In a developer blog post, Atlus editor Clayton S. Chan ("the "S" does not stand for 'Shiren'") described the upcoming Wii release of Shiren the Wanderer as a game in which "story plays a huge role," contrasting with previous Shiren games in which just enough story was presented to justify the gameplay. In addition to exploring the mysterious Karakuri Mansion, Chan said, players can expect to "learn a bit about Shiren's relationship with [characters from his past], and you'll also learn quite a bit about Shiren's father and the ancestors of both Shiren and Koppa." Several post-game side stories will also help expand the storyline. Shiren will be out on February 9. In addition to the new info posted on Atlus's site, we have screenshots in our gallery which prove that despite the emphasis on story, Shiren is still a traditional roguelike.

You may have already caught a glimpse of Transformers: War for Cybertron on this very site, but now we're happy to report that Activision has docked on the Space Station Stiq with an extended trailer in tow. After decrypting and uploading to our network -- which is fueled by caramel and old E.T. Atari 2600 carts -- we're glad to show you, dear reader, the full debut trailer, with one caveat: it may not be for the faint of heart. Much WD-40 is spilled on the war-torn streets of the Transformers' home planet, so much that we ask all of our mechanically-inclined readers pour themselves a stiff drink before viewing. Seriously, lots of robots die, people.

click to try on a larger image Remember those Sonic the Hedgehog gaming accessories that Mad Catz announced all the way back in 2009? The peripheral maker has now shed further light on its licensing deal with Sega, announcing a line of Sonic products for the DS Lite and DSi. First up is the microfiber soft case, which looks an awful lot like the neon, nylon wallets we used to carry back in fifth grade. In addition to snugly storing a DS or DSi, the soft case also has an extra pocket for games or related DS goodies. Next is the ArmorCase which, as the name implies, gives your DSi a tough outer shell to protect it from its natural predators. Like concrete, for example. Finally, our favorite Soniccessory, the Character Sockz. They're basically like the ludicrously priced iPod socks you may have seen, only these have Sonic on them and are somewhat more reasonably priced. The Sockz, ArmorCase and soft case are expected to retail for $12.99 each, with a release planned for this spring. Check out some pre-production images in the gallery below.

After years of rumors and an encouraging statement from Netflix's CEO, it appears to be official: the Nintendo Wii will gain the ability to stream content from Netflix's "Watch Instantly" selections. The New York Times reports that the companies will announce the deal later today. Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime called the addition of Netflix functionality "a continuation of an effort to bring more and more entertainment to consumers who interact with the Wii." The AP notes (via Engadget) that, like the PS3's implementation of the service, Netflix on Wii will require an "instant streaming disc." [Thanks, Ridgecity]

If Nintendo really wanted "more and more entertainment to consumers", why can't the Wii play DVDs?

The Wii is not the platform I would want Netflix on.

Longing for another chance to furiously draw circles around monsters? Good news, a third Pokemon Ranger game for DS is on the way. Serebii reports that the latest issue of Japan's Corocoro Comic features the first look at Pokemon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki (Path of Light), which, like the others, puts the player in the role of a Ranger equipped with a "Capture Styler" that lets you draw energy circles around Pokemon to trap it. This third entry takes place on an island setting and features tropical Pokemon like -- we're totally not making this up -- Ukulele Pichu. You'll be able to use "Ranger Signs" to summon certain Pokemon that impart new abilities, in addition to the existing "Poke Assist," which essentially adds elemental damage to your Styler. Japanese gamers will be able to round up Hikari no Kiseki on March 9. [Via Andriasang]

As usual, Famitsu scans have beaten official sources to the punch, with scans of the magazine's reveal of Armored Core 5 now online. The article reveals that AC5 is a PS3/360 game, built, according to Siliconera, on the concept of "mayhem-like mecha action." The "mayhem" is the result of the new "more complicated" three-dimensional stages, featuring many different heights from which to attack. These stages will be populated by smaller mechs -- the robots will come in at around five meters tall, instead of ten as in previous Cores. The smaller mechs will be more maneuverable, according to Andriasang's summary of the article, and able to traverse smaller areas of the environments, and even hide in some corners.

We'd gone ahead and written off Million Ton Barabara, the upcoming project from Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman creator Acquire, as a simple, extremely Japanese Qix clone. That is, until we watched the super catchy, seemingly Wes Anderson-inspired trailer posted after the jump. Upon viewing it, we fell instantly in love -- and became all the more excited that, according to AndriaSang, a demo for the game will find its way onto the Japanese PSN sometime next week. Importing stuff from the PlayStation Store is a huge hassle -- but something tells us this one will be worth it. Seriously, folks -- if you're looking for some good whistling material for the next few hours, check out the trailer just past the jump.
