I’m pretty sure this is a battle that Kung Fu is easily going to lose. I never thought the game to be very realistic!

A portion of a Hanafuda Times review… The Magic Obelisk might not be on the same calibur as Lost Winds, but it’s still worth your time and money if you call yourself a puzzle platforming fan. Come for the puzzles, stay for the charm.

ShopTo.net is offering up a preorder bonus for Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing, which comes in the way of a Wii wheel. We have no word on whether this preorder bonus is for ShopTo customers only, or if it will be offered at other retailers. Thanks to Shadzter for the heads up!

I wish I had a nearly full collection of Castlevania games. I have a bunch of the titles, but not anywhere near the collection of the person linked below. The image above doesn’t even show the start of all the goodies that Castlevania game collectors can have!

There were a few games that started out on the Nintendo 64, with Dinosaur Planet being one of the most famous. Not only did this game get moved over to the Cube, it also got a StarFox makeover along the way. I mean, it did make sense to put Fox and the gang [...]

What better day to talk about Pilotwings Wii rumors than on the day when the original hits the Virtual Console? I really hope that some way, some day, this Pilotwings sequel actually lands on Wii. I am in need of a Pilotwings fix, and the franchise is long overdue for another treatment.

A portion of an Aussie-Nintendo review… Castle of Magic is a brief and fairly generic platformer, but what’s there is charming and entertaining enough to recommend for fans of the genre, or pretty much anyone that’s just sick to death of the puzzle game deluge. The camera-based novelty to obtain power-ups was a really silly idea, [...]

“It was a very novel experience, we got a lot of help from our headquarters. Three programmers went in for training as well to Quebec. Remember Explodemon? If you don't, don't blame yourself -- the title was revealed back on April Fool's Day and hasn't been heard of since. While its core concept -- a superhero powered by self-detonation -- may seem familiar after the XBLA release of 'Splosion Man, these prototype videos show a very different direction for the upcoming PS3/PSP/Wii platformer. Perhaps an analogy would best sum up our impressions: Explodemon : Mario :: Splosion Man : Sonic (the good 2D kind, mind you) Jonathan Biddle, design director at developer Curve, recently wrote about the various inspirations of Explodemon, a design that has been four years in the making so far. According to Biddle, players are encouraged to get as close to enemies as possible when exploding themselves, a mechanic ripped from Dreamcast's Bangai-O. "It's risk/reward in a distilled form, and is pure Treasure genius." You can see it in action after the break.

I can’t post all of this entry into Penny-Arcade’s holiday cookie contest, simply because it’s too vulgar. It’s really funny at that, but definitely not safe for work. I can’t even mention the real name of Penny-Arcade’s contest, because that’s vulgar as well! Basically, if you don’t mind a bit of naughty [...]

If you spend much time checking out Indie Games on Xbox Live, there's a considerable chance you've stumbled upon the Arkedo Series of games. Fans will be happy to hear that Arkedo and Pastagames have released a third in the series. Entitled Pixel, the game features slick dot matrix graphics and simple platforming action. The game also has a nifty feature that allows players to zoom in on certain parts of the background and explore them at the pixel level. Check the game out in the video above and enjoy some screens in the gallery below. You can snag the trial version through the link below and, should you enjoy it, the full game is 240 ($3) or, as Arkedo puts it, "approximately the asking price for a nice latte." [GAME Watch] Yes, the year technically isn't over yet -- but let's be honest: Nobody's going to be buying any new games over the next four days. As such, Dengeki publisher ASCII Media Works thought it appropriate to track the 30 best-selling games in Japan for 2009. Or, rather, 99 percent of 2009. There aren't too many big surprises; Dragon Quest IX took top honors with 4,089,136 units sold, and Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver came in second with 3,301,873 in sales. Despite having only been out for a little over a week, Final Fantasy XIII actually managed a sixth place finish with 1,455,505 units sold. Check out the full list of top-selling games after the jump. Cool, I plan on getting it.  Though I'm really skeptical of comments like "this game will affect your view of life" and "make your day better and richer" and is "soulful nourishment".  What say you?

Ironworks Gaming Crew user WillyQ has a great wife, as evidenced by the Halo quilt she made him for the holidays. The winter quilt features 20 of WillyQ's screenshots, along with game emblems and his name at the top (just in case someone tries to take it). This is a good time to mention that the divorce rate in America is between 40-50 percent. If spouses did more thoughtful stuff like this we could easily reduce it by ... 1-2 percent, maybe? To say that No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle is an odd game is a gross understatement. The first game was certifiably insane (in a very good way), and the pair of new trailers for the game (one above, one past the break) on the Nintendo Channel keep that theme alive. They're both just downright odd, mixing together -- you know what? Just watch them. We're not even going to attempt to define what's here. Head past the break for the full list of this week's Nintendo Channel content.
