Cartoon Network crossover fighting game hits 3DS this spring

Cartoon Network's stable of characters will make the jump to stereoscopic 3D this spring thanks to an agreement with Crave. The publisher announced a deal through which it would release an "action-packed battle game" on 3DS starring characters from various current and classic Cartoon Network shows, including Ben 10, the Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Lab, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and not Adventure Time.

Developer Papaya Studios is also working on versions of the game for Xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 for release in holiday 2011, but without the appeal of new hardware, those aren't nearly as exciting!

Apparently when you die you go back to level 1 but become stronger than before. Oh yeah, I could definitely get into this.

I really like grinding in games like this, but I never could get into it Disgaea because it took so *crag*ing long to grind each individual character.

Having just one dude to power up sounds *crag*ing great.

Reggie: Nintendo sees Apple as larger threat than Microsoft and Sony

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime wants to make sure you're not getting it twisted -- he's not competing with other game companies, but with the very concept of time itself. Speaking to Forbes recently, Fils-Aime explained that "It's all about time." Rather than just competing with the likes of Microsoft and Sony, Fils-Aime said, "I compete with Zynga, I compete with surfing the net, I compete with the newspaper." What about eating ice cream, Mr. Fils-Aime? Hmmmm?

Regardless, he does see one direct competitor to worry about: Apple. Fils-Aime rhetorically wondered, "Do I think that in the near term they can hurt us more than Microsoft? Absolutely." Though, despite astronomical sales of both the iPhone and iPod Touch, Fils-Aime believes that content will win the day, bringing up Dragon Quest IX as an example of a game that can "consume." He even pointed out that 14 of the top 20 selling games this generation originated with Nintendo.

Fils-Aime didn't point out Apple's bigger trump card -- its device does a lot more than play video games. We're confident that Nintendo isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but competing with a phone in terms of handheld sales? Not so sure about that.

When I got a bit of extra bandwidth to spare I watch Slowbeef.

raocow and batman9502 are my favorite. Slowbeef, I understand why he's pretty much an authority on Let's Play's. I would watch him more if it wasn't for Blip.tv being so dang bandwidth costly.

Phil Spencer confident in Kinect: It's 'fundamentally different' from PlayStation Move

Just a few weeks before Kinect's retail launch, Microsoft hosted an event in San Francisco to celebrate the much-anticipated new hardware. There we spoke with Microsoft Game Studios VP Phil Spencer not only about the hands-free camera peripheral, but also the company's success with the "Xbox 360 S" console refresh, Ubisoft's strong Kinect launch lineup and, of course, the PlayStation Move.

Super Mario used to pack a beam gun
OK, so our jealousy of Japan and Europe and their Super Mario Bros. collectors editions has become utterly crushing. N-Styles provides the proverbial camel-back-breaking straw with some original design docs included in the package's history book.

Not only are they so totally gorgeous that we want to lay them out on a bed and go full Indecent Proposal, but Andriasang's translation shows they're full of interesting tidbits like the fact that Mario was originally supposed to have a beam gun.

Boy, fireballs seem pretty tame now that we know how close we got to ... Mario Chief? Master Plumber? ... Sorry, give us a second, we'll come up with something.

“Parents – not retailers or game makers – should be able to decide whether or not their children can play in a world of murder and violence that often degrades women and racial minorities. The video game industry should not be allowed to put their profit margins over the rights of parents and the well-being [...]
Mandew

I guess where he's getting at is that the ERSB should be more precise about that kind of stuff? ...?

His argument confuses me a little. He states that parents SHOULD be able to tell what games their kids can play, but can't? Isn't there a reason why ERSB and its European and Japanese equivalent exists?

Report: Atlus releasing three online games in America next year
joystiq.com posted by Joystiq Oct 25 2010 02:00 GMT in Gaming News

According to a recent report from Siliconera, Atlus is planning on publishing three online titles from fellow Index Holdings-owned developer, Rosso Index, in North America early next year. The trio of games includes Pandora Saga, Master of Epic, and The Tower of Druaga -- the latter of which may sound familiar, as its an online-enabled remake of an identically titled 1984 Namco arcade game. Hopefully the remake is a little ... faster-paced than its 26-year-old counterpart.

We've contacted Atlus for confirmation of the company's plans to port the games to North American internets, and to get a few more details about them. For instance, what is a Master of Epic, and how do we become one?
