magic panties), spinning a clever mystery that will please your crime-solving brain.

Coming from a Eurogamer interview with senior producer Ben Mattes...

"Obviously resistance and reluctance exists at every level. There were fans who said: 'They're not Rocksteady, they can't make an Arkham game.' And there were concerns within the organisation that we weren't going to be able to deliver the special sauce of a Rocksteady game.

And there were concerns within our team, like - 'Maybe we've bitten off more than we can chew? Are we sure we're able to dance with these guys? Do we deserve to be in this same hallowed ground?' - but we wouldn't have continued through the years if we didn't feel we had a shot. I'm really proud of what we've done.

Y'know: 'It's not Rocksteady. It's a prequel. It's not the original voice actors. Forget it. Ignore. Never paying attention to it.' But I think every subsequent piece of code we've shown has won over more and more of the public, to the point where it now stands out as an exception if we see someone who's still towing that line of: 'It's not Rocksteady, it's not going to be good.' There's only, like, one in a 1000 it seems now still playing that card.

You don't want to be the guys who messed up and ran into the ground one of the absolute, top-rated franchises of all time. You don't want that at the top of your CV. 'Yeah, I'm the guy who turned a 96 into a 60, that's my claim to fame.' So I think there was an extra desire to create something really great as we were fully aware of the opportunity that we had.

Usually you put on a happy face and say the right things because that's where you are. But secretly you're thinking, 'God, if only they'd given us six more months.' But, honestly, this game we've created is the game we set out to create. It is exactly the story we wanted to tell with exactly the areas of focus we aimed to do.

And resistance... it was probably more hesitation than resistance. It was never: 'Over my dead body are you guys making an Arkham game!' It was always hedging bets, cautiously optimistic, a healthy amount of hesitation. And that's the right attitude. I think everyone ought to have that attitude. If we'd come in saying: 'Rock-who? Eff those guys man, we'll show you how it's done,' we wouldn't have gotten here."

Hamburg, 24th October 2013 – In "My Little Baby 3D" players find themselves lovingly caring for their sweet little treasure in ultra cute 3D graphics. After selecting the parents, just as in real life, chance then decides the look and sex of the child. And then when the time comes and the baby arrives in the home, that’s when the varied and sometimes hectic parenting life begins.

The little sweetie laughs joyfully at the players and they have to do everything to make sure that the child wants for nothing and that they thrive and grow bigger. Doing all this means there are plenty of jobs to do, giving baby regular baths, feeds, changing diapers, playing with them or going shopping. Following all this activity there is of course no small need for a yummy bottle feed. Using the Nintendo 3DS system’smotion control, which is used in various mini-games, this is no problem at all: The console is tilted to one side like a bottle until the bottle is drunk dry and a beaming smile can be seen right across the little darling’s face.
Once rocked gently to sleep, peace can return at last – but then soon enough, baby is back from beddy-byes and a whole range of amusements have to be found to keep them occupied. Then it really gets exciting when the little terror becomes a toddler and slowly but surely gets to stand on their own two feet.
Players can also use the Augmented Reality feature to even have their family addition in their own hands. Simply place the AR card on the surface of the hand or any other flat surface and the little cherub will appear on the Nintendo 3DS screen contentedly lolling about, waiting for the player to entertain them.
All of this, plus a huge selection of toys, clothing and other items will make your baby the happiest bundle of joy in the world!

Features:
Super-cute 3D graphics with over 100 true-to-life animations
Using the Augmented reality support, baby can be taken to play on the player’s hand
The awesome Nintendo 3DS system’s motion control acts in rocking baby to sleep, feeding and plenty more
The microphone can be used to teach baby their first few words
Bathing, feeding, diaper changing, playing in the garden – things are never boring with a child to care for
Huge selection of toys, clothing and lots more
Use the camera function to take pictures of your little treasure

"My Little baby 3D" for Nintendo 3DS is available right now at $29.99 in the Nintendo eShop.

The game has been developed by Raylight, Italy.
