Telltale Games' Poker Night 2 hit the Xbox 360 today, leaving PC players two days and PlayStation 3 gamers until next week to figure out if they're all-in or not. I'm torn. On the one hand, I'm not good with card games that don't have fantasy art and statistics on them. I know there's deep strategy to poker, but it's the sort of deep strategy that puts me right to sleep unless James Bond is doing the strategizing. On the other hand, GLaDOS, Sam, and Brock Samson. I could take or leave not-Ash and Claptrap, but GLaDOS meets Brock is the title of my unfinished erotic fanfic. Decisions, decisions.

Telltale's Poker Night 2 will contain a whole bevy of unlockables, according to this trailer—not just for Poker Night 2 itself, but also for Borderlands 2 and Team Fortress 2, along with themes for PS3 and avatar items for Xbox 360. The game's coming out next week, on April 23.

I’ve only played poker twice! Yet here I am writing a post about a poker game! That’s the kind of consummate professional I am. I know enough about poker to get away with this, though – for instance, I know that if someone plays five Jacks at once it’s called a Belgian Tickle and everyone else in the game has to take their trousers off. I know that if anyone scores 21, they immediately have to give their car keys to a homeless person. And I know that Telltale’s first attempt at a poker-based game starring a selection of pop-cultural characters was disappointing. Given that, post-Walking Dead, the studio is presumably now aware of the critical and commercial benefits of making really good rather than merely adequate and formulaic games, hopefully that means they’re going to give Poker Night 2 their all.(more…)

If you even think you want to pick up Telltale's Poker Night at the Inventory, you might as well hedge your bets and pre-order it. The game is out Monday, November 22, at which point you will no longer be able to get the pre-order-exclusive poker visor for your Heavy in Team Fortress 2. Yes, it's a really small, minor thing, but getting a free thing is usually better than not getting a free thing. You can also save 10% off the $4.95 price if you pre-order from Steam before Monday.

Of course, once you have the game, you have the opportunity to win several more wacky TF2 items, like Tycho Brahe's watch and a Sam & Max-inspired Freelance Police badge.
