Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto may not play many of his competitor's games, but he does see a future where games like LittleBigPlanet will become increasingly commonplace. After demoing a few levels from the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii, we asked Miyamoto if he'd ever consider giving everyday players the tools to make their own Mario levels. "This is an area that I have a lot of interest in, and I think that the side-scrolling Mario games in particular are well suited to that idea," Miyamoto said (as translated by Bill Trinnen).Miyamoto then pointed to previous Nintendo works in an attempt to prove his openness towards the idea. "Of course the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series is one that's made in North America by NST, but it's one that I've been involved in and from early on. We did have a lot of discussions about how to enable that kind of level creation in that series. And of course, more recently on Nintendo DSi, we have released Flipnote Studio, which is another kind of utility or tool-type of software that's really about letting users let their creation out and share it with others."Neither examples have the depth or scope of what we wanted Miyamoto to do: Confirm a LBP-esque community-driven Mario platformer. As implausible as that may sound, Miyamoto reiterated his interest, and admitted that the future will see more of these kinds of games. "And I think those types of interactive experiences are going to continue to broaden and we'll see a lot more user-generated content going forward. I've always had an interest in those kinds of creative tools, so I will definitely be open to ideas like that in the future."

Nintendo’s Vitality Sensor…what a weird contraption. What games are going to take advantage of this? You can be sure that Nintendo is going to come out with some sort of new-age, expanded audience approach to gaming that will be the showcase software for this title…but what other games are going to exploit this [...]

The PSN update returns this week with another game that looks adorable and safe, yet conceals some disturbing ideas. Mushroom Wars looks beautiful and innocent, but like any good RTS, it's all about exterminating the competition. Genocide isn't supposed to be cute. This comes following Capybara's Critter Crunch, last week's "cute, yet disturbing game," and remember Fat Princess? That wasn't all that long ago either. We're sensing a theme ... a theme we can't help but put money down on. Check out the full PSN update after the break. Choose your platform to view the corresponding release list: (Note: Continue past the break to view both release lists.)

Modern Warfare 2 will not be without some form of co-op. The game features Spec Ops mode, a mission-based multiplayer experience that supports up to two players via local split-screen or online. Infinity Ward initially had planned to offer co-op throughout the game's main campaign, but decided the overall experience ultimately suffered because of it.Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling told VG247 that co-op in the main campaign "really broke the cinematic experience, took the immersion out of it, out of the story and the pacing and everything we'd spent so long crafting." Bowling also said it "ruined the experience" that Infinity Ward was aiming for, forcing the developer to redirect those efforts into polishing the campaign as an exclusively single-player experience. We'll all find out if the game is better off for it -- some in night-vision goggles -- come November 10.

Borderlands is working its art style to the max -- so strange to look back at the original design now -- in this TV spot for the FPS-RPG lovechild. And how about all that actual gamepley footage, huh? Imagine selling a game based on that ... How risqué!With five days to go until launch, the game's success is one of the bigger question marks this holiday season. Thankfully, for Borderlands' sake, so many big games have left the arena that a new IP (no, not internet protocol) just might stand a better-than-average chance in the marketplace. At the very least, the box art is sure to grab attention on retail shelves. Go on, Claptrap, we believe in you.

Looks like Spyborgs has been a bit of a bomb. This time around, I don’t really feel bad for a game seeing a price drop, as I don’t think too highly of the title. Still, it’s a tad sad to see the game get so little time on the shelves, yet already need [...]

Hey, look, it's Metal Slug ... er ... oh, right, Double X. (Sorry, had to study the sprites.) Anyway, earlier this month we brought you first word of the game -- now it's been rated by the ESRB (T for "Teen," specifically) which, as we all know, is a prelude to games being announced for domestic release. The game's publisher is listed as SNK Corporation of America itself, seemingly indicating a digital download-only future for the title. That's fine by us -- as long as it doesn't go the way of the M.I.A. PSP minis. Seriously, where are they? Metal Slug XX hits Japan in December, so we'd expect it to roll ashore here in early 2010.

Look, if you're going to listen to anyone's advice on how to play Brütal Legend's Stage Battle mode online, it should probably be the dude who opened the Necronomicon and uttered those magical words that summoned the disc from the depths of hell, right? Designer Tim Schafer has posted a fairly comprehensive set of tips for the game's strategic battles on the Double Fine blog, hoping to alleviate the frustrations of those still getting the hang of commanding the armies of rock.It feels a little defensive -- and is keen to point out how leaping into the action with Eddie Riggs sets the game apart from a traditional real-time strategy title -- but it might just help smooth out some of the rock opus' rockier segments. And hey, isn't it nice of a developer to offer a helping hand? We asked the Demon's Souls designers for advice and they sent over a wrestler to break our spines.

Ubisoft is releasing COP: The Recruit, its open-world, openly derivative DS cop game, on November 3. To promote the upcoming release, Ubisoft sent out this new trailer that shows off not only the impressive 3D found in the title, but the impressive variety of gameplay. There are shooting segments, interactions with security cameras and other equipment, and, of course, the combination of on-foot and driving gameplay found in a certain other series.Like always, however, we take issue with the use of a tiny, floating DS to display this gameplay footage. Seeing one screen at a time is preferable to the extreme zoom-out -- and if you have to show the whole DS, please hold it still! We're trying to look at the game you're showing us.

Many Halo fans were not pleased to hear that the BR55HB SR Battle Rifle had been cut from the Halo 3: ODST. Like, seriously unhappy. Thanks to Halo.Bungie.Org. we're pleased to report that the hardest of all hardcore weapons was actually included in the game after all. Unfortunately, the weapon only shows up in a cut scene. You'll need quick eyes -- or the pause button -- to see it, but it's definitely there, wielded by an NMPD officer at the end of the NMPD HQ mission. Well, he wields it up until a Brute Chieftain uses the officer's gray matter as hammer lubricant, anyway. No, you can't use it, but at least you get a badass pistol to compensate for it, right?
