I would say it’s a beautiful, slow-paced experience, very ambient. You just get to explore, and it’s a game that makes you think, that would be the pitch. Plus it’s about pulling off really crazy, cool moves. It’s both fast-paced and slow-paced at the same time, in a weird way, so you move around quickly and can get very skilled, but it also makes you stop to just look at stuff. - Nifflas

Coming from a Redbull interview with Alex Preston...

On touch screen use

"We want the experience to be the same across all platforms. We may try a few interesting bits with the Wii U touch or Vita touch [pad on the back of the handheld], but nothing that breaks the mold for the other games. For now we're going to have to play with the hardware a bit to see what we can or want to implement."

On Mode 7

- there may be a 'fun vehicle section' possibly using a 'Mode 7' effect

On the SNES demake that was part of the Kickstarter

"This was serious - we all have a deep love for the platform, and that type of money would allow us to hire someone full time to 'down-port' the game," he explains. "Of course, it would be a hefty task and there would be significant differences - fewer enemies, effects and animation frames due to memory limitations - though I think we could adjust and make something incredibly special with 'Super Hyper Light Drifter' regardless. It's a dream goal to put it up on my favorite console of all, and I hope to accomplish that dream sooner than later. Maybe once we release the game we will have the opportunity to accomplish this."

We've heard from numerous people emailing in about a little oddity at some Target locations. Apparently the computer system at Target has both Super Mario 3D World/The Legend of Zelda: ALBW street-dated for today. That means you can go to a Target location and ask them for either game. They might have to go in the back to get it, but they shouldn't have any trouble ringing it up. Give it a shot and let us know if it works out!

Coming from Sakurai's regular feature in Famitsu...

"I've lived within walking distance of the development studio ever since development on the new Smash Bros. began. If I'm going to make something like a Smash Bros., then I have to take every aspect of it seriously. Losing time in the commute or being beholden to whenever the last train of the night departs is out of the question. So I moved here temporarily until development is complete.

My work generally involves supervision. The team knows what I want in the game, so I check on what everyone's producing and make sure it aligns with the game. 'Supervision' could make it sound like all I'm doing is looking at things all day, but that's not the case. The team's work is all built up according to what I told them, so it's ultimately my job to make adjustments and finalize it all. So not only am I looking at all the graphics, sound, motions, characters, stages, game modes, and UI interfaces, but I have to check up on the spec documents being used to build all of these.

When I'm discussing supervision work with people, sometimes upwards of 20 staffers at once, there's often a video camera going around to record what I said and told them to do. It's honestly not the funnest thing, because people act more restrained in front of a camera and nobody likes to hear a recording of their own voice, but with everything accurately recorded, you can bring up exactly what was said at any time without having to rely on vague notes.

At this point, the new Smash Bros. is fun, more so than Melee or Brawl. However, we have to work to keep things dynamic and not over-fine-tune the balance. If we aim for complete fairness, there won't be any personality to it. By the way, I almost always win in these battles. I'm no wimp at this by now, apparently.

In all previous Smash Bros. games, I've entered in all the data for fighter skills and hitboxes by myself, and it's quite nearly that way with this game too. I've thought about leaving this work to others and I've actually tried it once or twice, but it hasn't worked out. I don't want to release an incomplete game, and I want everything to be as successful as possible, but it results in a massive amount of work for me. It's a big problem, but there are reasons for doing it this way.

Characters' in-game balance and features are something that I'm thinking about from the start while coming up with motions. If I left that to someone else midway, that'd make things more difficult. It's faster and more accurate to just input the numbers myself than try to explain it in words to somebody.

One problem with my work is that there's just so much supervision to do. I may get dozens of requests in a day, between meetings, group checks and other events. Just taking care of them all brings me to 10 p.m. at night. I try to get all the requests squared away on the same day, but sometimes it waits until the next day, since some department heads may no longer be in the office once we get to 7 p.m. or so. It gets even harder if I'm out of the office. This work keeps me busy until late nights as it is; continually moving things later on is like tying the noose around my neck."

GRAPEVINE, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GameStop Corp. (NYSE: GME), the world’s largest multichannel video game retailer, today reported sales and earnings for the third quarter ended Nov. 2, 2013.

Third Quarter Results

Total global sales for the third quarter of 2013 were $2.11 billion compared to $1.77 billion in the prior year quarter, an increase of 18.8%. Consolidated comparable store sales rose 20.5%, significantly above the forecasted range.

During the quarter, sales of new software increased by 43.1%, driven by the strong performance of recently released new titles, such as Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V. New hardware sales grew 15.3%, led by strong sell-thru of Nintendo 2DS and 3DS. Each of these categories outperformed the overall market, leading to 675 basis points of market share gain during the quarter. Pre-owned sales decreased 2.0%. Our new businesses, mobile and digital, had sales and receipts growth of 14.4% to $49.9 million and 8.6% to $137.9 million, respectively.

GameStop’s net earnings for the third quarter were $68.6 million, a 45.3% increase compared to adjusted net income of $47.2 million in the prior year quarter. Last year’s reconciliation of GAAP net loss to non-GAAP, or adjusted, net income is included with this release (Schedule III). Diluted earnings per share were $0.58, exceeding the high end of the company’s guidance by $0.03, resulting in a 52.6% increase compared to adjusted diluted earnings per share of $0.38 in the prior year quarter.

“Our strong third quarter sales results give us great momentum as we enter the new console cycle,” stated Paul Raines, chief executive officer. “Consumer appetite for the new consoles is very strong judging by last week’s successful PS4 launch and the excitement for tonight’s Xbox One launch event. Globally, we are executing our unique playbook to maximize our position of strength.”

Coming from analyst firm DFC Intelligence...

"We are once again lowering our outlook for the Wii U. Right now it is looking to do about what the GameCube did during its lifespan which is mainly be another system for Nintendo first party product.

I think Nintendo is carving out a different audience. I think that being said it is the right strategy. The audience they are going after is not the ones that Sony and Microsoft are going after. Right now they need to go after Nintendo fans first. They should have done that last year but better late than never. So in answer to your question it is the right approach but really Nintendo now is just trying to do as well as the GameCube so they have a base to sell first party software."

The following comes from independent analyst Billy Pidgeon

"I think it's smart for Nintendo to launch three titles featuring major franchises on the same day. Yes, Xbox One also launches on November 22nd, but major game retail events can energize consumers to buy more games and hardware. There's an audience waiting for these Nintendo titles, and Mario and Zelda have system-selling potential. It's a good move to get these games out before the holiday season kicks in on Black Friday, a tactic that Sony and Microsoft are employing for their eight generation console launches. Nintendo is moving 3DS hardware, and 2DS adds value priced hardware to Nintendo's handheld mix. Wii U hardware sales need a boost, and Super Mario 3D World will help. Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. releases in 2014 will also help, as will more value added bundles and hardware price cuts.

For the bottom line, console launches drive hardware, software and accessories purchases not only for the new hardware but for older hardware as well. Value added bundling, price cuts and highly anticipated new software for older hardware can boost sales of older systems during a fourth quarter retail period with one or more new console launches. Xbox 360 made big gains in hardware and software in 2006 as Wii and PS3 launched, and PS2 made hardware gains and maintained relatively high attach rates in 2005-2006, particularly during Q4 when Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 launches were underway."
