Or maybe that's Jaden Smith. It's hard to tell. Either way, this is the official endless runner of this summer's Smith-Pinkett-Shyamalan blockbuster, After Earth. For once a movie-based endless-runner makes sense. Father and son crash land on a planet hostile to humans and must struggle to survive while being chased by monkeys and the hostile aliens they were transporting, now free to hunt the pair down for payback. Oh, and the planet is Earth. Twist!

Bread is all well and good, but you know what's better than bread? Toasted bread. Oh yeah, buddy. And what's even better than toasted bread? Toasted bread with video game characters on it, of course. A rare, collectable PaRappa the Rapper toaster is up for grabs on eBay. There's about a day and a half remaining on the auction, and it's currently going for $118.05. The seller describes it thusly: For sale is the extremely rare Parappa the Rapper Official Space Age Printing Toaster. This is a real working toaster, and is an officially licensed product. This is VERY RARE. It's missing the box and one of the printing slides. The toaster functions properly and is safe to use (however the pictures don't appear well on wheat bread). This is the only one of these I have seen for sale online in a long time. Don't miss out on this amazing collectible. What you see is what you get. These images are included with the listing: It seems that this toaster was produced in Japan around the turn of the century, and even then was pricy to obtain in America. IGN wrote it up back in 1999, and shared this photo of what the Parappa toast looks like: So, if you've got the bucks to spare and a taste for exotic-looking toast, consider purchasing this piece of video game history. And now, here's Heywood Banks performing "Yeah Toast." Because yeah toast! (Source: GameSniped via Technabob)

You may be tempted, now that Durango rumors are flying hot and heavy, to ask Microsoft's customer support representatives about the next Xbox. One Kotaku reader tried that approach today. He even brought up the memo that was reportedly sent to Xbox employees earlier this week. It didn't work. Microsoft customer support ain't spilling. They want you to wait until May 21 for news on the next Xbox, which is code-named Durango. Still, we thought this transcript between customer support representative Kris and Kotaku reader Curry was entertaining enough to be worth sharing. Don't read into Kris's answers too much: the memo could still exist, even if he or she hasn't seen it. But enjoy the conversation nonetheless. Here's the transcript, completely unaltered: You are now chatting with 'Kris'. Kris: Hi Curry Curry: Durango [the codename for the next Xbox] is designed to deliver the future of entertainment while engineered to be tolerant of today's Internet." It continues, "There are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game Kris: How's your day going? Curry: IS THIS TRUE Curry: Good Kris: As of this time we are only allowed to say for you to tune in this 21st of May for the announcement of the Next generation Xbox. Curry: Can you tell me the name of it? Kris: I suggest, dont believe with those rumors, for it may veer away from what the real thing is. Curry: But is there truth to this "email"? Kris: Unfortunately , were not allowed to say it, for we I may loose my job if I spill some beans. :D I hope you understand. :) Curry: Pwese Curry: Tell? Curry: Y u no tell Kris: Dont believe with those rumors. Curry: i cant waIT Curry: But why it was one of your emails Kris: It was us who sent it? I dont believe so, they are very strict with information on this, eben us dont have much of an info. Curry: No it said it was an email to all of the employees of Durango from microsoft Curry: is this true? Kris: Nope. There was no email about that. Curry: Are you on the record? Kris: I suggest you just wait till the announcement on the 21st. Curry: So there was no email? Kris: There's was no official cascade about it, so dont believe with those rumors Curry: So that email is fake? Kris: But I'm pretty sure there are so much in store this coming 21st and the coming 201 Kris: 2013 E3 conference Kris: Most likely its fake Curry: But that email was fake, right? I don't want to believe something was false, so it is fake right? Kris: With regards to that, Official annoucements will only be thru our websites. Electronic Arts will still publish video games with guns in them, but it has severed official ties to gun manufacturers, Reuters reports.

The move comes during a national conversation about the role of guns, ideas to alter gun policy, and the role of guns in our media, video games or otherwise.

According to the publisher, it will still include “branded” guns in its games where appropriate, and doing so is protected by its right to free speech. That is yet to be legally tested.

