Home is a unique horror adventure set in a beautifully-realized pixel world. Its a murder mystery with a twist—because you decide what ultimately happens. Awakened by an oncoming storm, you open your eyes to discover yourself in a strange, dark room—tucked away in a house thats not yours. As you play the game, it changes—subtly, almost imperceptibly—to reflect your perspective. It's a horror game unlike any other, and as you'll discover, its truths are entirely subjective.

#steamgreenlight After one day of poking around Steam Greenlight, I feel like I have seen this all before. And then I realize: in a way, Steam's suddenly going all Kickstarter. It's a big new platform that the little guys—and not-so-little-guys—can use to get their project in front of millions. And it's a bit of a mess. More »

Torchlight II is coming to PCs on September 20, developer Runic Games announced. Runic president and Torchlight II designer Travis Baldree revealed the date on the game's official forum.

Torchlight II was originally intended to beat rival Diablo III to the punch by releasing last year, but after multiple delays it's now set to arrive in three weeks time. The action-RPG, which features the additions of online and local co-op, and four new character classes, is currently priced on Steam at $20. There remains no word beyond hope of a console release.

Italian horror Anna is coming to Steam September 21, available to download for PC and Mac. Developer Dreampainters originally released Anna on other portals in the summer, but German publisher Kalypso Media is now distributing the game onto Steam with a price tag of $10.

The point-and-click thriller is based on the myths of a northern Italian valley. The choices you make affect the protagonists' "mental health," leading to one of three different endings.

A free-to-play version of Gotham City Impostors apparently launched very quietly on Steam yesterday. Monolith Productions' multiplayer shooter, originally released for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC in February as a paid-for download, is now available to download onto PCs for free. What's curious is there seems to be zero official word from Monolith or publisher Warner Bros. Interactive on the matter. What's more, the game appeared as an unofficial listing on Steam's Open Steamworks database earlier this week.

There are downloadable content packs listed on impostors' Steam page too, although the price list looks oddly incomplete. It very much seems the game launched accidentally, but it's definitely there. We're downloading it right now, and people are playing it.

We've reached out to Warner Bros. for comment.

[Thanks, Ethan]

There are two versions of Garry’s Mod: the standard version that’s been in the same shape for a while now, and the beta. The beta, aka GMod 13, is a relatively recent arrival, built to allow Garry to overhaul the whole game without breaking the one everyone’s playing. It uncouples the development from the main fork, and that serves two purposes. Firstly, it gives Garry the opportunity to make big changes without constantly dealing with complaints that the game is broken, and secondly, it gives everyone a look at what’s being done to prepare for when the release arrives. The base game will be better, but other things will break.

I asked Garry to walk me through the most important future updates. (more…)

Snapshot is now available (surprisingly) on Steam. Retro Affect's 2D puzzle-platformer has been in development for several years and stars a robot named Pic, who can change the environment around him by taking pictures and placing them in the environment. The creative game is also coming to the PS Vita and PS3 later this year.

Snapshot is the second project from Retro Affect - the studio's first effort was Depict1, a freeware game that came out of Global Game Jam 2010. Kyle Pulver, one of the members of Retro Affect, also recently launched his solo project Offspring Fling, a fun-yet-evil game about throwing babies around.

Snapshot is now available on Steam and is 10% off until September 6th at 10am Pacific time!

Snapshot is the tale of a lone robot lost in an abandoned world. Armed with only his trusty camera, Pic sets forth on his great adventure. A camera might not seem like enough for a puzzle platforming adventure, but this camera is different from most: It has the ability to capture and remove from the world the very objects that it photographs. Not only that, but it can also use its powers to paste the photos it took back into the environment!

Steam Greenlight, a community-based means of discussing and judging potential games for launch on Steam, is up and running with more than 30 games on the docket. Steam Greenlight, announced in July, is a hub for developers to post information about their games to collect fan feedback and get voted onto Steam's radar for future releases.

Greenlight currently hosts Mutant Mudds, The Intruder, Organ Trail, 8Bit MMO, Paper Monsters, DLC Quest, Call of Cthulhu: The Wasted Land, But to Paint a Universe, EvilQuest and Cute Things Dying Violently, among other low- and high-profile indie titles.

"We've been working on this feature for the last few months with the input from a group of indie partners, and the response has been extremely positive," Valve's Anna Sweet says.

Discuss and rate the available games on Greenlight now.

Over 30 Titles Awaiting Community Feedback

August 30, 2012 -- Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the launch of Steam Greenlight, a new platform feature that enlists the communitys help in selecting some of the next games to be released on Steam.

Announced earlier this summer, Steam Greenlight allows developers and publishers to post information and media about their game in an effort to convince the Community that the game should be released on Steam. Greenlight piggybacks on Steam Workshops flexible system that organizes content and lets customers rate and leave feedback.

Weve been working on this feature for the last few months with the input from a group of indie partners, and the response has been extremely positive, said Valves Anna Sweet. With the additional help of beta testers, we are able to launch with a solid line-up of titles for the community to start viewing and rating. And, as weve done with all Steam features, we intend to continually grow and modify Greenlight as more and more developers and community members have a chance to get involved.

As well as serving as a clearing house for game submissions, Greenlight provides an incredible level of added exposure for new games and an opportunity to connect directly with potential customers and fans.

Atmospheric pixel-art horror indie Home will be available on Steam starting this Friday, August 31, and will subsequently no longer be available directly from developer Benjamin Rivers, as was previously the case.

Home's $2.00 price tag will be bumped up to $2.99, but it will also now include a PDF manual similar to the real-life manual included with the Old-School Collector's Edition, with the possibility of this new digital version containing "something extra." Additionally, anyone who purchased the Old-School Collector's Edition will receive a free voucher for the Steam version of the game.

Players who purchased the non-Collector's Edition of Home can expect "updates and support for their purchase in parity with the Steam release (now and in the future)," according to Rivers.
