#thewarz Let's be kind and say The WarZ had a rough launch. A very rough launch. And that's being very kind. More »

Back in December, The War Z was pulled from Steam amidst allegations of false advertising and inaccuracies on the game's Steam page - well, these were less allegations and more total lies right there on the page for everyone to see. After a few months of downtime, developer Hammerpoint Interactive's The War Z has returned to Steam.

On top of the corrected Steam page for The War Z, there's also a new update available today for existing owners that brings the game up to release-quality status. If you wanted to get in on Valve's apology (see: refund) for selling the game prematurely, that window has now closed.

The War Z can be purchased through Steam for $15 on its own right now - or in two more expensive bundles that each toss in varying levels of in-game currency, for $25 and $50.

Gaining entrance to Arma 3's closed alpha will be a simple matter of slappin' down some virtually-represented cash stacks, once the test goes live next Tuesday, March 5. Available through Steam, the alpha will include four missions, a "limited subset of vehicles and weapons," two multiplayer maps, a Scenario Editor and mod support.

The size of the requisite cash stack varies depending on which version of the alpha you buy: A standard version for $33 or a Digital Deluxe Edition for $50. The Deluxe Edition features a soundtrack, "digital maps," a "tactical guide" and a Steam copy of Arma: Cold War Assault, all of which will become available when the full version of the game launches in Q3.

There will also be a $92 Supporter Edition available directly from the developer's online store, which includes all of the Deluxe Edition bonuses, as well as all future Arma 3 DLC and the "opportunity" to have your name in the credits, whatever that means.

All three versions include automatic access to the Arma 3 beta test slated to start in Q2, as well as a copy of the full game when it eventually comes out. Players who purchase access to the alpha can also invite their friends to participate in an even more limited "Lite" version of the test, which does not include multiplayer or modding support.

Update Notes - Feb 26th

WINTER:
-Winter comes every 20 days or so, with snow and a new audio landscape.
-Ambient air temperature is modelled, and Wilson will get colder the longer he stays out in the open.
-Getting too cold for too long will cause freezing damage. You can extend your time away from the fire by wearing warm clothing.
-Nights are longer, and vegetation does not replenish.
-Bees and butterflies dont leave their houses in the winter.

IMPROVED MOD SUPPORT:
-There is a new mod API that should make mods break less when the game updates, and allows multiple mods to work at the same time. There is some documentation on how to create
a mod at: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/showthread.php?10817-TUTORIAL-Creating-a-Mod-using-the-Mod-System

-Language packs are now actually supported. The game supplies a 'strings.pot' template file with every update, and the game can load .po language files. This should make maintaining translations a lot easier, and allows the usage of industry-standard tools. For more info, go to: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/showthread.php?10819-TUTORIAL-Creating-a-translation-using-the-PO-Format

NEW CREATURES:
-MacTusk the Walrus - Sets up camp in an igloo, and then hunt you with blowdarts and hounds.
-Deerclops - Hes big, he likes to smash stuff, and hes really hard to kill. You should probably just run away.
-Winter Koalefant - You can harvest his warm winter trunk.
-Snowbird - A winter bird that drops a new type of feather.
-Mosquitos - Spawn from ponds or Maxwellian traps. They eat too much and explode!
-Ice Hound - Comes instead of the Fire Hound during winter.

NEW ITEM DROPS:
-Blue Gem
-Walrus Tusk
-Deerclops Eye
-Tam oShanter
-Snowbird Feather

NEW CRAFTABLES:
-Ice Staff
-Winterometer
-Blow Darts (damaging)
-Winter Trunk Vest

ADVENTURE MODE (CONTINUED):
-This update continues the development of Adventure mode, and seeks to refine the difficulty curve.
-Varying summer/winter lengths
-Varying day/night lengths
-New resource-starved worlds
-Island chain worlds with lots of wormholes

SANDBOX MODE (CONTINUED):
-Added a new world creation screen. There are only a couple of options enabled currently, but soon you will be able to unlock more!

SANITY TUNING:
-From our testing, we determined that sanity was coming on too early for new players, but was also easily avoidable by established players. The intention is for sanity to be a long-term lurking danger, so this was the complete opposite of what we were going for. Here are some changes to help rectify this:
-Vegetables, crock foods dont regen as much sanity.
-Monsters cause more sanity drain when near.
-Players Initial sanity is higher.
-Pure darkness causes a large drop sanity (instead of a gradient around a light source).
-Shadowbeasts show up later in the sanity curve, and are unattackable when you are not insane.
-The crawling horror is weaker and the Terrorbeak is tougher.
-The invisible monster deals sanity damage when he hits you.
-The sanity effect jiggles more slowly, so as to be less nauseating.