Vice President Joe Biden met with leaders in the gaming industry in the weeks after the tragic Sandy Hook school shooting, which included now departed EA CEO John Riccitiello.

EA is scheduled to release Battlefield 4 later this year. Another Medal of Honor game is not expected for some time, as the franchise was put “on hold” after Medal of Honor: Warfighter disappointed critically and commercially. It’s also partnered with Respawn Entertainment, a studio filled with ex-Call of Duty developers, for its next project, which I’m told is a sci-fi shooter.

Wolfenstein: The New Order will not include multiplayer, Bethesda and developer MachineGames told Gamespot. The New Order stuck its neck out (and its right arm) yesterday with an announcement trailer featuring series protagonist B.J. Blazkowicz in an alternate 1960s universe where the Nazis won World War II.

Previous Wolfenstein games to include multiplayer include Return to Castle Wolfenstein, released in 2001, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, out in 2003, and the 2009 Wolfenstein for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. With a legacy as storied as Wolfenstein's, a few series fans may be dismayed to hear New Order won't include multiplayer.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and next-gen consoles in Q4 2013.

Yesterday I mentioned that some familiar faces cashed $25,000 checks in MLB 2K13's Million Dollar Challenge, including a guy accused of cheating in last year's contest. But I missed another important name: The man who blew the whistle on the scandal. Scott Young, edged out of a shot at a million-dollar prize last year by an exploit of both the game's code and a loophole in the contest rules, found justice this spring. Under a new contest format that awarded 30 players $25,000 each, Young cashed in by throwing the contest's top-rated perfect game with the Chicago White Sox. "It almost felt to me like they were compensating for last year, even though I know that's not what happened," Young told Kotaku. Last year, more than 900,000 gamers attempted to throw a perfect game—a game in which one pitcher pitches a complete game without allowing a single baserunner—to qualify for an eight man tournament in New York, with a $1 million prize on the line. Young befriended one qualifier over Xbox Live, who showed him how to stock the opposing team's lineup with weak hitters off the bench, while still generating a code that certified a legitimate performance. Young did not use the exploit in throwing his qualifying game, whose score was ultimately pushed out of contention. 2K Sports dismissed allegations of cheating and concluded the contest with at least one finalist there by virtue of the exploit. "I told myself this year that if they hadn't fixed the exploit, then I was going to take it right back," Young said. "I wasn't going to deal with that, because it did not involve any skill, whatsoever." 2K Sports did fix the exploit this year, and the contest's new format—which split up the prize pool over many more winners—was enough to bring Young back to something that had been so embittering the year before. "The biggest thing for me coming back was I know I could do it," Young said. "I knew I had that shot to win some cash, just playing a game." Young had, after all, thrown a perfect game with MLB 2K12 in the contest, and this year's game changed only minimally, and is almost identical in gameplay. "I'd come home from work, and my girlfriend has been so cool about this," Young said, "I have a daughter, she would take my daughter to the park and give me the living room. Every day she gave me that. "With about two weeks left, I really thought about quitting," Young said. "She said, 'You know what, take the day off, settle down, and see how you feel." He came back that night and threw a perfect game with Blake Beavan of the Seattle Mariners, putting him atop that team's leaderboard. Perfect games are scored according to number of pitches, strikeouts and quality of the opposition, among other factors. Young's 754 for Seattle was soon pushed off the board, but he kept at it, throwing four other games that, for a time, held a top position. "I thought I was going to get two or three [top scores]," Young said (there was no limit on the number of prizes a single gamer could collect.) Finally, a week before the contest ended, Young threw a 14-strikeout perfect game against Cleveland with Dylan Axelrod of the White Sox. It was good for a score of 781, and Young hung on through the final five days without anyone surpassing it. "People would say, 'Oh that's awesome! You're going to win!,' and I said, 'No, remember what happened the last time; I got bumped out at the last minute.'" He didn't this time, and everything, as far as anyone can tell, was contested fair and square. As soon as he was confirmed as a $25,000 winner, he went to a financial advisor at his local bank. He and his girlfriend have a second child on the way, and the money, properly managed, can certainly help with those expenses. "It's almost scary getting this amount of money," he said. "It's not a huge amount, but it is nice, and I don't want to screw it up and blow it." Young also is in better shape now than if he had gotten a final round berth last year, which didn't guarantee anything other than a nice trip to New York City. The million-dollar prize pool was a winner-take-all deal last time. "The new format is a huge reason why I wanted to compete," Young said. "I thought was going to get two or three top perfect games," he said, "but I knew I would throw at least one." Angry Birds fans will soon be able to have their progress migrate across multiple devices. Enter: Rovio accounts, only available in The Croods game and the original Angry Birds (Poland and Finland) right now, but Rovio expects to roll out the functionality to all of its games eventually.

