Apparently it's not good enough to simply dispatch enemies these days. No, in these modern times, one must also torture them before they die. At least, that would appear to be the stance of Platinum Games' Bayonetta. The latest video released for the game explains the magic system. In short, landing successive blows on enemies without being struck fills the magic bar, allowing Bayonetta to unleash some particularly nasty finishing moves. For example she can summon a guillotine, stomp a foe's head right onto the chopping block and then drop the blade with a snap of her fingers. Or, if you're not really a traditionalist, you can opt for the giant, spiked wheel of death. Your choice. See the video after the break.

To think that Luigi started out as nothing more than a palette-swapped Mario is a bit sad, isn’t it?! Now everyone knows who Luigi is, but has he ever really gotten his dues? Isn’t it time for him to have a platforming adventure, instead of a vacuum- wrangling outing? Luigi: A life in the [...]

Last week, Square Enix announced a new entry in Taito's long-dormant Lufia(or Estpolis) series for an unknown platform. As it turns out, it's not entirely new, though enough is being changed that it might as well be. The new Lufia is, in fact, a remake of 1995's Lufia II, redone in 3D for the DS. According to IGN's summary of a Famitsu article, that's not the only change. The game is now an action RPG instead of a turn-based game -- with combo-based attacks, and the ability to launch enemies into the air, as well as switch party members mid-combo. In addition, it will be fully voice acted. Estpolis will be released in Japan on February 25.

When the PSP Go was first announced, Sony focused much of its promotion of the new digital distribution model on one upcoming title for the portable platform: LittleBigPlanet. Unfortunately, those who bought a Go with visions of downloadable Sackboys dancing in their heads are probably feeling awfully jilted at the moment. See, though the UMD version of the game has been available since yesterday, the customizable platformer still hasn't hopped onto the PlayStation Store. Sony acknowledged the game's non-arrival on a PlayStation.Blog post earlier today. SCEA's Eric Levine later explained in an email to us that though the company planned on a simultaneous UMD/PSN release, unforeseen problems have delayed the game's downloadable iteration. However, Sony technicians "are working on solving that as we speak." We'll keep you updated as to when you Go-getters out there can join in the LittleBigFestivities.

Dutch developer Codeglue has announced that its XBLA title, Rocket Riot, has won the Best Visual Design Award from the Dutch Game Awards, which were held last week in Amsterdam. What makes the revelation particularly impressive is the competition, namely Guerrilla Games' Killzone 2. Yeah, that Killzone 2. The game was also nominated for Best Audio and Best Original Gameplay. We can certainly attest to Rocket Riot's unique visuals. The game use a 3D engine modeled to look like classic 8-bit games, utilizing backgrounds and characters with jagged edges made to resemble pixels. And let's not forget the copious, pixelated explosions either. See it for yourself in the video above and the screens below. And, of course, you could always give it a try. Just be sure to do it with friends.

They (media groups) want the sensationalism. They will broadcast anytime there’s a shooting; they will find people that have a very specific, loud, sensational, fearful opinion of it, and they will give them prime airtime. If you add up those minutes of airtime it’s actually a fair amount of penetration into the public mind. But then, [...]
