Did you know that, before the driving force of Pac-Man was named "pellets," the items were called "cookies?" I didn't either, but that's exactly what a Namco rep told me while showing off upcoming Wii minigame collection Pac-Man Party. She did this, you see, because that's what Pac-Man (and his nebulous cohorts) spend a lot of time chasing. Cookies. Also, not a single "power cookie" in sight. Madness!

Unfortunately, Pac-Man Party isn't quite as exciting as that tidbit of trivia. In fact, it's downright awful (at least the bit I played of it was). At a recent press event in NYC, I played through some of the game's party mode with the aforementioned Namco rep. We were first asked which character from the Pac-Man universe we'd like to choose.

Wait, there's a Pac-Man "universe?" Isn't it just ghosts and Mr./Ms. Pac-Man?

The original Pac-Man World for PSX was pretty fun as well. World 3? Ehh, best left collecting dust.

*sorry for it being too large*

YES, THIS IS REAL AS IT CAN GET.

Back in 1993, Michal Ancel (the creator of Rayman) had the idea of Rayman back before the Atari Jaguar and PS1 was developed.

Remember the idea with the boy named Jimmy who had to go save Hereitscool land? This is what it looked like before it was scrapped. You play as either Rayman or the other character (who's name was identified, but it is a girl.)

If you can't read French, this is the translation:

Long before the Jaguar and PlayStation versions, Michel Ancel and his team were working on Rayman for the SNES. Even if it was  in advanced development, the game was stopped in favor of the CD support. As exclusives, here are a few pictures from this aborted version.

This was actually a interview with Michel Ancel after Rayman 2 was released. He talked about this idea back when he started his years working at Ubisoft. It was in a French game magazine called Pix'N'Love.

That's all of the info gathered.

You can now rate games and write up a review.  Just go the game's profile or board and click "Review".   Select your rating (bad, good, or great) and type what you liked or didn't like about the game.

Your ratings will show up on your played/beat game lists, and you can click the "reviewed" link on a game's page to see all the reviews.

So, played any games lately?  Let us know what you thought!

Red Dead Redemption is THE Western-themed video game. While many Western-themed games have come before it, RDR offers the most complete and satisfying take on the theme, making you feel as if you're truly there, in the dying days of the Old West.

The gameplay is top-notch; it never grows old riding off in to the wild to find an animal of some sort to kill and skin, or to search for gang hide-outs and shoot up the bad guys who dwell within. Indeed, the game world is massive and is full of activity; the amount of side content and the rewarding nature of exploring the game's world will not leave you disappointed.

The game succeeds thematically, as well; each portion of the game's world is like a different Western genre, with New Austin representing the classic Old West, Nuevo Paraiso representing the darker spaghetti Western, and West Elizabeth representing a more modern take on the Western, symbolizing the death of the Old West and the birth of the modern age. And that's without mentioning the beautiful plot and excellent character development present throughout the game; John Marston isn't your typical "badass outlaw," but rather, a character that you will grow to empathize with and deeply admire throughout the course of the game.

Some would call Red Dead Redemption "GTA: Old West Edition." Well, I call it GTA perfected. Red Dead Redemption is one of those games that you have to play if you consider yourself even somewhat of a gamer.

Yeah, it does look pretty good.

- Like?

Zelda Spirit Tracks has Link, a lowly train engineer, tasked with restoring the kingdom's disappearing railroad tracks.  The ghost of Princess Zelda is your sidekick, who hopes to be reunited with her demon-possessed body.

The main quest consists of:

  1. Drive train to new temple (sometimes you have to do a side quest to get there)
  2. Beat temple to unlock next floor of the Spirit Tower.  Drive back to tower.
  3. Beat new floor by using Zelda to control Phantoms.  Unlock new tracks.
  4. Repeat 1-3

The temples and tower floors all had enjoyable puzzles offered new experiences new to Zelda.  Some classic items return, and the new items were creative and fun to use.  Thank goodness you dont have to repeat the same temple over and over like you did in Phantom Hourglass.

Driving the train is much better than the boat of Phantom Hourglass, IMO.  Instead of wandering around a vast ocean, you almost always know exactly where to go and how to get there.  You still have to actually ride the train there (which kinda feels like Pac-Man), but usually you get there quick enough to not be frustrating.  Also the wild-west-ish music is catchy.

My biggest gripe is that the gameplay is a little too linear.  There are a few side-quests, but most of them seems to involve collecting stuff and shuttling cargo around the map.  Being restricted to railroad tracks doesn't leave much for exploration.  All the towns are very small with only a few buildings and people.  Maybe a linear adventure is better suited for a portable system, but hopefully the Zelda series is not eventually reduced to just a collection of dungeons.

Bottom line: Zelda:ST improves on Zelda:PH in every way.  It's worth playing just to see the charming interactions between Link and Zelda.

I SEE SOME RAPE ACTION

Amazingly, some people don't get a game the day it comes out, or can beat it in a few days. I probably could have left out the game description stuff, but eh, whatever.

I can tell you right now this would've entertained me when I was 5 just because of the novelty of it being Mario.
