Today, the official website of actor Kane Kosugi issued a correction and apology, stating the actor wasn't starring in a prequel called Tekken - A Man Called X, but rather, a non-Tekken movie with the temp title Agent X. "We would like to apologize for the ineptitude on our part," stated Kosugi's official site. Not sure how his management company screwed that one up!Read more...

Undoubtedly, there are fans who are ecstatic to hear that Killer Instinct, the classic fighting game that came in a snazzy black cartridge back in the early 90's, is going to come back. But when the game was announced earlier this year, there also seemed to be an air of bewilderment about its revival—loved as it may be, it's not exactly the biggest or most well-known franchise, even within the fighting game scene.Read more...

Christie Monteiro and Lee Chaolan have kicked their way into Tekken Revolution, the PS3 exclusive, free-to-play adaptation of the Tekken series. Both have been added to the game's roster in a free update, which also includes "new premium effects and new costumes."

Christie and Lee bring the current playable roster to 24, with the fan-favored Female Vampire character still coming in a future update. Revolution was downloaded over two million times during its first three months, so there should be some decent competition to pit the returning fighters against.

People competed in nine different fighting games in last weekend's EVO 2013 tournament in Las Vegas. To see everything, you had to continuously switch between two streams back and forth from Friday to Sunday evening, so even hardcore fighting game fans might have missed one or two. Nine different games mean nine grand finals and we've collected all of them below (on top the Super Street Fighter IV Arcade grand finals between DM MCZ Xian and MCZ Tokido). Check them and be amazed how insanely good these players can be. Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Injustice: Gods Among Us Street Fighter X Tekken Super Smash Bros. Melee Mortal Kombat 9 (stars around 1:30:00) Persona 4 Arena Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (starts around 1:50:00) King of Fighters XIII Now with 100% more sticks destroyed. Tekken 3, way back in 1997, had plans to include a new animal character in the fighter roster—a salmon. It was quickly judged too ridiculous to justify a $1-per-play cost in an arcade. Well, Tekken Revolution is taking suggestions for new characters, and the fish is one of them. And the others are even weirder. Syake (pronounced Sha-kay) is on a list of 10 candidates in this Facebook poll, which is just downright weird. Fish-man is joined by "Zombie Bride" "Giant Praying Mantis," "Average run-of-the-mill Old Man," and "Female Paul." "For some inexplicable reason, Paul is transformed into a girl, but the appearance is of a very cute girl," says this description on the official Tekken site. "The concept was thrown out in 2 seconds, as it was too off-the-wall." I have no idea if this is all being done tongue-in-cheek or what, but the game's official Facebook page has opened the poll, and voting on it closes tomorrow. Syake's Tekken 3 concept is described as shitting out eggs with the kick buttons, with the punch buttons making it flop around, "which was quite an idea at the time." No shit. Tekkenpedia has series producer Katsuhiro Harada—no stranger to strangeness himself—confirming that: "It was really a salmon so, no matter if you press punch or kick, the character just flops around making a flapping noise." Average run-of-the-mill old man is simply "You average old man, like the one you find in almost any neighborhood," according to the site. "He is not a martial artist, so he is pretty weak. It was an idea mentioned early in the series, and thrown out the instant it was mentioned." No shit. Alright, well, let's take this at face value. The poll is open but they are not revealing results after you vote. The top three vote-getters will have concept sketches done, and then, at San Diego Comic-Con next week, a winner will be chosen by Harada and the audience at the Tekken panel. The character then will be released in Tekken Revolution, but "timing of release is TBD, as the difficulty in development of the character depends on the concept chosen." And that's important as, according to Syake's writeup "If, for some unforeseen reason, this character is actually chosen, development may be quite difficult." Takayuki Takeya is one of Japan's most talented—and unusual figure sculptors. His work is sometimes dark and even disturbing, but it's always interesting and often very cool. Recently in Tokyo, Takeya's work was on display at 3331 Arts Chiyoda. This was his first exhibit in over a decade. Have a look: Takeya might be best known for his work on Bandai's Super Imaginative Chogokin line of figurines. That, or his Revoltech Takeya series of Buddhist statues. Takeya has also done video game work, such as overseeing the Yoshimitsu design on Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Tekken Revolution was revealed earlier today by a trailer tucked away 19 minutes inside of a video segment on Gamespot. The game, which is both free-to-play and a PlayStation 3 exclusive, will be available this Tuesday, June 11. Aside from the fact that Paul, Bryan, Kazuya and Lars are all featured in the footage shown, little else is known.

Tekken ringleader Katsuhiro Harada previously dismissed an Australian Classifications Board listing for the title as being in reference to a new version of Tekken Card Tournament. That, coupled with the fact that no user interface is shown in the Revolution footage, is enough to keep us from assuming that this is a fighting game - it could just as easily be a high-def, ultra-pretty version of Namco Bandai's existing, mobile free-to-play competitive card game set in the Tekken universe.

With E3 breathing down our necks, we expect to learn more soon.