TUNING/FIXES:
-Rabbit traps work again
-Maxwell leaves traps for you in adventure mode
-Armour is less effective
-Player attacks are less powerful
-Pigs cant be stunlocked, have less windup animation before an attack, attack less often, have more health, take longer to respawn, and attempt to kite their targets
-Bees run around between attacks
-Meat healing and health values adjusted
-Dead rabbits respawn slower
-Beefalo drop fewer meats
-Honey doesnt heal as much
-Honey generates more slowly in bee boxes
-Spider dens have more warriors, and cycle through levels faster
-Spoilage is a bit faster in general
-Stale food has less of a hunger penalty
-Healing values are a bit lower in general
-Ponds show up in more places
-Eyebones turn to ash during teleportation even if you hide them in a backpack
-Teleportato pieces are more scattered, and have little setpiece scenes surrounding them
-Panflutes require a mandrake to craft
-Darts shouldnt miss targets that are walking away
-More effective bushhat

Stardock Entertainment is pleased to announce the release of v1.3 for its epic, turn-based strategy game, Fallen Enchantress today. This latest update adds the new Majesty spell, AI improvements, balance adjustments, UI improvements and bug fixes.

Version 1.30 Changelog:

New Features:

  • Added the Majesty spell
  • Added 115 new unit designs for the AI to use (designs from Kongdej, thanks!)

Balance Updates:

  • Conclaves generate more Research but less Gold
  • Forts generate more Production but less Gold
  • Animal Husbandry gives +10 food per grain
  • Granary gives +35 food per grain instead of +25
  • Mill gives +4 production per material instead of +3
  • Slave Pen gives +4 production per material instead of +3
  • Labor Guild gives +6 production per material instead of +5
  • Refined Agriculture gives +10 food per grain instead of +5
  • Overhauled the tile yield system, in general the crappy tiles no longer show up, the good tiles do and are more varied (no more oceans of tile yields, instead you see 5-6 spots with different yields)
  • Increased the base production per material from 6 to 8
  • Towns people automatically destroy the Forge of the Overlord components when they're conquered to prevent them from falling into enemy hands
  • Champion Recruitment cost gets gradually more expensive based on the # of champions the player has
  • Tireless March can only be cast on one unit at a time
  • Blindness lowers the victims Accuracy by 25% instead of 50%

Fixes:

  • Fixed the quest that reduced the occupation unrest penalty (bonus: modders can now modify any elementaldef attr)
  • Fixed the Blood Season event
  • Fixed an issue that caused Deorcnysse to not have any production or food
  • Fixed Shadow World to be castable anywhere
  • Fixed an issue keeping the Confusion spell from showing up as a spell
  • Fixed a gamesave corruption issue
  • Fixed crashes
  • Fixed an issue that can cause bounding boxes to get offset (ie: you click on one tile/unit and it selects a different tile)
  • Fixed an issue keeping the Cloak of Thorns spell from working
  • Fixed the Strange Noises quest to correctly give the wolf pups
  • Fixed a hang issue (game goes not responding)
  • Fixed an issue not allowing players to settle in the Ruins of the Imperium wildland (and therfor be unable to conquer it)
  • Fixed the Loner trait
  • Fixed an issue causing plague stalker lairs to look like empty tiles (this is why many people thought the asaq wildland was broken, there were other goodie huts you needed to clear but there was literally nothing in the tile displaying them or icon indicating they were there)

AI:

  • AI is more aggressive about researching and completing the Spell of Making victory
  • AI more likely to value lumber improvements as production boosts
  • AI players now sell their loot to the item shop
  • Reduced AI valuing of various treaties to get rid of the "If you pay me 120 gildar I'll give you a trade agreement worth 1 gildar per turn" popups
  • AI is more likely to ask for peace in war based on larger strategic considerations (rather than a simple military might calculation)
  • AI is more likely to bribe a player (human or machine) to go after other players IF the other player already has poor relations
  • Modified AI relation weights
  • AI players will try to acquire mounted units more effectively on normal and higher difficulty level
  • Updated Diplomacy Relations system: Relations are no longer calculated. Instead, each turn, a player's opinion of another player is measured and then trickles into an overall bucket that results in relations slowly changing over time
  • AI interacts more with players
  • AI Sovereign does a better job of searching for a good place for its capital rather than relying on its starting tile
  • Only certain types of AI personalities will aggressively target the spell of making victory path
  • AI Sovereign and champions more insistant on having support units before going out into combat
  • AI is smarter about where and when it builds the various Forge of the Overlord components (more defensible)
  • Fixed glitch that caused the AI not to "see" certain tiles as being able to be settled on
  • Added 115 new unit designs for the AI to use (designs from Kongdej, thanks!)

UI:

  • We've add an indicator on the faction power panel when a player controls the towers for the spell of making victory (so players have an earlier indication that the AI is about to end the game)
  • Lots of good typo and desc fixes from TBS Gamer (Thanks!)

The fanmade map Helm's Deep - wherein Left 4 Dead 2 players attempt to defend the iconic Lord of the Rings castle fortress from relentless hordes of the undead - is now an officially supported map.

