Nintendo Europe head Laurent Fischer notes that WiiWare is a good place for developers to get products "tested" before going to retail. Speaking with Develop, he says that using WiiWare as a "laboratory" will help developers "polish their software through the WiiWare experience. That is going to provide sales."We're actually not aware of too many WiiWare titles that have made the transition to retail, but we can think of a few that might deserve the extra exposure. A Bit.Trip pack, anyone?[Via IndustryGamers]

Rockstar is throwing some support behind PSP's digital distribution initiative and has added several titles in with today's PSN update, with more soon to follow. The initial offering included Manhunt 2 ($29.99), Midnight Club L.A. Remix ($19.99) and Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition ($19.99). 1UP reports that soon the entire Grand Theft Auto PSP line-up (including Chinatown Wars at launch) will make its way to the PSN, along with The Warriors and Beaterator. The publisher also plans to launch a Rockstar storefront on October 22, just to show it's as serious about supporting PSP digital distribution as a guy sticking a gun in your face and stealing your car.

Over at IndustryGamers, everyone's favorite video game predicterer (we're still working on that one) Michael Pachter has taken the reigns of the site and offers his own extensive diatribe on the future of Sony and Microsoft's upcoming new tech: Project Natal and the PlayStation Motion Controller (rumored to be called Sphere). Pachter's assertion is that price will be Natal's biggest selling point and Microsoft will try to expand upon its market of established Xbox 360 owners by offering the device for $50. For Sony's doodad, Pachter says the company is "trying to create an answer to the success of the Wii." Pachter even likens the future state of a Natal-enabled Xbox 360 to the current state of the iPhone -- with features like Twitter, Netflix, Last.fm and Facebook inside Microsoft's box and its intuitive inteface, he says casual or non-playing members of Xbox 360 households will become interested. And then when it's bundled with all new Xbox 360s, he says that'll expand Microsoft's reach even more. The PlayStation Motion Controller has a steeper hill to climb up to release, as Pachter notes his belief that more hardware will cause Sony to demand more cash for the set-up. He predicts the price will be over $100, though stresses that both Microsoft and Sony need to keep "the consumer's cost relatively low in order to achieve broad penetration." We'd tell you to get your mind out of the gutter, but we know it's already in one -- pervert.

click to make big-grrr! Gearbox and 2K Games have wasted no time in announcing the first DLC for Borderlands. Heck, the game itself won't even be released until October 20. Still, we now know that, later this year, players will be able to set out for new (but unlikely to be fresh-smelling) adventures on ... The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.Admission to this delightfully named locale has already been priced at $9.99 for PS3 and Games for Windows, 800 ($10) on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Given 2K's timing, we fully expect Borderlands 2 to be announced next Monday.Update: Fixed Zed to Ned. Dr. Zed is another character in the game.

We've all heard the complaint, and most of us have thought it ourselves: New Super Mario Bros. Wii looks great, and we appreciate the new multiplayer focus and all, but you just can't easily use the box as a coin bank. And that's a shame. Well, there ain't no shame in UK retailer GAME, who is taking preorders on a Limited Tin Edition of the game. The Tin Edition comes in a rather fetching tin case, with a slot at the top that makes it suitable for use as a bank. It'll be out in Europe on the same November 20 date as the normal edition, for 49.99. The regular, non-tin version is currently on the site for 34.99.
