With most street savvy gamers expecting Modern Warfare 2 to be one of the biggest -- if not the biggest -- releases of 2009, it's not too surprising to learn that Infinity Ward has Avatar items in the works. According to IW's fourzerotwo, AKA community guru Robert Bowlling, the company is preparing some items for Xbox 360 Avatars, adding that some of them will "hopefully" be free. On the same subject, Bowling notes that he's "not sure" whether the game will include any unlockable Avatar Awards. That's unfortunate, as we've yet to see a single game use the Avatar Awards feature -- even the those that have been confirmed to support it.

Xbox Live Arcade is heavy on the ampersands this week as both Axel & Pixel and the second season of Sam & Max (subtitled Beyond Time and Space, according to the ESRB) will be landing on Microsoft's download service. Both are games of the adventuring persuasion, requiring players to traverse the game world and solve puzzles, performing actions by pointing and / or clicking. Yes, you read that correctly, two adventure games in one week. It's like the 80s all over again. Axel & Pixel will set you back 800 ($10). Meanwhile, Sam & Max tops out at the most you should ever pay for a computer game. Also known as 1600 ($20).

When you get home with your gigantic DJ Hero Renegade Edition box, make sure to get everything out of it. We know the temptation to just unfold the case/table thing and start playing the game with that kind of irresistible-looking novelty controller will be overwhelming, but if you turn the package over and shake it, exclusive greatest-hits CDs from Jay-Z and Eminem will fall out.Rolling Stone got the full list of tracks on both sets. Jay-Z's disc sticks exclusively to past hits, but Eminem's includes a brand-new song, "Taking My Ball." That's right, the "unreleased tracks" mentioned on the box is really unreleased track. And it'll premiere on Eminem's Sirius radio station over a week before the game comes out, so it's more like no unreleased tracks. After the break, as a reminder, we've included the full list of the songs in the actual game. Tired of waiting in unbearable queues while trying to access the games embedded in PlayStation Home's virtual territories? A couple of new additions may reduce your abeyance -- according to 1UP, the social platform will receive new areas based on Uncharted 2 and Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, both of which will include fairly robust minigames. The Ratchet space will include a four-player Tower Defense game, while the Uncharted space introduces "Fortunate Thieves," a competitive game that pits two players against one another in a hectic treasure hunt. Okay, so you'll still probably have to wait in line to try these games out -- however, there'll be plenty of diversions in these two areas to keep you busy in the interim. For instance, the Ratchet space allows you to travel in time, changing the landscape of the zone, as well as the enemies featured in the aforementioned Tower Defense game. No release date has been given on the arrival of these new territories, but with Uncharted 2 hitting stores tomorrow, and A Crack in Time releasing later this month, we're guessing they'll appear in a soon-ish manner.

Those anxious to get their hands on some digital wares will only find three games available this week -- so in the interest of keeping this train a-chuggin' along, let's get to the details.

In an interview with The Washington Post's Mike Musgrove, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime handily dismissed the DS's competition, suggesting either that he doesn't feel threatened at all, or he feels really threatened (and the history of DS sales makes us more likely to believe the former interpretation). He said that the newly launched, download-only PSP Go has a "fundamental concept problem in terms of 'Who's it for?' and 'What's the benefit?'" He added that he has the "utmost respect for all our competitors, but it's interesting to try and answer the consumer question of 'What's in it for me?' in that product."As for the other major competition in the handheld space? When discussing the DS's advantages over the iPhone/iPod Touch platform, Fils-Aime made the surprising move of referring to a third-party game, namely Scribblenauts. "That's a fabulous experience that can only be brought to life on the DS." Honestly, it probably could be done on iPhone, but it hasn't and probably won't, which is just as good for Nintendo.

Fact: Ready at Dawn has never made a bad game. Sure, the company's repertoire, which includes Daxter and God of War: Chains of Olympus for PSP and Okami for Wii, is limited. Still, look at those games. Not exactly the worst developer to take a cue from, right? Soon, developers large and small will be able to do just that when Ready at Dawn releases its own game development platform for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP, appropriately titled the Ready at Dawn Engine. (How delightfully narcissistic!) The new engine will attempt to set itself apart from competing middleware services by offering a one-stop shop for cross-platform game development, merging its "proprietary code-base with the top providers of 3D content editing, audio, user interface and asset management systems." We suggest checking out Gamasutra's recent interview with Dawn co-founder Didier Malenfant to learn about the brazenness required to inspire a company, with three games under its belt, to make its own game-crafting engine.

There are few things we hate bearing more than bad news, but, well, it's kind of our job. So, here we go: Hey Champ. Remember how excited you got when you heard the UK Xbox site had listed a release date for the 360 Fall Dashboard Update, which will bring Facebook, Twitter and a whole slew of other services to the platform? Yeah, November 17 -- that's the one! Well, it looks like Microsoft has decided to strip the site of its specificity. Now, it simply reads "service launches Autumn 2009," just like all the other regional Xbox sites. Aww, come on, Sport. Dry those tear-flooded eyes. The update may still come on Nov. 17, but now it'll be a big surprise. Don't you love surprises? Well, here's one: You're adopted. Makes that whole "disappearing release date" thing seem pretty trivial, doesn't it? Oh, man, you're really crying now. Fine, we'll contact Microsoft to see what's going on. Just ... just don't tell your mother about the whole "adopted" thing.

All the block-rockin' beats in Lego Rock Band have been revealed, with Warner Bros. also confirming upcoming DLC and a song exporting feature. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will have the option to download "all of the songs in the Rock Band Music Store that have been identified to be suitable for all ages." Only songs deemed appropriate will appear within the Lego Rock Band Store and the game should "highlight" any newly added "family-friendly" tracks. The Lego Rock Band disc export will cost $9.99 (800) and transfer all tracks from the Lego disc for use on the regular Rock Band platform. It appears to work in the same way as the conversion of the original Rock Band disc. Check out the full set list for the console and DS versions of Lego Rock Band after the break.

The confusion over whether or not BioWare's second space opera, Mass Effect 2, is coming to the PlayStation 3 has been a fiasco of epic proportions. We've heard plenty of rumor and speculation supporting both sides of the heated debate, but as the game's release draws nearer, more savory indications of the game's possible Sony-bound trajectory have surfaced -- namely, a listing on the EA Russia site for a PS3 version of the upcoming RPG. Gaming news site Just Push Start also noticed the PS3 installment on the site of an Australian game retailer called, appropriately, GAME. We put more stock in the EA Russia listing, though we suppose the publishing giant is no stranger to sending mixed signals when speaking about the exclusivity of the Mass Effect series. We've contacted EA and BioWare to find out what the deal is. Update: As some of you already guessed, the "deal" is that the EA Russia listing was, in fact, erroneous. The PS3 listing for Mass Effect 2 (and Left 4 Dead 2, which we didn't notice) has been removed from the site.

With Bayonetta out in Japan on October 29, Sega is beginning to market the game aggressively with (of course) the downloadable demo, but also a new Japanese TV commercial (after the break) featuring the debut of the theme, "Something Missing" by MiChi. Will the Japanese audience respond to a woman in an undulating hair suit fighting demons? Brief footage of a real model dressed as Bayonetta couldn't hurt, though the crowd at Tokyo Game Show suggested the game doesn't really need help drawing attention.Meanwhile, Platinum Games may be trying to divert some of that attention toward Sega. Not only does the (slightly less visually appealing) PS3 demo include a "Converted by Sega" screen in the introduction, Famitsu's infobox for the game was updated in the last issue to include "PS3 port developer: Sega." Either Platinum asked for those notices, or Sega's really proud of the work it's done.
