GamePro, we reported exclusively back in July, shifted its strategy to become a quarterly publication. That experiment, sadly did not work too well, as we've now learned that the November quarterly issue will be the last one ever, and the GamePro website will be shuttered as well (as of December 5). An IDG spokesman told IndustryGamers that the ad dollars just weren't there, and unfortunately layoffs of staff are being implemented - the spokesman declined to tell us how many were being let go.

Full report here

Don't think we have GamePro over here in the UK, so this is news to me.

I read their editorial about why they hate the Vita. All they talked about were smartphones. Not even smartphones in general, they referred to them by name. It's almost like they hate games in general. I bet /v/ is mourning their loss.

But with a twist

For a long time I have wanted to put a build challange server up.

For those of you who havent read my previous posts, the idea is that I set a theme and a time limit (ranging from 1 week to a whole month depending on what the build is.) and by the end of that time limit I would do a live stream going throuhg all of the build site and showing off all the work.

Of course you could just go off and do your own thing, but build challanges would be alot of fun.

The challanges would be very vauge, like instead of saying zelda build I would have it be mideval fantasy some people could get really creative, or something along those lines I dunno. Anyways What do you all think, would you play on a build challange server?

Apparently, this is the board game. Even if I never will own this game, the suspense to what is in there is killing me.

Anybody else who has the soundtrack CD, is the track information wrong for you guys? I'm seeing 5 of the 8 tracks with wrong titles, the remaining three blank and all of it under the artist 'Batphone' with the year 2008. The tracks themselves match the official tracklist, but I'm suprised the CD has the wrong information on it.

Edit: Alternatively this could be Media Player and/or Zune messing with me, I'm looking into that now.

Edit2: Media Player is indeed messing around, disregard.

I've played  uncharted 3 arkham city and now skyward sword, and I like skyward sword the most by far.

Its game of the year in my book but thats just me, what do you all think?

Suggestion: Play more than three games before declaring one of the games you just happened to play GOTY. You haven't played Dark Souls, Saints Row the Third, Skyman, or Human Revolution, and they are all also considered excellent games. You automatically write them off as worse than Skyward Sword just because you haven't played them. It is possible that Skyward Sword is, in fact, better than those,  but how can you tell without playing those other games?

Dark Souls is GOTY, Portal 2 and Skyward Sword are runners up.

OC ReMix revisits the grand history of Zelda with a new tribute and remix album, "25YEARLEGEND." The project draws together 18 experienced indie musicians, including the producer of Minecraft's tunes to spelunk by. It's available as a free download here.

Even though Zelda's music has been remixed umpteen times in successive games, this buoyant compilation surprises with a few creative interpretations, and a good selection of the most sacred songs. We've placed two of our favorites after the break.

If you listen to the whole album, keep an ear out for a cameo by an infamous Nintendo commercial.

We've known for awhile now that Adventure Island was heading to the North American 3DS Virtual Console, but we still don't have a date. At least we have some indication of the impending release, as the eShop itself now lists the title as 'coming soon'. Let's hope that 'soon' is next week!

This isn’t PC gaming news so much as general internet nerding, but it’s a lovely thing nonetheless. I have to admit that I haven’t seen the Google homepage in months, so I wouldn’t have realised that the current logo is an extraordinary interactive Google doodle game thing, had John not alerted me. How did he know? Well, there are a lot of tubes from all round the world leading to his office. He was probably peering down them. [Actually my wife told me - John] Anyway, the new doodle is the tale of a meeting of robots, and has been put up in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the first publication by brilliant sci-fi author, Stanislaw Lem. Lem is best know for Solaris, which was made into movies by Tarkovsky and Soderburgh, but his influence on sf generally has been enormous, thanks to his prolific and insightful writing and amazing short stories. You should definitely have a read of some of his stuff, if you haven’t already. (The art in the logo is inspired by Lem illustrator, Daniel Mrózh, who illustrated a version of The Cyberiad. Which now, I learn, was even turned into an opera!)

Saw this myself earlier. Fairly good one in my opinion.

A first-person horror/suspense sort of thing. The game takes place in a series of interconnected rooms, each with 3-4 doors and with multiple ways to get from one location in the map to another. In order to complete the game you need to complete a number of objectives to unlock the exit (such as finding fuel for a generator that opens the last door), which will have you zig-zagging around the level trying to find and use various objects that are lying around. The only other thing in the level is a single NPC monster that randomly wanders the various rooms. When the monster is nearby the lights in the room will begin to flicker, when it is in an adjacent room and/or is about to enter your room the lights will go out completely. The monster then projects a sort of searchlight that it uses to look around the room - if you get caught in this searchlight you die instantly, but if you manage to hide from the monster it will just move on into another room. It can also hear objects if they are knocked about and can hear the player if you move without crouching or walking slowly, at which point it will actively start hunting the player in and around the area it heard the noise (if it finds nothing after a certain time, it will return to its neutral state and continue wandering). This could allow the player to throw items across the room to distract the monster, giving them enough time (hopefully) to escape. Since the player will be hiding whenever the monster is nearby they likely won't get a clear look at it, which may add to the atmosphere of the game.

Something like this may have been done before, but if it has I hadn't heard of it. This is mostly the culmination of a few days of random daydreaming, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to make something like this or even if it would be any good as a game. Still, comments are welcome.

Doopliss

Minus the insta-death and the ambiguous appearance of the monster it sounds pretty much like the Tower of Spirits in Spirit Tracks

Laying the groundwork for modders I suppose.
