Japan was due to see RPG Maker DS release on January 28th, 2010, but that date is now a distant dream. It has been confirmed that the title is now going to be pushed back to March 11th, 2010. The reason for the delay was to improve quality. Let’s hope the wait [...]
With the launch of Assassin's Creed 2 today, Ubisoft has officially lifted the veil on its Achievement/Trophy-like "Uplay" program. First revealed at E3 (though minimally detailed), Ubisoft claims it to be an "online destination where gamers are at the center of a connected gaming universe," intended to link all Ubisoft titles across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Players can access the Uplay portal through the web or in-game, with AC2 being the first title to include the still-in-beta service.
Of the "four primary services" Uplay includes - titled "Win," "Help," "Share" and "shop" - only Uplay Win is currently available in the beta. Ubisoft explains Uplay Win as "[enabling] players to collect units based on their actions in the games and exchange them for rewards such as exclusive in-game content or digital items," the first of which are an Altaïr outfit and "access to the Auditore Family Crypt" (among other things). We've yet to fully plunge the depths of Uplay's offerings in Assassin's Creed 2, but if there's anything really exciting, we'll be sure to let you know all about it. Keep it locked!
- pay close attention to the characters in the game, and the items around you. If you see that they’re longing for a particular item and you get it for them, you’ll see some sort of reaction.
- there’s a hot air balloon out in the field that you can latch onto for a ride

Aliens vs. Predator is kind of a misleading title. Aside from the titular extra-terrestrials, mankind's future badasses, the Colonial Marines, will also be able to get some in Rebellion's upcoming FPS romp. And for some of your pre-sale cash at GameStop, you'll be able to use one of the more badasserer (we're still working on that one) humans around: Sgt. Kaneko. This dude "wrote the book on small-scale Xeno containment," which is great because we hear there's a lot of Xeno in the game that needs, uh, containing.
Joining Kaneko are Number Six -- the blue thing on the left that looks like it's from The Darkness -- and Alien Head Predator, the "most successful Xenomorph Hunter of all time." That's how he she it got that neat Cylon mask! Both are very adept at being super scary-looking and can be yours if you pre-order at GameStop. Unless you live in Germany, in which case you get nothing.
A portion of a GameZone review (which came from the 3-hour review event that Activision held)…
Tony Hawk RIDE is a winner. This is a game that runs a bit more than typical titles ($120 at retail) but the cost is for the controller, which will undoubtedly have other applications down the road. The game, though, [...]
SAN MATEO, Calif. — November 18, 2009 — Capcom® Entertainment, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that three classic Ace Attorney® games are scheduled for digital release on Nintendo’s WiiWare next year beginning with the one that started it all, Phoenix Wright™: Ace Attorney® followed by Phoenix Wright™ Ace Attorney®: [...]
It might be silly to keep a giant Steel Battalion controller around for use with two games (Steel Battalion and ... the other Steel Battalion). But to use one for those two games and a custom VJ setup -- that's ... well, it's still kind of silly, but it's also pretty awesome.
One "visual performance unit" called Bonsajo rigged up one of Capcom's indulgent Xbox controllers to control an audiovisual display. It turns out that with all those crazy, light-up buttons, the controller is well suited to use for VJing in dark environments! And it also looks really cool, in a way that we wouldn't expect of a mech game controller at a party. See the controller in action after the break.

Demo Reviews: Bit.Trip Beat: Combination of Pong & Arkanoid set to music. Demo supports 2 player co-op, but it ends just when it gets challenging. My Life as a Darklord: puzzle/RPG/strategy-game where you build up an evil tower to defend against waves of invading good-guys. Surprisingly, this is the one I would be most likely to buy. Kindred Spirits: You play a Kid Icarus-like chick without a weapon. It's a platformer where can you use the wii remote to drag giant structures around to help you. Enjoyable gimmicks, but its kinda ugly. Pokemon Rumble: You control pokemon in an overhead beat-em-up. Demo lets you play 4 stages and ends right right when you get a lvl 100 pokemon able to fight in the Royal Rumble. Horrible presentation and boring gameplay unless you really like your pokemon. World of Goo: puzzle game where you build structures out of a limited number of goo balls. Probably still the best and most polished WiiWare game there is. Demo lets you play the whole first level.
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has finally debuted the first batch of Blu-ray discs that take advantage of Digital Copy for PSP. With this feature, people that own both a PS3 and a PSP will be able to copy a portable version of a movie directly from a Blu-ray disc to Sony's handheld. Well, almost directly.
There are a few steps you must take to activate the PSP copy. When you insert the Blu-ray disc into the PS3, you'll see two icons appear on the XMB, one that allows you to store a SD version of the movie to your PS3 hard drive. You must be logged on to the PlayStation Network and then enter a unique 12-digit code included with the disc. Once the activation process is complete, a 2GB file will transfer to your PS3. You can watch this movie on the hard drive (but why would you when you have the Blu-ray disc?), or you can copy it over to the PSP -- a process which takes about five minutes total.
The video quality of the "Digital Copy" is fantastic, especially on the PSP's smaller screen. Unfortunately, the initial batch of movies leaves a lot to be desired: Godzilla (the 1998 American version), The Ugly Truth and Angels & Demons. Hopefully, SPHE will start implementing the feature on some. Y'know, good movies in the future.
It's rare we quote someone extensively for a post, but we thought this update from PlayStation Home's Locust_Star speaks for itself:
"In celebration of the impending Turkey Day, users will approach the giant stone turkey in Central Plaza and, of course, pledge their allegiance to the almighty Meleagris Gallopavo by stating 'Gobble gobble' and/or other assorted turkey-isms ... You will be given a chance to chase a bunch of wily turkeys around Central Plaza. If you can manage to catch them all, you will unlock some truly hilarious rewards that are sure to make you an object of envy amongst your peers."
Yeah, the PS3 really can do everything.
As revealed in the latest issue of Famitsu, Capcom is bringing its three Phoenix Wright "courtroom battle" games to Nintendo's WiiWare service. Today the publisher confirmed that the releases will be making their way to the US beginning in January.
Capcom intends to release the games every other month (January, March and May) for 1,000 Wii Points ($10) apiece, with "Rise from the Ashes," the extra case added to the original Ace Attorney arriving as DLC for that game in May. The final price for it has yet to be nailed down, but should be between 200 and 500 Wii Points ($2-$5) when it hits.
The first game, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, is a port of the original Game Boy Advance title -- and, like the two subsequent WiiWare editions, Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations, remains unchanged from its original release (read: same graphics, sound, dialog) save for the ability to swing the Wii Remote out (as in the image above, which is one-off, non-sprite art) to object and present evidence to the court. They'll all be presented in widescreen, but the actual gameplay only takes up a 4:3 area on top of an animated background. Nevertheless, the games are still superb, and at $10 with the ability to play them on the big screen you won't hear any objections from us.
Check out a whole lot of screens and two pieces of art from Ace Attorney in the gallery below.
