Coming from an IGN interview with producer Yoshiaki Koizumi and director Kenta Motokura...

On the cat suit

Kenta Motokura: When we started out, we were thinking about different kinds of actions that Mario could do. Talking to the designers, some of the things that came up were a Mario that could walk on four legs, or on his hands and feet, and also a Mario that could climb walls. If you climbed walls, that meant you could go to places that you normally can’t. Also, if you’re not such a great player, you might be able to save yourself when you fall off a wall. Thinking about those different actions, running around on all fours and climbing walls, it turned out that a cat was a perfect animal that everybody knows.

On power-up creation

Motokura: Going off of our monitor tests, we wanted to see what beginners thought was difficult about the game, and also what was fun about the game. We learned from those tests is that if you were a beginning player, when you come to a cliff, you might stop, think about jumping, then jump and maybe not make it and drop. But what if we added this element of sticking to the wall so you could prevent yourself from dropping down? We also thought about some new ways that classic power-ups could be integrated into this game. That’s why we have the clear pipes where you can throw fireballs in them and see them going down there. Also, another new experience is the double cherry, which allows you to create two or three characters who… If you combine that with the fire power-up, you’ll have a number of characters throwing fireballs at the same time. Those are totally new experiences using classic power-ups.

On the double cherry

Motokura: It’s not as if we tried to make gameplay more difficult with that power-up, but it’s something that you can use in single-player and also in multiplayer. Sometimes it goes well for the player and sometimes it doesn’t. [laughs] I guess what you could say is that something unexpected is more likely to occur when you use that power-up. It helps to replicate some situations where you need to have multiple players, to activate an event for example. It’s also a good stand-in when you’re playing single-player and trying to access a multiplayer event.

On the free-roaming map

Motokura: We think a very important element of this game is that you can move about freely on the world map. One of the reasons for that is that normally, in a Mario game, you would have the difficulty level increase from easy to more difficult, but because of the way this world map is made, there’s more freedom in where we locate the more difficult levels. I can’t tell you too much about it, but there are some hidden elements included on the world map, where it looks like you wouldn’t be able to access them, but you might be able to somehow. Also, there’s a Miiverse element to the world map, where you can actually see comments that people have posted on Miiverse on the world map itself. You’ll see those comments as you walk around the world map. In just one world, the world map, you can have all kinds of different experiences.

In order to clear a certain course and open up another course, you might have to go through the stages in a certain sequence. But we want to emphasize some of the other elements that are free-form within the world maps.

On lack of Yoshi

Motokura: We did think about including Yoshi, but I guess you could say that in this game there are certain abilities that are similar to what Yoshi could do. For example, there’s a piranha flower that you can carry and attack enemies with. Also, Peach has her floating jump. So we did include those elements in the game. We also like to bring up this other dinosaur character that’s called Plessie, that all four characters can ride at the same time to go through the stage. I love Yoshi as much as anybody else, but I also love this new character. The thing that you can experience with Plessie that’s totally new is that you can ride one animal, basically, using four different characters at the same time. That’s a new experience.

On out of the box thinking

Yoshiaki Koizumi: You brought up Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. I wanted to ask a question. It seemed to me that people were like, “What’s this?” Is that what you thought? Were you just totally flabbergasted by the concept behind that game?

IGN: I was very surprised. I remember seeing it for the first time and saying, “Wow, that’s very different.” But when I played it, I instantly fell in love with the idea.

Koizumi: Thank you very much. It was originally a music game. I thought of those controls when I saw the manner in which you had to hit the controller in order to make the beat [and] make the music. The reason why I came to the conclusions I did was, it wasn’t from watching the television monitor. It was watching the expressions on people’s faces as they played, or when they used those controls. I thought of the original Famicom, when I saw one person say, “Hey, give me the controller so I can play.” When I told my staff all about this, I basically expressed how I was putting people’s reactions to the gameplay over the functionality of the game. This is kind of a special case, but it goes to show how we take experiences with our own families at home, or in places other than work, and bring those experiences back to our work. We think that the one thing that people can relate to the most is family, or interactions with their own families. That’s very important.

On considering support for 3D TVs with Super Mario 3D World

Koizumi: Of course, we did all kinds of research about different ways that the game could be created. We did look into a stereoscopic aspect for the game, but when I personally thought about four players sitting there with 3D glasses all right next to each other, it just seemed a little funny to me. [laughs] So we wouldn’t necessarily want to do that.

Oxygene Media will publish the first game based on Luv Me Buddies brand in Europe. The developer Reward Studios is working for the release on Wii U later this year. The product will be a collection of Luv Me Buddies-inspired minigames that is designed for a target age relatively low. The game mechanics will require to the user an easy approach based on the use of the GamePad, but for additional content that will become available in the future the user could be use the Wii Remote to perform a particular minigames in the game.

Each challenge will be focused in a particular context or with a main character, and will require different types of approach in accordance with the objective that the user must reach . In some cases you will be required to use spirit of observation and quick reflexes to identify specific characters or objects that will be presented on the screen. Other times the task will require, besides a good deal of concentration, a large memory usage, which may become necessary to assemble the objects or solve puzzles that will be proposed. There will be also a lot of dynamic challenges that will make the product varied and hectic. Luv Me Buddies: Wonderland represents a gaming sample that expresses itself through enjoyment. The product is aimed at those who do not seek a gaming revolution, but merely a videogame whose validity is achieved through an immediate and progressively more challenging gameplay, which can involve the player for a quick game or for few hours of fun.

