All the fun and fighting is set against an irreverent tale, filled with wacky heroes, witty dialogue and wild assumptions.

A Valley Without Wind 2 quietly blew through Steam today for PC and Mac, courtesy of indie developer Arcen Games. The sequel is 25 percent off now through February 25, for a cool $11.25.

A Valley Without Wind 2 is bundled with its predecessor, A Valley Without Wind, and is free to anyone who already owns that first game. The games will always be sold together, so the purchase price is really a two-for-one deal.

A Valley Without Wind 2 blends classic 16-bit platforming and turn-based strategy into a modern package: Think Contra meets a Metroidvania game with strategy overtones.

The launch of A Valley Without Wind 2 was purposefully engineered to fall on the softest of breezes - Arcen Games' marketing man Erik Johnson told Joystiq that the team kept this launch on the down-low because the first game was over-hyped prior to its release.

"Though this is a sequel to our 2012 release A Valley Without Wind, it's more of a spiritual one; this game is a jump like Zelda 3 was from Zelda 2," Johnson said. "While we were able to accomplish a lot with the first game, it was experimental and clearly not for everybody. So once we got our finances together for an update to the graphics, we decided to put our focus on a brand-new game that took everything that we learned while making the first game, plus many new ideas."

Those ever-so patient European can finally get their hands on Scribblenauts Unlimited when the game releases on Steam later today. 5th Cell's puzzler was initially expected in Europe on Wii U, 3DS, and PC in November, but was then pushed back to February. While the Nintendo versions endured a last-minute delay last week, Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed the PC version unlocks on Steam today at 6PM Brit-time.

The Nintendo releases, however, are still without an ETA, although a few lucky so-and-sos nabbed the Wii U version when it accidentally launched on the eShop.

In recent years, Valve hasn’t proven too terribly consistent when it comes to, well, anything (cases in point: the recent ire-inducing layoffs, allegedly being a videogame company), but it can lay claim to one spotless record: Steam sales. If there’s an occasion, you can bet crazy Newell’s game, productivity software, wearable computing, and probably soon-to-be used car emporium will be on the spot to wheel and deal. Naturally, then, Steam Linux’s triumphant exit from beta is being heralded by a gigantic, Linux-centric sale. March past the break in a manner akin to that of a penguin for details.

Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army is filling that world-war-undead void when it comes to Steam on February 28. Rebellion's self-published standalone shooter is designed for single-player or co-op for up to four players. It introduces new close-quarters weapons to Sniper Elite, like shotguns, but also falls back on the series' trademark long-distance mechanics. On the zombified side, would-be soldiers can expect to face enemies which include "roof-jumping snipers" and "Nazi suicide squads."

Nazi Zombie Army is priced at $14.99/£9.99/€10.99, but you can lop 20 percent off that if you pre-purchase it on Steam.

Best experienced on Ubuntu

Feb 14, 2013Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the release of its Steam for Linux client. In celebration of the release, over 50 Linux titles are now 50-75% off until Wednesday, February 21st at 10 AM PST.

The Steam client is now available to download for free from the Ubuntu Software Center. Ubuntu is the most popular distribution of Linux used by millions of people globally and known for its well-designed, easy-to-use customer experience.

The introduction of Steam to Ubuntu demonstrates growing demand for open systems from gamers and game developers, said David Pitkin, Director of Consumer Applications at Canonical. We expect a growing number of game developers to include Ubuntu among their target platforms. Were looking forward to seeing AAA games developed with Ubuntu in mind as part of a multi-platform day and date release on Steam.

Were huge fans of Linux. Its like the indie OSa perfect home for our indie game, said Alen Ladavac, CTO of Croteam, creator of the Serious Sam franchise of games. And who better to lead the charge into Linux gaming than Valve? With Steam distribution on Windows, Mac OS, and now Linux, plus the buy-once, play-anywhere promise of Steam Play, our games are available to everyone, regardless what type of computer theyre running. Thats huge.

Team Fortress 2, the Free to Play game, is also now available on Steam for Linux. For a limited time, Steam users who play the game on Linux will automatically receive a free, exclusive in-game item: Tux, the Linux mascot, can be carried by any of the games classes and traded between players. Additional Valve titles available on Steam for Linux include Half-Life, Counter-Strike 1.6, and Counter-Strike: Source.

In addition to games, the Steam for Linux client includes Big Picture, the new mode of Steam designed for use with a TV and game controller. With Steam for Linux and Big Picture mode, Valve anticipates a growing number of gamers will use Steam in the living room.

Steam is a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC and Mac games with over 50 million accounts around the world and over 2,000 titles offered. More details regarding Steam for Linux, including community discussion, official announcements and syndicated news can all be tracked on the Steam for Linux Community Hub at http://steamcommunity.com/linux.
