Just as Veteran's Day comes to a close, it appears Infinity Ward has finally been able to get the online infrastructure stable for the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2. It appears the third party-powered servers simply couldn't handle the overwhelming demand following the game's launch. Makes sense: it did sell close to a zillion copies. "We expect smooth skies ahead," IW's Robert Bowling stated in a recent tweet. That is, unless all of you rush to your PS3s again now that multiplayer is working yet again. Remember, though: this is simply a server-side fix that allows you to play multiplayer. The party system still won't work until a patch, planned for release on Friday.Like many Joystiq commenters have pointed out, we're hoping this closure means the end of Modern Warfare 2 stories for a while. Hopefully we can keep this tag closed for at least a few days, before people start murmuring about the inevitable DLC to come.[Thanks to everyone that sent this in!]

You might expect Dawn of Heroes, a tactical, turn-based RPG from Wicked Studios and Majesco, to be super serious. It seems games in this genre seldom stray into the territory of slapstick and humorous banter, but here's Dawn of Heroes, doing just that -- and doing it well!

Kuribo’s Shoe/Boot is never going to come back, is it? Neither is the Tanooki Suit, the cape…or any of the old-school power-ups, besides the Fire Flower. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Fire Flower. I just happen to love all the others listed much more!

EA has pushed up the release of its upcoming Madden NFL Arcade downloadable game, just in time for when you're lounging around in a tryptophan-included daze. Like NHL Arcade 3 on 3 before it, PS3 owners will get early access to the game: it'll be available Tuesday November 24th on PlayStation Network and Wednesday, November 25th on Xbox LIVE Arcade for $14.99 and 1200, respectively. Unlike its retail counterpart, NFL Arcade doesn't attempt to recreate the sport with any level of "realism." The field is much smaller and players will have to get touchdowns within four tries (no way to get a first down). The various power-ups, coupled with the smaller field, will make for much faster games and much higher scores. Its also likely to become one of the best-selling downloadable games ever, and from what we hear, EA really could use the cash.

[Update 11/12/09: Well, that didn't take long. Though Microsoft may not have known yesterday, Hard Drive Transfer Kits are back in stock today! As in, right now. So, if you need one, or had been told to "use your own hard drive" you may want to give 'em a call at 1-800-4MY-XBOX and get yourself squared away.] If the recent price drop has encouraged you to hedge your bets and replace your aging, bound-to-die Xbox 360 with a quiet, new, Jasper-equipped 120GB Elite, you'll want to pay attention. As relayed to us by tipster Paolo, and confirmed by a Microsoft representative, the Hard Drive Transfer Kit - which is currently available for eligible consumers by calling 1-800-4MY-XBOX - is "out of stock at the moment" and the company does "not know when inventories will be restored." Of course, it's "working on resolving this shortage as quickly as possible" but in the interim, if you want to get data of your old 'box and you didn't buy the 120GB drive at retail (which comes with the HDD transfer kit) Microsoft Support recommends that you "use your old hard drive." Not the most elegant solution, especially if you're trying to unload that old Xbox. We've asked Microsoft to clarify when we might expect the Kits to be restocked and we'll share with you if and when we hear back.

Infinity Ward has released the 1.03 patch for Modern Warfare 2 a day earlier than expected. The 15MB download finally fixes the party system, allowing players to properly invite friends for multiplayer sessions. With last night's server fix and today's patch release, we can finally say Modern Warfare 2 is working exactly the way it should have. Sure, it took three days after the game's launch, but better late than never, right? [Thanks, Jason C.!]

We didn't have to wait long after the Japanese release of Shadow Walker to hear news of a localized version. Game Arts opened a site for The Magic Obelisk, as the puzzle adventure will be known, though it bears a 'TBA' release date. Two trailers have been translated to English (and are available after the break), making the shadow path creation gameplay even easier to understand -- and explaining the story, kind of: "Experiencing meaningful encounters and partings ... a pair of spirits travel through the world to find the meaning of existence." Sounds ... deep, for a game about a little boy and a fairy pushing rocks around. The game's info page makes it a bit more concrete: Lukus is a tree spirit who wants to find the perfect place to become a tree "to find to help somebody in the world," and a light spirit named Popo travels with him. Now that sounds more like a video game premise.

We've known for a while that Gamestop is anxious to fend off irrelevance by getting into the digital game. The company has laid out a plan (with points and everything) and hired someone to head up the effort, but we're not sure this latest step is entirely positive. As reported by The Cut Scene, GameStop COO Paul Raines told attendees of the BMO Capital Markets conference how the company planned to put DLC kiosks in its stores next year, allowing people to buy additional content as they buy the full game. We understand why the company is scrambling to be involved with digital delivery. Honestly, we do. But the first time some well-meaning Gamestop employee asks us if, in addition to buying the game, we'd also like to purchase the rest of the game, we're going to up-sell his name tag into his nostril.