Rovio's latest financial report shows the company had a strong 2012, earning $195 million in revenue, with almost half of that coming from toy sales alone. The most recent Angry Birds game from Rovio is Angry Birds Friends, a free app on iOS and Android that integrates with Facebook.

Lots of games feature zombies. Not many games let you play as them. Maybe that's why I've taken an interest in Ray's The Dead, a new Kickstarter project that promises to be a zombie game unlike any others, mostly because the zombies are the stars. This is an "action-stealth-puzzler" where you play as a zombie who can run around recruiting other zombies and converting humans to your cause. The people behind Ray's The Dead want $75,000 to make it happen. Their Kickstarter campaign, like all Kickstarter campaigns, is full of lofty promises about the story and sound and gameplay, and it sounds pretty damn cool. (Project lead Chris Cobb is an industry veteran, too; he's worked on Thief 3, among other games.) Video below:

If you think Valve Time is bad now, wait until their engineers are on another planet. Meet Jeep Barnett. He's a programmer at Valve, a former student at DigiPen, and one of the original creators of Narbacular Drop, the 3D puzzle game that let you navigate the world using a pair of connected portals. He went on to help create that game's spiritual successor, Portal. And he wants to go to Mars. Seriously. He wants to live there. "Living in the wilderness has always appealed to me on a primal level," Barnett told me in an e-mail. "I love being able to take responsibility and direct action for my day to day survival. Lately I find myself taking backpacking trips on less worn paths and staying out for longer. Becoming a Mars frontiersman is the ultimate commitment to that sort of lifestyle." This month, Barnett applied to Mars One, a privately-funded program designed to establish a human colony on the red planet. The program, which will be partially funded by a giant reality TV show starring applicants and astronauts, hopes to be "the biggest media spectacle in history." Their goal: to colonize Mars by 2023. (In other words, before Half-Life 3 comes out.) "I grew up believing that everything in science fiction would eventually become science fact," Barnett says in his Mars One video application, which you can watch here. "So I get super excited for each advancement that happens in my lifetime. I want to help make this a reality." And, yes. He's serious. "When you consider all the crazy places that humans have settled on Earth, living on Mars doesn't seem that far-fetched!" Barnett told me when I asked if he'd be ready to leave right away. "We're actually coming up on the 100th anniversary of the first permanent base in Antarctica. I wouldn't want to hop a ship without the years of critical training and preparation needed, but hypothetically, yes, I'd be ready to leave next week without regret." If selected, Barnett said he wants to help maintain safe living conditions, engineer facilities and infrastructure, help ensure that they have a stable food supply, and create entertainment, like games and music, for everyone else on the foreign planet. I asked what he'd want to bring. "I'm not sure what the weight limit is, but I know that every pound is expensive," Barnett said. "I'd want a simple infallible music device such as parts for a xylophone and a thumb-drive full of photos, art, comics, books, music, and games from Earth." And as for his current projects? Surely Half-Life 3 (or whatever) must be more exciting than Mars? "It's hard to talk about this Mars stuff with seriously because I know that it's such a long shot," Barnett said. "In the likely scenario that I live out the rest of my days on Earth, I'd still be completely satisfied! I love going to work every day with all the awesome projects and people at Valve. But if I'm selected to go, I would definitely push to tie up some loose ends." To contact the author of this post, write to jason@kotaku.com or find him on Twitter at @jasonschreier.

