Coffee Stain Studios' first-person tower defense/shooter hybrid is getting a sequel on May 15. As usual, pre-ordering nets you extra goodies, but in this case, you get something far better than an extra gun skin. Super Sanctum TD, which is also available separately for $4, is a retro re-imagining of Sanctum featuring traditional tower defense gameplay (with a dash of variety in the form of an active skill system). It features towers from both the first and second games, and a set of leaderboards to go with its levels, along with a large amount of achievements. Super Sanctum TD [Steam]

Nearly everything in Gaijin Games' esteemed Bit.Trip series has been marked down on Steam, from now until Monday, May 20.

For instance: Bit.Trip Collection, which includes Bit.Trip Beat, Bit.Trip Runner, Bit.Trip Core and Bit.Trip Void, has had its price cut by 75% and is now just $11.98. Likewise, all of those games can be purchased individually at a discounted price of $2.49. Even last year's gorgeous Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien has had its price dropped to less than $12 - we recommend gettin' while the gettin's good, as our very southern mom would say.

The Forest is a first-person horror game currently in development for the PC and Oculus Rift. After surviving a plane crash at the outset of the game, players must build and thrive in a mysterious forest, scavenging materials throughout the day and defending against an indigenous enemy by night.

Developer Ben Falcone promises changing weather and tides that shift with the day/night cycle. Players will have to chop down trees to build and make fires, scavenge food or plant seeds to grow, while traps will be necessary to maintain a safe perimeter and defend the home. On the game's about page, the nocturnal ne'er-do-wells are described as "a clan of genetic mutant enemies that have beliefs, families and morals."

The Forest is tentatively scheduled to launch in late 2013, and is now vying for a spot on Steam Greenlight.

Getting accepted through Steam's community-voting service, Greenlight, is an ongoing, complex project for many indie developers - and for Steam itself. Valve hosted a chat with Greenlight developers this week to discuss concerns, suggestions and propose what Greenlight may look like in the future.

Valve is "actively looking into" releasing the Steamworks API so developers can prepare their games prior to being Greenlit, though it has no timeframe to make that public. Currently all games go to the same Greenlight, but Valve said it would discuss the idea of separating the service by "games that are ready to go" and "games that are in development."

On May 1, Valve Greenlit a mini batch of games, and this system will most likely be the new standard, the team said: "Unfortunately, we have limited resources at the moment, so we cannot ship every game that we want. We're working toward having an open platform that Gabe has talked about, but we're not there yet."

May 9th, 2013 -- Ugly Baby Update -- Waffles!

Are you hungry? Amy apparently wants you to be. Whats that, you say? Staying away from the carbs? Well, hopefully this update is just as delicious.

GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE: Michael went all crazy with the UI! Brand spanking new graphics to tickle your eyes. Hes a perfectionist, so he says hes not done yet. How do you think its coming along? What can you figure out from it? What doesnt make sense?

GAMEPLAY: A new stunt has joined buzzes and grooves, because they were getting lonely. Meet the NEEDLE! Can you figure out how to do it? Gameplay has changed slightly, so listen closely. Get near anything to buzz an object. Orient the world to your stomach (bottom of the screen), to groove. If you hit things, you damage your sensor. If your sensors damaged, you cant do stunts! As your sensor detects stuff, you build up a score multiplier, so keep doing stunts!

VISUALIZER: Daves research continues to pay off. Play level one with some fast/heavy music. Dubstep, Rock, Death Metal, EDM. Thats all Im sayin.

Wed like to personally call out, the progress bar feature in this recent update was due in part to a user suggesting it. Im an awful person and cant remember who did originally, so if it was you, thank you, keep em coming!

As always, tell us what you love, what you hate, and where you think Michaels running off to next week. He wont tell us.

Update 1.05 Now available!
Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army ups the ante with Spring updates

Two major new features added in less than a month based on player feedback

Independent UK developer Rebellion has today released update 1.05 for co-op survival shooter Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army, not only enabling co-op players to multiply the numbers of enemies they face, but also adding support for drop in / drop out functionality.

Hot on the heels of Aprils popular Multiplier update - allowing solo-players to multiply the numbers of enemies they face to terrifying levels - this update is the second major feature added to the game in less than a month based on suggestions and comments from the games growing community.

