If Xbox gamers feel betrayed enough to destroy their discs and burn magazines over the PS3 port of Tales of Vesperia, how are they going to react to news that costumes from Vesperia are also no longer exclusive, appearing in the Wii's Tales of Graces? Will they stand for this minor outrage?Given away as a download code on a pre-order bonus DVD, the costumes enable players to dress Aspel, Sophie, and Cheria as Yuri, Patty, and Rita. Look forward to some angry message board posts featuring a spurned gamer giving a ruthless thumbprint to his Xbox disc, or throwing it straight in the garbage, then pulling it out and cleaning it.[Via Andriasang]

How tough are the badasses of Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble? So tough that they can look intimidating in banana costumes, as demonstrated in these new screenshots. Not convinced? These dudes are so hardcore that the game's release date was moved up to face off with Modern Warfare 2. You have to be pretty ice cold to stand against that as a niche PSP game. We respect that.Atlus sent an email detailing the game's inventory system, which is pretty simple: every item of clothing includes a certain number of pockets, up to a total of eight per complete outfit. Which means you have to be super tough to take on rival gangs in just your undies, because not only would that be really embarrassing to anyone but the most confident of fighters, you can't carry healing items.

Aside from providing a venue for a wonderfully childish gender bending game, PlayStation Home initially failed to offer PlayStation 3 users much of a playground. But the various Home spaces and minigames implemented by third-party developers have changed Sony's thinking, according to platform director Jack Buser: "In the early days when we built Home, we really were building a social network for gamers ... through that, over the last year, it's developed into a game platform, first and foremost."Speaking at a San Francisco meeting -- documented in detail by Gamasutra -- Buser described Home-based games as a "low-risk and high-margin" opportunity for developers. "Home is a high definition environment where you can create extremely polished games but with very rapid development cycles," he explained. "You can have small teams of developers -- a couple of engineers and a few artists -- crank out very sophisticated social gaming experiences in very small amounts of time."Buser also highlighted the value of community input in the "evolution" of Home, though he didn't indicate whether Sony had also stopped listening to that guy in the office who's really into Snow Crash. But even that guy might see the sense in Sony's vision, which is "about social, repeatable, fun, and dynamic games that are always changing and being fun for people." We haven't seen the "killer app" yet (we're still waiting in line), but renovating Home into a social games platform -- even if it's built atop the PS3's actual game platform -- seems like a much better use of all that segmented real estate.

Filed under: X3F TV We've got two click-em-ups up for grabs this week. One -- Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space -- is a buddy comedy fueled by crime, conversation and jokes, while the other -- Axel & Pixel -- is a puzzle solving affair rendered with bright colors and quirky animation. We're not sure what we did to deserve two point-and-click adventure games this week but, frankly, we're not going to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially considering these aren't gifts at all. No, they cost real money. 1600 in the case of Sam & Max, and 800 for Axel & Pixel. Indie developer Alientrap's Capsized has certainly captured our attention with its art style. IndieGames took note of the title and its early footage, which is giving off an Exile and Metroid vibe, but its lush setting and arcade-like action certainly appears to separate it from that pack. The game is planned for a 2010 launch on Steam and XBLA. We're currently following up with the Alientrap more details about the game, which is currently seeking play testers on PC. Check out the first trailer, which isn't shy on the gameplay footage, after the break. [Via GameSetWatch]

The pairing of Tetris with the Game Boy may very well have been Nintendo’s most valuable move in their entire history of video games. This bundle cemented Nintendo as the frontrunner in portable gaming, which is a position that they hold to this very day. I don’t think the same would have happened [...]

Creat Studios, which has done several PSN titles at this point, will unleash Mushroom Wars on the PS3 this Thursday, October 15. The PixelJunk Monsters-looking RTS has players controlling adorable armies that will slaughter each other in that endless pursuit for control of land, with mushroom bases being the staging ground for the next assault. Some may say Mushroom Wars' premise and cutesy art don't mix, but after watching the Critter Crunch creatures feed each other through rainbow vomit, we don't know if there is a line anymore between cute and disturbing.Gallery: Mushroom Wars (PSN)

If Crytek's, like, next next-gen-ready CryEngine 3 performs even half as well as advertised, then the tears are gonna flow -- tears of joy. Imagine an engine through which a developer, using a single editor and dev PC, can create and test a game for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 ... at the same time. (You don't even have to imagine it, actually; there's a video after the break!) That's the picture Crytek's painting as it today releases its third iteration of the CryEngine for license to third-party developers. As promised in the press release: CryEngine 3 features real-time conversion and optimization of assets and cross-platform changes that "significantly" reduce the risk (and headache) of multiplatform development."With its scalable graphics and computation it is next-gen-ready and with new features like CryEngine 3 Live Create the best choice for game developers and companies developing serious games applications alike," trumpets Crytek boss Cevat Yerli. "It is the only game engine solution that enables real-time development and can ensure teams are able to maximize their own creativity, save budget and create greater gaming experiences."Okay. So what's it cost?