LucasArts might be gone, but the characters from its classic adventure games live on. In YouTube user Felipe Machado's video, the worlds of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, Indiana Jones and almost everything else LucasArts did in the 90s collide for terrific a mini-adventure. And their adventure has a rather unexpected cameo at the end... I'd watch more of these, since the dialogue resembles the original games a bit. And despite the graphics being distinct in each one of these games, Mr. Machado was able to fit them together perfectly. In many countries, there's freedom of speech. You can criticize your country's government and leaders on, for example, television. On China's state-run TV, you cannot. Enter Jon Stewart. The Chinese Government controls China Central Television, or CCTV. "The role of the media as defined by the (Communist) Party is to serve the party's interests," David Bandurski, editor of the China Media Project website at the University of Hong Kong, explained to Asahi. And what about the lack of free speech? According to the Council on Foreign Relations, media censorship comes in the form of fear, punishment, and "self-censorship". Against this backdrop, CCTV recently used a Jon Stewart clip to lay into the U.S. over the Guantanamo Bay political stalemate, reports South China Morning Post (via ShangahiIst). You can watch the CCTV news clip, which is from the April 30 episode of The Daily Show, below. As SCMP points out, state television's attempt to poke fun at the U.S. with Stewart backfired online in China, with people saying that CCTV was being hypocritical and missing the irony. "There are so many problems happening domestically that you choose not to broadcast every day, but instead choose to smell the farts of other countries," one Chinese commenter wrote in video's comment section. "This is our country's mainstream media... They just want to divert our attention to problems [of other countries] away from poisonous ginger, tainted milk, gutter oil and undrinkable tap water," quipped another. According to SCMP, others said CCTV was dishing out a "low blow", especially in a country where political satire shows are few and far between. "At least they are free [in the US] to criticize their president openly on television," added another individual on the country's micro-blogging service. One reason perhaps why CCTV's effort to use Stewart failed could be that he, as The New Yorker pointed out, already has a sizeable following online in China, where his clips are fan translated and rack up millions of views. People know who Stewart is and what he does. But as popular as Stewart is becoming online in China, The Daily Show, or "Meiri Xiu" ("Everyday Show") as it's called in Chinese, is not offered via official broadcast channels. As one Chinese micro-blogger asked earlier this spring, "When will China have its own Jon Stewart?" Probably when state-run TV realizes it should serve the viewers' interests instead of the Communist Party's. The noodles are lightly fried into a ramen patty, which is placed between two burger buns along with tender pork cutlet and mayonnaise. The burger is also served with "katsuo dashi" (a type of Japanese broth) soup. Priced at 634 yen (US$6.30), the limited time only burger with soup is available starting May 20. British police in York, England are on the lookout for a suspect that they believe is a white woman. Or a green woman. Or a white woman in green paint. Whatever. Not to be confused with the other recent Hulk attack, this alleged Hulk assault happened in late April outside a McDonald's at 3am and left a 17 year-old young woman with a bruised face and a black eye. According to The York Press (via Bleeding Cool), police now think that a woman covered in green body paint and dyed red hair carried out this "wholly unprovoked assault". The victim's injuries, thankfully, were not as severe as they could have been. The alleged attacker appears to be in her late teens to early twenties, around 5ft 8in tall, and seemingly prone to dress as Marvel characters. Police Constable Cheryl Hunter told The York Press, "If you witnessed the assault or can identify the woman I need to speak to about this incident, I ask that you contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away." Word of caution: Just don't make this suspect angry. You wouldn't like her when she's angry. The Kickstarter for Pixel Press is now live. As we wrote last week, the app allows iOS devices to scan level designs drawn on special graph paper, automatically turning them into a playable platformer. Once scanned, users will be able to adjust textures and music using either pre-installed assets or their own custom work. Users will then be able to share their levels with other Pixel Press users.

Developer Roundthird is seeking $100,000 to fund the project.

Coffee Stain Studios' Sanctum 2 will launch for the Xbox 360 on May 15, Major Nelson has announced. We've followed up with publisher Reverb to see if this is the launch date for PSN and PC, as well.

Sanctum 2 is the sequel to Coffee Stain Studio's hybrid first-person shooter and tower defense game, Sanctum. Coffee Stain Studios was founded in 2010 by local Swedish students. The studio's first game was I Love Strawberries on iOS.
