I hope we don’t end up waiting all the wait to September for Epic Mickey. I thought we were scheduled to get it earlier than that! Well, at least these dates aren’t set in stone. Thanks to AusGamer for the heads up.

click for screen-filling gore In the wake contrails of 0 Day Attack on Earth's December 23 release, Square Enix has announced that its next XBLA title, Death By Cube -- also a twin-stick, multidirectional shooter -- will be the new kid on the Live Marketplace block when it arrives on January 20. Seeming to draw inspiration from arcade classics such as Robotron and Smash T.V., the Premium Agency developed title is easily the most gore-filled Square Enix release, er ... ever, pitting players against cube-shaped enemies (getting the title yet?) that just happen to explode into bloody messes when killed. We went hands-on with the game at Tokyo Game Show 2009 and were pleasantly surprised by its smattering of unique play mechanics on top of a fairly done-to-death formula. Of course, you'll be able to judge it for yourself by downloading the trial version. If you like it, you can simply commute the demo to a full Death sentence.

Filed under: Nintendo Wii Capcom spoke to Gamasutra recently about the difficulty in taking advantage of the Wii's huge user base -- it and other third-party developers have struggled for a long time to sell games to the casual folks who bought Nintendo's console, and Capcom's senior director of communications Chris Kramer says it hasn't gotten any easier. "If you're not Nintendo," he says frankly, "it does seem harder to make money on the Wii today compared to the PS3 and the Xbox 360." So what's the solution? Fewer titles, higher quality. Kramer promises that Capcom will release fewer titles on the Wii in 2010, and that the few that do hit store shelves "will be much larger, event-size games." And he expects that other major developers will follow suit: You'll see "fewer games from the major third parties, like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft." If third parties don't see sales on the console, says Kramer, they'll stop developing for it.

[hugohugo at deviantART] deviantArt is usually the site you go to if you want to see uncomfortable, sexual doodles of anime characters and other such nonsense. Today, it's become the place to see the most badass Eddie Riggs homage known to man. In fact, we're pretty sure user hugohugo sold his soul to Satan for the ability to craft such a magnificent resemblance to Brütal Legend's protagonist. Compared to the official alternative, we have to say we dig hugohugo's a bit more. It's got character and is entirely posable -- even the fingers move for wicked faux-solos! [Via OKConsole]

click to enlarge Clearly sensing our need to come up with more Wild West headline puns, Rockstar has released four (count 'em, four) new screens of the gun-slinging sequel, Red Dead Redemption. The shots cover a fairly broad cross section of subjects, from dilapidated riverboat gunfights to exploding carriages and, of course, some nice, arid backdrops. We still don't know much about Redemption's gameplay, but we can safely say one thing: It sure is purdy. On a more substantial front, Rockstar promises more info "in the next couple of weeks," notably the entry in the series of gameplay videos that began in December. In the meantime, check out the new screens in the gallery below.

Three years after being unveiled at CES, Microsoft's Mediaroom software is finally coming to Xbox 360 (in the form of Mediaroom 2.0) "later this year" thanks to AT&T's U-verse service. But, that's all the details we had. Until today, when we spoke with Xbox's Aaron Greenberg as well as a Mediacenter spokesperson on the show floor who, between the two of them, managed to answer most of our questions. First, we asked Greenberg to explain the three-year delay between the technology's 2007 debut and this announcement. "Well, the technology that we showed [in 2007] was brand new and showing that it worked," Greenberg said. "What we then did was we went out to the IPTV content providers and said, 'Hey, now this is an option for you.'" And that option was, of course, to use the Xbox 360 to deliver IPTV content. Greenberg said, "So the technology works ... the Xbox 360 can serve as a set-top box, be a DVR, and run Mediaroom." But not so fast! We got a tour of the service and found a few disappointing shortcomings to that nominally appealing feature-set.

Click image to embiggen 2K Games sent over some new screens from upcoming Spec Ops: The Line and, as one can imagine, the shots feature a lot of the same stuff we saw in the VGA trailer last month: sand; dilapidated buildings; and lots of bang-bang shoot-shoot. While producer (and ex-GameSpot EIC) Greg Kasavin played up the appeal of setting a game in a veritable wonderland of architecture (see: neat buildings to shoot dudes in) during a recent interview, we have to wonder if staring at all of these bieges, browns and mustards will become annoying after a while. We guess everyone will find out when the game releases later this year. In the meanwhile, feel free to head into our gallery below to check out the new screens, which even include a shot that would probably give Bill O'Reilly a heart attack.
