On January 15th, Valve will announce the next batch of games and software titles that the community has voted up and will move them to the 'Greenlit' section of Steam Greenlight.

Steam Greenlight is a system that enlists the community's help in picking new games to be released on Steam. Developers post information, screenshots, and videos for their game and seek a critical mass of community support in order to get selected for distribution. Steam Greenlight also helps developers get feedback from potential customers and start creating an active community around their game as early in the development process as they like.

So make sure to vote for your favorites and spread the word--help pick new games to make available via Steam.

The Valve shudders as gears lock into position, a thin jet of Steam erupts from the machine, scalding a penguin’s bum. My latest collection of poetry inspired by climate change, the guffaw-inducingly titled Global Warning, is out in February. In other news, Valve have made the Steam For Linux beta available for everyone. Development news is found on the community site and the beta now supports 39 games, listed here. Even though I don’t use Linux myself, I have now decided that I’m giving it to everyone for Christmas.

Another Bit.Trip game has been released on Steam for PC and Mac. Bit.Trip Void, the third game to be released on WiiWare originally, is out today for $8.99, 10 percent off its regular price. In addition, a game and soundtrack bundle, featuring tracks by Nullsleep, is on sale for $10.79.

Even if you played it on WiiWare, there are reasons to consider checking it out on PC. Void has new difficulty modes and mid-level checkpoints, which are always embarrassingly welcome in these games.

In other Steam Bit.Trip news, you can now pre-order Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien for $13.49. You'll get a free copy of Runner for your trouble.

Hammerpoint Interactive's The War Z has been removed from Steam amid allegations of false advertising from its community, which claims that the developer knowingly listed inaccurate information on The War Z's Steam profile.

Originally, the game's profile touted multiple areas ranging in size from 100 to 400 kilometers and servers capable of handling up to 100 players, according to this screenshot obtained by Gamespy. The profile also stated that The War Z was a "Single Purchase, Downloadable Client with the ability to play the full game without subscriptions or requiring in-game transactions," and failed to mention that this is a "Foundation Release," meaning that the game is still under development, with some areas even marked with alpha testing information.

In actuality, the game only has one zone, and servers were initially capped at a maximum of 50 players, though that issue at least appears to have been corrected. Moreover, The War Z features a microtransactional-based in-game economy, somewhat contradicting its claim of being a "single purchase" game. The profile has since been rejiggered and no longer makes mention of the multiple zones, nor does it make any mention of in-game transactions. It does, however, still neglect information about the game's somewhat early developmental stage.

"At the same time it was clear that there were a number of customers that felt that information about the game was presented in a way that could have allowed for multiple interpretations," The War Z executive producer Sergey Titov said in a statement on the game's official forums.

"We've taken steps to correct this and format information presented on our Steam Store page in a way so it provides more clear information about game features that are present in the Foundation Release and what to expect in the coming weeks. We also want to extend our apologies to all players who misread infromation [sic] about game features."

For its part, Valve has apologized for listing The War Z and is offering refunds. "From time to time a mistake can be made and one was made by prematurely issuing a copy of War Z for sale via Steam," Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi told Forbes.

"We apologize for this and have temporary removed the sale offering of the title until we have time to work with the developer and have confidence in a new build. Those who purchase the game and wish to continue playing it via Steam may do so. Those who purchased the title via Steam and are unhappy with what they received may seek a refund bycreating a ticket at our support site here."

Crikey – Kotaku have just reported that The War Z has just been removed from Steam. There was word earlier today that Valve were looking into forum moderation issues regarding the game, but people were hopeful they’d dig somewhat deeper into the real issues that had been raised, regarding the apparent false advertising of features on its store page. Those have been changed since, but for whatever reason the game is now not available to purchase. It is listed instead as “Uninitialized”. If you already own it, however, your Steam copy will still run.

We’ve just received a statement from Valve about the game, explaining that it’s been removed because they consider it not a complete build, and they’re offering refunds to unhappy customers. You can read the statement below.

DmC: Devil May Cry is Now Available for Pre-Purchase on Steam.

Pre-Purchase now and receive the free DmC Costume Pack!

In this retelling of Dante's origin story which is set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry™ retains the stylish action, fluid combat and self-assured protagonist that have defined the iconic series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge.

The Dante of DmC is a young man who has no respect for authority or indeed society in general. Dante knows that he is not human, but also that he is not like the demons that have tormented him throughout his life. Caught between worlds, he feels like an outcast.

Thanks to his twin brother Vergil, leader of the anti-establishment group called The Order, Dante is now discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a real impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.
