Coming from a Famitsu interview with creator of the Monster Hunter series, Kaname Fujioka.

"SF2 was this game with really big and expressive characters, and it impressed in me everything that made games really cool. I played a lot of non-Capcom games too, but I'd say Mega Man 2 on the NES was my favorite. Capcom had this image back then for making really tough, difficult games, but they weren't just difficult — if you thought up the right strategies, they were balanced to be beatable, and that attracted me as a kid. That, plus the big SF2 boom, made me choose Capcom as my workplace.

Really, I just sort of naturally took up that role somewhere along the line. I had an interest in making games, but personally I had more of a passion for making characters, drawing art and animations and such, and I devoted myself to that. Of course, games are driven by programming, so even if you devote yourself to characters, if they don't match with the game, then they're going to be cut. I'd have animation frames I worked hard on get cut out of games as part of the fine-tuning process. So I started complaining about this to the designers and such, and eventually my boss at the time said 'Well, why don't you just try being a director, then?' And that was it.

Nobody ever said it to my face, but at the time, I was convinced that everyone was thinking 'Is this guy capable of anything?'. The people I had been working with before understood me pretty well, for the others, especially the programmers that I hadn't interacted with much before, I think the impression I gave was this graphic guy who did nothing but whine to other people. So I really clashed a lot with the programmers during the first MH.

You aren't just checking other people's work. You're a game-maker, although you aren't the main creative guy, either. Basically, you're looking over things to make sure you aren't going too far away from the game's concept. I try not to directly put my hand into too much. With Monster Hunter 4, for example, I wanted to boost the story aspect of the game. Everyone in the staff has their own work they've inherited from the last game, and I didn't want to mess with that — but if I wrote the scenario myself, I'd run out of time to direct the rest of the team. So I invited some writers and held discussions as we whittled down the concept. Some people can direct and write at once, but I think these people had a very different background from me. For me, being able to set up distinct boundaries is how I like to direct.

To be honest, I don't feel the current Japanese game market has a lot of energy to it, and I want to get that energy back. I think the only way to do that is to keep making fun games and keep energizing and exciting the gamers. Lately I've been running into overseas gamers at MH4 events and stuff, people with these MH t-shirts who go all the way to Japan for these things. I love seeing that, and I wonder if we can expand on that. It's hard enough to launch a game in Japan alone, but for games like Pokemon that become worldwide hits, that energizes Japanese games across the board. I think there are qualities to Japanese games that only Japanese people can come up with, and I think it'd be great if we could expand on how we bring those strengths to the international arena."

A portion of a NWR review...

It’s still better than Justice for All and Apollo Justice, but this difficulty adjustment (among other things) keeps Dual Destinies from even touching the legendary experiences that are the first and third games in this impressive franchise.

Boys and girls of all ages giggle with delight,

For Rune Factory 4 promises to fright!

There are rumors and legends within Selphia galore,

Of ghouls and ghosts in the forests and more.

The cries from the Water Ruins frighten plenty,

But the hero must press on by royal order of Venti!

Bring Forte to a mansion for an extra scare,

But should you go alone, you’d best be prepared.

Entering fall Festival with pumpkins could fill you with dread,

But crafting them into headgear might be spookier instead.

For those brave enough to adventure without care,

Come see more of Norad... if you should dare!

During the 6 months, the feature title "Monster Hunter 4" is the highest ever for any third-party Nintendo 3DS title in Japan by becoming a big hit with shipment of 2.8 million units* in the Digital Contents business. In addition, "Resident Evil Revelations" and "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies" also basically achieved projected sales.

*3 million units as of October 15, 2013

In the Amusement Equipments business, "Devil May Cry 4", which was released in September, realized better-than-expected sales, serving to drive sales expansion and support earnings.

As a result, sales and income for this 6 months period broke the record at all levels for the first half, since the announcement of consolidated mid-term financial results started in the fiscal year ended March 31, 2001.

The forecast for the consolidated business results for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2014 remains the same as what was projected at the financial results announcement on May 8, 2013.

Last time we saw a 2013/2014 Wii U software trailer, it featured Bayonetta 2. As we've already posted, there's another 2013-2014 Wii U exclusives trailer out from Nintendo. The difference is, this trailer has yanked Bayonetta 2. There's no mention of the title this time around. Should we start to get nervous about release date on this one?

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo Video is ready to launch a fresh lineup of great new shows for the fall. The free video application for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems will debut new short-form videos starting Nov. 1 that will continue into 2014. Five new series have been slated, including two featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and Pikmin 3.

Owners who have downloaded the Nintendo Video application from the Nintendo eShop will automatically receive the new shows on their device, including:

The Legend of Zelda: The Misadventures of Link: This original series of comedic shorts shows Link, the series’ star, in a new and hysterical light. His surroundings will be familiar to fans of the series, since the shorts are based on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD game for the Wii U console.
Pikmin Nature Documentaries: These “nature documentaries” explore the wonderful world of the tiny Pikmin. The animations, highlighted by dramatic voiceover work, are a tongue-in-cheek take on safari nature shows.
Bravest Warriors: The latest hit show created by Pendleton Ward, the mind behind Adventure Time, follows four teenage heroes-for-hire as they warp through galaxies to save adorable aliens and their worlds using the power of their emotions. The series is produced by Frederator Studios and launched on the Cartoon Hangover channel on YouTube. New episodes of Bravest Warriors will appear every Friday on Nintendo Video.
Wildheart Riukiu: This new series of 3D shorts comes from the creator of Meat or Die, which has already amassed more than 5 million views on Nintendo Video. Wildheart Riukiu incorporates charming 16-bit graphics with some not-so-charming, but hilarious, characters. Think ninja puppets.
Bee and PuppyCat: A Cartoon Hangover Shorts fan favorite, this two-part series by Natasha Allegri follows Bee, an out-of-work 20-something who has a life-changing collision with a mysterious creature she names PuppyCat.
“This latest set of great new shows for Nintendo Video gives fans a unique way to enjoy two of their favorite Nintendo franchises, in addition to hand-picked series from some of the most imaginative and successful creators in the world of animation,” said Tony Elison, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Business Development.

Fred Siebert, founder and executive producer of Frederator Studios, producer of the new Bravest Warriors series, said, “Cartoon Hangover is honored to be part of Nintendo’s entry into the new golden age of TV innovation.”

Since launching in July 2011, Nintendo Video has delivered a variety of premiere and exclusive videos automatically to Nintendo 3DS owners. The Nintendo Video application is available to download for free from the Nintendo eShop.

A portion of a PrimaGames interview with Wayne Brady...

PG: What’s a favorite Nintendo memory?

WB: Favorite Nintendo memory of all time is when I beat Super Mario Bros. by myself. There was no one else in the room and you have to remember this was in 1989. It was my senior year in high school. Our technology wasn’t as developed, so I took a Polaroid of the screen to prove to everyone at school that I beat it. It just shows where I was at the time, where I took a picture of my screen and shoved it into every senior’s face when I beat Super Mario Bros., and they were like, “Good job, Wayne.”