It's part of the latest update to Left 4 Dead 2, which addresses consistency issues when playing on dedicated servers - Valve also decided to add Helm's Deep to the official servers list. If you want to add the map to your game, all you have to do is head to the Steam Workshop page for Helm's Deep Reborn and click to subscribe to download the map.

The Steam beta version of Left 4 Dead 2 recently added an Extended Mutation system, where players could tweak existing game types and maps or come up with entirely new ones of their own design. To date, the Left 4 Dead series has sold more than 12 million copies.

Build 176695 for Serious Sam 3 is released.
If you have previously opted into public beta, you already have this.

Here are the changes:
- Fix a crash occurring when switching from camera to player spectator mode.
- Added fix for micro-stuttering issue, controlled via 'sim_iFixMicroStuttering' cvar.
- Fixed messed textures after alt-tab in some cases on Direct3D.
- Fixed performance problems with HDR buffer resizing when choosing multiplayer model in menu.
- Fixed slightly wrong haze calculation in some cases.
- Some measures to remedy jittering when waiting for vsync in D3D that happened on some machines in some cases.
- Added cvar 'd3d_bTripleBuffering' to control whether to use triple-buffering, when waiting for vertical retrace under Direct3D.
- Fixed black screen on client when joining a Last Man Standing server.
- Fixed music on DeamonTombs not being controlled by music volume.
- If corruption of official gro files is detected, application will notify Steam that it should verify application cache on next restart. This should hopefully fix any corrupted files user may have on disk.
- If corruption of workshop gro files is detected, they will be deleted so that they will be automatically redownloaded on next application start.
- Editor: Editor now includes additional *_edit.gro files containing non-finalized versions of all files that were stripped of their edit data during creation of the game. This means that the editor download is now about 700MB bigger, but it allows you to edit all meshes, animations, mechanisms, etc.
- Editor: All official content including levels is now editable and can be saved. So custom versions of official levels can be created.
- Editor: If official content from a DLC is edited and resaved, it retains its DLC license. If such content is shipped to workshop, users subscribing to it need to have that DLC installed.
- Editor: It is now possible to finalize files using the shipped editor. Finalized files will be smaller in some cases, but will lack edit data.
- Editor: If some files are missing when loading documents in editor, placeholder "default" resources will be automatically created instead of failing the load.
- Editor: Fixed rendering size and aspect issues when running test game in editor, which caused mouse cursor in menus to be rendered in wrong position and other strange issues.
- Linux: Text input in Linux now respects the current keyboard layout.
- Linux: Support for clipboard (copy/paste).
- Linux: Fixed wrong characters in Linux for comma and period keys.
- Linux: Game now tries to restore desktop resolution after fatal error.
- Linux: Stack dump is now generated when the game crashes (into the Sam3.rpt file), similar to the Windows version. Post this when reporting crashes.
- Linux: Dedicated server would not start from Steam client.
- Localizations: Updated Bulgarian.

Build 174807 for Serious Sam 3 is released.
If you have previously opted into public beta, you already have this. For all others, here is the list of changes:

Here are the changes:
- Fixed slowdown due to constant resizing of HDR buffer when Netricsa HUD is on.
- Showing rendering resolution is now more accurate. (Shows size of HDR drawport and canvas it resides on.)
- Fixed erroneous calculation of object guide box handle size.
- Fixed a problem that would cause player weapon firing (for some weapons) to sometimes (randomly) be one frame late.
- Now using new Steam Workshop API that allows item sizes of up to 200MB, and should be more resistant to transient errors.
- Fixed survival medals not being shown.
- Linux: Gamepads are no longer disconnected if they don't have enough axes or buttons. This should also fix performance impact for such gamepads.
- Linux: Gamepad names are now logged.
- Editor: Implemented new macro function ApplyDamageTool() on base entity. This function exposes Editor's Damage Tool to scripts.
- Fixed an issue causing all split screen users to render primary user's crosshair icon instead of their own.
- Fixed player's view getting stuck when forced to look onto a target entity by script, if Free Look option is disabled.
- Added support for hardware gamma-correction for Linux and OSX platforms.
- OSX: Error will now be reported if cursor connect fails on OSX.

Kentucky Route Zero, the stylish indie hit from the good people of Cardboard Computer, is now on Steam for PC, Mac and Linux. To celebrate, the game is 10 percent off through March 1, $22.50 for all five episodes when they are unlocked; currently the first episode is available and very much worth it.

Those who purchased Kentucky Route Zero via the Humble Store can find a Steam key hanging out in their Humble download pages. The game is also on sale via the Humble Store through March 1, also for 10 percent off.

Kentucky Route Zero is nominated for four awards in the 2013 IGF, including a nod for the Seumas McNally grand prize. The game itself is an intense, oddly creepy interactive narrative, with a foundation in something Cardboard Computer calls "magical realist adventure." Plus, it's really pretty.
