It's awfully hard to find a way to cram more charm into the Super Mario Bros. experience -- believe us, we've tried. Well, we're happy to report that GameVideos user smartkid82504 may have done just that, re-imagining the classic platforming action of Super Mario Bros. 3 through some scraps of paper, crayons, a stop-motion camera, and a bit of good, old-fashioned moxie. Head past the break to check it out.

Did you vote in last year's Unlock Xbox competition? If so, did your pick make the final cut? Gamers and amateur designers were encouraged to submit their original ideas in the Doritos-sponsored competition. Out of over a thousand submissions, two will be turned into real (and free!) XBLA games. The three finalists to be considered by Microsoft execs are: Harm's Way -- snipers and drivers team up in a game that combines racing and blowing someone's brains out. Delicious! Avatar Crash Course -- inspired by Japanese obstacle courses, you must "press buttons, wiggle sticks, and jump up and down to survive." Thrown -- "the whole point of it is to smash into other vehicles in order to throw the driver from their car and then run them over." A feel good game! We're somewhat surprised by the violence involved in some of these XBLA suggestions. But perhaps we're looking in the wrong place for class, considering the last winner of Doritos' contest involved dinosaurs eating exploding trucks (seriously).

If you're trying to decide just which gas station through which to secure a copy of God of War 3, 7-Eleven has an interesting proposition for you. Pre-orders have opened up at 7-Eleven stores in the US, and include the exclusive poster seen above, which features Kratos checking out some totally sweet destruction courtesy of a Fire Titan. You can see the poster in Titan-size here. Supplies are limited, so we advise you to go pre-order the game now if you want one of these. 7-Eleven is a very convenient store, after all, meaning it shouldn't take too long for others to find their way there and claim a poster.

From Software has been on a roll lately, with the hit Demon's Souls and the well-received 3D Dot Game Heroes. But what of the franchise that people most closely associate with From Software (among people who associate From Software with things) -- Armored Core? At an Armored Core Silent Line Portable tournament in Tokyo, From Software dated the PSP version of Armored Core: Last Raven for March 4, and (more excitingly) announced a brand-new entry in the mech series, Armored Core 5. No details of the sequel were revealed beyond a release date, though the new AC5 site suggests that more information will be forthcoming January 14 (or when the Famitsu leaks hit). Mysteriously, clicking the big "5" on the site links to a Google search for the word "senjou," which means "battlefield." You mean there's going to be fighting in this mech combat game? Update: Reader Kenoji has pointed us to some off-screen footage of the teaser trailer shown after the event. It's posted after the break.

CoroCoro magazine has posted character portraits and descriptions of all eight Robot Masters in Mega Man 10. While there are a few weird ones, for the most part, the foes feature the usual fire/ice/water/explosive themes we expect from Mega Man bosses. We've seen Sheep Man and Commando Man previously, but now we know about Nitro Man, Strike Man (the sports-themed boss whose level was shown at CES), Blade Man (whose head is a blade), Chill Man, Solar Man, and ... Pump Man. He has a "water-themed shield weapon," according to the short blurb accompanying his portrait. (You can see portraits of all eight over on the Mega Man Network.) And after the break, see Dueling Analogs' take on the new Easy Mode, in which the cartoonist does his very best to make you feel ashamed of ever considering it an option.

With releases like Castlevania The Adventure ReBirth, and The Magic Obelisk, WiiWare has been pretty great lately. Press Play has announced that another promising-looking title will be joining those games on the service soon -- and unlike those two, it's hitting PAL territories first. According to the Facebook page for Max & The Magic Marker, a side-scroller that allows the player to interact with the world by drawing on the screen with the Wiimote pointer, will be available for download in Europe on January 22, with worldwide releases following soon after. While Press Play didn't divulge the North American release date specifically, we're pleased to have some news. [Via GoNintendo]