Update 1.05 also includes a small selection of fixes.

Key Features:
Drop in / Drop out functionality added. (See technical notes below)
Co-op enemy multiplier added. (e.g 2 players can play against 4 player numbers of enemies)

Fix list:
Fix for potential progression blocker on Cathedral level.
Fix for progression blocker on Library Of Evil.
Fix to make sure Bullet cam "minimal" settings reduces bullet cameras in game.
Fix to stop score points exploit on skeletons.

Known issues:
Some single player inter level saves will be invalidated with this update. This was due to level progression fixes. If problems are encountered a level restart may be required.

Technical notes on drop in /drop out:
- Can only join whilst players are in lobby or in actual gameplay.
- Cannot join whilst in loading, waiting for players, syncing, cutscenes or end game menus.
- Private match option blocks all joining.
- Quick match can be found and joined by any player unless private match is selected.
- Private game can only be found and joined by friends, either through an invite from host or by selecting to join game from steam in-game overlay, unless private match is selected.
- The private match option can be toggled both in the lobby and in game via the pause menu.
- The private match option is not available when in cutscenes or end game menus.

- Players joining outside safe zones will spawn at the host position.
- If the enemy multiplier is set to default then when a player joins the enemies increase to match the number of players.
- If the enemy multiplier is set to default then when a player leaves the number of enemies will only decrease to match the player numbers when a safe zone is reached.
- Host must wait for players joining a game to be fully in gameplay before being able to restart a game - a message box will popup informing the host of this.

Valve tinkers with a lot of things - whatever it feels like, mostly - but has a particular interest in biometrics and direct player feedback within games. At the Neurogaming Conference last week, Valve Experimental Psychologist (seriously, whatever if feels like) Mike Ambinder described a few tests he'd recently run, as reported by Venture Beat.

In one test, Valve measured how much players sweat while playing Left 4 Dead, as correlated to their levels of arousal - just as Valve boss Gabe Newell specified back in March, concerning biometrics in the Steam Box. Another experiment gave players four minutes to shoot 100 enemies, and the game would move more quickly as the player showed signs of nervousness.

Valve also created a successful version of Portal 2 controlled with players' eyeballs, but it was necessary to separate aiming and viewpoint - where your eyes are looking and where your head is facing - for that to work properly.

The Steam Box will host some sort of biometric scheme, Newell said in that March interview.

"What we've found is you can directly measure player state and it turns out to be very useful," Newell said. "You need to be able to directly measure how aroused the player is, what their heart rate is, things like that, in order to continue to offer them a new experience each time they play."

This patch let's you change the order in which types of jobs are performed. For example, previously gnomes would always perform jobs created directly by the player before say from a workshop. Now, per profession, you can set the order of those job types. Individual jobs of the same type are still prioritized as they were before, whether by distance to the job or the priority setting of the workshop, farm, grove, pasture or stockpile. Jobs that are directly created have been split up into 4 groups:

Mining - mine wall, dig stairs, etc
Agriculture - Fell tree, forage, etc
Build - Build workshop, furniture, etc
Mechanic - Reset trap, flip lever, etc

As an example, you could create 2 professions with Woodcutting and Carpentry enabled. One profression has Agriculture first and the other has Workshop as the highest priority. Gnomes in the first profession would act as before and fell trees before cutting planks while the other profession would do the opposite. Splitting up your workforce this way will allow you to work on both tasks simultaneously and let some gnomes act as "backup" and work on another task if their main one is finished.

General
• Added option to change the priority of job type per profession
• Added a tool tip when assigning a profession to a gnome in the population window, which displays that gnomes skills relevant to the profession
• Added tool tip to display the top 5 skills of a gnome in the population window

Fixed
• Crash when deconstructing a wall at the top of the map
• Crash when building a ramp, stairs or incline at the top of the map
• Crash with a civillian has a uniform with a ranged weapon and is trying to refill ammo
• Crash when firing a ranged weapon in some cases
• Tool tips for items in a drop down list, sometimes not disappearing
• Large tool tips going beyond the borders of the screen
• Liquids not flowing when a mechanical wall is lowered
• Liquids not working properly when raised a level by a mechanical wall