Luv Me Buddies: Wonderland is currently scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of this year in Europe and for the first quarter of 2014 in America and Japan.

"I know Doug, like him a lot, but he's wrong. Reviews matter at the margin, and certainly can help or hurt sales by 10 percent. In Call of Duty's case, 10 percent is 2 million units. I'm not sure that a 76 average Metacritic score is enough to hurt sales by that much, but it doesn't help." - Michael Pachter
"Strong franchises like Call of Duty: Ghosts tend to benefit from a halo effect (no pun intended), but no game is 'review proof.' A franchise's increasingly stronger past performance does not guarantee that sales records will continue to be broken. Reviews are important and affect sales performance -- titles with higher review scores typically sell more units. Positive pre-release coverage enhances pre-sale transactions as well as sales at and around launch. Research backs up all of these assumptions. Gamers and publishers are very aware of review scores and metacritic scores are used as indications of quality and potential popularity." - independent analyst Billy Pidgeon

Hamburg, 07th November 2013 – Any young animal lover can now take on running their own pet hotel exclusively for frisky baby pets. Hours of fun on the Nintendo 3DS are guaranteed when puppies, foals, kittens, cute little guinea pigs, rabbits and birds are all handed over by their owners into the player’s care. This means generous enclosures for the animals, any number of treats and an exclusive care programme. Because it’s important to know the guests’ individual needs and to make sure that they don’t want for anything. And all this involves plenty of fun in mini-games such as fetch, teaching tricks and even singing games with the birds, using the Nintendo 3DS microphone.

Players take care of all of their cute guests’ needs, while developing and enlarging their animal hotel and doing all the necessary shopping in the nearby town. This is how the animals are provided with food, medicines and all kinds of toys. There are also luxury goods and equipment items to be bought. The young hoteliers are right in the thick of it when it comes to knowing the needs of their playful guests.

The plentiful missions and side missions let them show what they are made of, such as using the cleverly adapted movement control: So to mix food the Nintendo 3DS quickly becomes a feeding trough and has to be deftly rocked from left to right to create the correct blend. In a similar way the game character is steered through the forest during walkies while at the same time collecting stars en route to earn a reward at the end. Training the foals on a lunge line has a realistic feel. Just like a real lunge line, the screen always has to be held at the height of the foal which, especially with the faster paced exercises, is a particular challenge for the player. And so in a charming 3D world the world’s greatest animal hotel for frisky baby pets gradually comes into being.

Features:
A wonderful 3D world invites exploration
Care for and pamper birds, guinea pigs, rabbits, kittens, puppies and foals
Entertaining mini-games such as fetch, teaching tricks, singing games using the Nintendo 3DS microphone and more
Cool movement control: Mix food or go walkies by tilting the Nintendo 3DS and train foals on a lunge line by keeping the screen up at the height of the foal
Collect Nintendo 3DS Play Coins to raise the value of the animals
StreetPass™: Meeting other players in the vicinity raises the value of the animals
"My Baby Pet Hotel 3D" is available right now at $29.99 in the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo 3DS, the virtual destination for all digital content.
The game has been developed by Independent Arts Software, Germany.

We expect multiple new releases across our major franchises, including the first Diablo III expansion, Reaper of Souls, along with the PS4 version of Diablo III and significant and exciting new content for World of Warcraft. Coming from a Reddit AMA with Ubisoft writer writer Darby McDevitt. Mr. McDevitt was asked how likely it was that Ubisoft would tell more of Connor's story from Assassin's Creed III. He quickly responded with "Not very. We want Tumblr to pick up where we left off." Later on, he egave more of a complete answer.

Firstly, though my answer was terse, I am not being snide when I say I am eager to see how fans continue our characters' stories in other outlets and mediums. Tumblr and live journal and dozens of other sites provide perfect outlets for AC fans to continue the stories of their favorite characters. I absolutely love this process. I love the fact that people have discovered resonant topics and characters in our universe. I love the fact that fans can expand or elaborate on points they feel have not been well addressed. This should happen as often as possible. Take what we begin and make it your own. Remix and remake. This leads to wonderful things.

That being said, it would be wrong to imagine that anyone is "brushing Connor off" ... we planned the Edward, Haytham, Connor saga more than 2 years ago, long before any of you had heard Connor's name or learned his backstory. We had no idea how he (or Haytham) would be received, but we had our own long story to tell, and we embraced it. And it was our hope that — taken together — this saga would represent the story of a family... a migration, a mixing of cultures, and a dashing of ideals... Connor played his part, Haytham played his, and now Edward has had his say too. The fact that Connor's story feels incomplete to you is unfortunate (and likely made worse by the cut dialog people found), but this only means there is more room for your imaginations to take over.

Don't rely on us to deliver new content... make your own stories. Finally, there is ALWAYS room for interesting things to happen in the AC universe. We are open to many ideas. But it's also important to realize that we make critical decisions YEARS before they come to fruition... which means we cannot usually respond immediately to fan reactions. This is why petitions aren't terribly useful... we're on a completely different schedule. But we are eager to see what you do with our characters... the stories you tell, the places you go. That's why we do this. Thanks for your reply, Zoe.
