While most people recognize Square Enix as the company that gave us the Final Fantasy series, there are some who remember the company differently. Some remember Square as the benevolent force that gave Vagrant Story to the world back in the PSOne era. A truly unique action RPG, Vagrant Story brought together a great story and a one of a kind battle system. As such, many gamers (including Joystiq editors) have been slavering for the game to hit PSN. Japan received it earlier this year and now it looks like Europe is next in line. Square Enix has announced that Vagrant Story will hit the PSN in PAL territories starting December 22. The game will be sold for €5.99, an absolute pittance. Let's hope the North American release isn't far behind. Considering the bizarre gaps between regional PSN releases though, we're not holding our breath.

Would you believe us if we told you that Koei's first Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce trailer had to brutally slice its way through an army 1,000 strong to arrive where you see it today, resting atop this post? It's the truth! It joined up with three friends online to "infiltrate heavily-armed enemy strongholds" and "slay dragons" and ... oh, who're we kidding. It's a trailer for one of the many upcoming Warriors games, and certainly not one of the historical characters littered throughout the series, bent on murdering all that stands in its path. It does, however, feature all of the aforementioned excitement. So there's that, right?

The war between pirate and ninja is as fabled as the internet itself. Joystiq is not immune to its allure (especially when it's so damned cute). Even our gaggle of bashful bloggers has thrown down in fisticuffs over the merits of swashbuckling versus ninjutsu. Imagine our surprise then, when we uncovered the Xbox Live Indie Game Pixel Whirled from Holmade Games, which stars both a ninja and a pirate working together. Blasphemous? Definitely. Fun? Could be. With a heavy coat of old-school pixels, some great retro tunes and Space Invaders gameplay with a (literal) twist, Pixel Whirled looks pretty interesting. Check out the trailer above and visit the delightful Pixel Whirled website for more info.

Jools Watsham's prediction of a "February-ish" release for Dementium II seems to have been right on target -- though Nintendo's release schedule wasn't. Rather than the February 2 date listed on that schedule, The company announced that the DS horror FPS will ship in North America on February 16 of next year. Europe will be subject to the horror two weeks later on March 5. SouthPeak reports that some Dementium II posters are still available to those who pre-order and send pictures of their receipts. Presumably more people will take advantage of the offer now that they now when the game they're pre-ordering will be released.

Take-Two warned us (and investors ... actually, mostly investors) to expect smaller revenues for the fiscal year that ended October 31, and its fiscal-year results, announced today, hold true to that portent. The company's net revenue for fiscal 2009 was $968.5 million, down from $1.5 billion. Take-Two attributes the loss to the lack of a game as strong as Grand Theft Auto IV. It wasn't all bad news, however. Net revenue in Q4 was actually up over 2008, from $323.4 million to $343.4 million. Take-Two attributes the success in this period to Borderlands, NBA 2K10, both the downloadable and disc-based releases of the Grand Theft Auto content and, yes, GTA IV, which must have experienced a resurgence when Gay Tony and Episodes from Liberty City were released.

Atlus' Demon's Souls will take pity on the masses this holiday as the game shifts to the "pure white tendency" this holiday. What this means is that "new areas and special NPCs" will exist in Boletaria during that time -- as a bonus, enemies cause less damage and players inflict more. Pure white is not easy to achieve, so this is a great opportunity for players. Atlus does note that adventurers may need to "log in and out a few times before [the] tendency shifts to match the server." Demon's Souls had a similar event during Halloween, but that was "pure black." There is no shame in using the game's official wiki and, for soul's sake, we recommend using it.

Yes, that's Street Fighter III's Hugo in the background. Yes, that's a giant statue of Mayor Mike Haggar holding the city's name aloft. Yes, that is awesome. Other new stages introduced include a busy Korean street, a neighborhood in Dhalsim's native India, a wrecked Shadaloo headquarters, and a watering hole somewhere in Africa occupied by terrifyingly enormous hippos. One thing the stages have in common: a million things going on in the background, while you try to get the joystick motion right for Zangief's spinning piledriver.
