Awesomenauts - Cap'n Vinnie & Seadog Spike, all new content for Awesomenauts is Now Available on Steam!

This DLC contains a custom pirate skin for Vinnie & Spike! Chatting in piratespeech will never be more appropriate than when you rock this baby during an Awesomenauts match. All Yo Ho's, plank-walking references, plundering references and buried treasure references will be 74,2% funnier (and totally non-cliche) if you are manly enough to tread the interstellar battlefields as Cap'n Vinnie & Seadog Spike.

1000 Amps 2.0 Update: Free On Windows, Beta on Mac OSX

Version 2.0 of 1000 Amps is a very large update that involved the re-coding of the entire game in C++. The immediate advantages of that was to allow fullscreen that didn't run in auto-max resolution, have saves that weren't left to the whims of a web browser, and allow for standard Steam features like the overlay and achievements.

All of these things have been added, and then some. Here's a complete
breakdown:

-Auto-saving (was in v1.3, but I think it's worth mentioning) -Teleport now saps 'flow' tiles -Minor room corrections -Each room has a name, displayed on the bottom left of the screen -In-Game Mini-Map (can be enabled from pause menu) -Full pause map, shows you what rooms you've completed at a glance -Battery now shows how many tiles remain to be lit -Completely new look for text elements in the HUD
-4:3 Aspect Ratio
-Steam Overlay
-Steam Achievements (10 of them)

I may have forgot some little things, but that's the bulk of it. Here are some extra things to keep in mind about the update:

-Saves from the Flash version will not carry over. That's just the way it has to be, and it'll make it easy to go back through and get achievements.
-The graphics having changed from vector to raster, as well as a change of rendering method, results in the game using some parts of your computer that it didn't before. If you've got a graphics card, you'll probably get better performance, which wasn't necessarily the case with the Flash version.
-If for whatever reason you don't like any of this, the Flash version is still there with the Windows version. You should be able to find it in your Steamapps/common/1000 Amps folder labeled '1000AmpsFlash.exe'.

The update is now available for free to everyone who has already bought
1000 Amps on Windows. On OSX it is available for free in Beta because of compatibility issues with OSX 10.7.5 Mountain Lion. To access the Beta right click 1000 Amps in your game library, click properties, then the betas tab, and from the dropdown box select beta. The password for the beta is 'beta'. This will download the 2.0 update for you. It should work on pre-Mountain Lion versions of OSX. Until all versions of OSX works, the default for OSX will be the Flash version 1.3 of 1000 Amps.

I do hope that covers all the bases. I've tried my best to respond to some of the most common criticisms of the game, and I hope you'll be able to enjoy it more as a result.

QUBE, the whitewashed indie puzzler from Toxic Games and backed by Indie Fund, is now out for Mac on Steam. That's right, PC gamers no longer have a monopoly on playing with bright blocks in sterile white spaces. Children in waiting rooms worldwide, rejoice.

We first heard that QUBE was breaking out of its PC prison in January, when Toxic said it was working on iOS, Mac and OnLive versions of the game. The last update mentioning an iOS version was in August; Toxic said information on a touchscreen game with "similar mechanics" to QUBE was coming "soon enough." That same post says DLC for QUBE is in the works, and QUBE 2 is a possibility, perhaps with some crowdfunding. Toxic has a few ideas regarding a sequel, at least.

Q.U.B.E. is now available on the Mac!

Set in a mysterious and abstract sterile environment, Q.U.B.E. (Quick Understanding of Block Extrusion) is a first-person puzzle game that challenges players to navigate each level by manipulating coloured cubes that surround them. There's little to go on as the game begins - the player is dropped into an all-white room with few instructions, and simply has to figure their way out.

The tone of game changes as the player finds small and big alterations to their environment, supported by an original score, inviting each player to let their imagination take over as to where they might be. Through experimentation and discovery, players will progress through an ever-evolving series of cube puzzles that will challenge them with logic, physics, platforming.

Do you ever feel lost? As though each and every moment is just a blind struggle in some abyssal darkness? I know I do – especially when the power’s out or I forget how to open my eyes. But also, you know, metaphorically and stuff. And, as ever, in the game. Fortunately, Steam’s now offering a solution to one of those issues – and, given Valve’s unending quest to make its download/social network/movie-making/productivity software service do everything, the others can’t be far behind. But yes, Steam Guides. They’re in beta, and – if you’re feeling so inclined – you can go make one of your very own right now.

#yearinreview Oh, Valve. If a company is doing this well, then you know there must be something incredibly sinister going on beneath the surface. I considered trying to infiltrate the shadowy ranks of Valve to uncover their origins (subterranean? Extraterrestrial? Cthulhoid?) but thought better of it for the sake of my health, and the fact that someone needs to feed my fish. More »
