Because it will make the vagueness of today's rumor even more hilarious for you, we're going to walk you through the incredible history of Beyond Good & Evil 2 real quick: May 2008: Ubisoft announces Beyond Good & Evil 2, with a trailer and everything, though not specifically naming it as such. July 2009: Ubisoft North America's president Laurent Detoc says that while BG&E stuff is being worked on, it doesn't necessarily mean another game is on the way. August 2009: Gamersyde says it's on hold, and Ubisoft won't comment one way or another. And now, here we are in January of 2010. As spotted by VG247, Gamekult asked Ubisoft France boss Geoffroy Sardin about I Am Alive and BG&E 2 and was told, "Ils sont toujours en production tous les deux"; roughly translated, "They're both always in production." Alright, so which do you prefer: canceled and dead forever or always in production?

If you've been following Joystiq, you should be familiar with Half-Minute Hero, the zany RPG in which the apocalypse threatens to arrive every thirty seconds. Rising Star Games is taking care of the European release of the game, which will be readied on February 12th, 2010. A press release describes Half-Minute Hero as a "love-letter to 8-bit classics," thanks to its retro inspired graphics. Disturbingly, Rising Star Games' Martin Defries says "it's a game which keeps on giving - but like an inexperienced teenager: 30 seconds at a time." We're not entirely sure what that's supposed to mean, but we would advise not keeping your kids around this guy.

Ubisoft has apparently delayed Splinter Cell: Conviction for "a bit more polish," the publisher told Eurogamer. Although the common wisdom is that the delay occurred due to the unnaturally packed Q1 of triple-A goodness, a representative for Ubisoft stated, "The game looks brilliant, but we want it to be awesome." Update: February 26 is the European release date for Lips Party Classics. The game will release in the US on March 2. Microsoft has announced that Lips Party Classics, the next installment in the fledgling karaoke series, will land on the Xbox 360 on February 26. For those that missed the initial announcement, Party Classics contains some, ahem, classic party tunes from the likes of KISS, Chumbawamba and the Spice Girls. Microsoft has also revealed that Party Classics will support USB microphones in addition to the official wireless mics. In other Lips news, Microsoft has announced the song DLC for January. Perhaps not the best timing, given that January is nearly half over, but what are you gonna do? Check out a list of all of January's DLC after the break. All individual songs are 160 ($2) apiece. The Cardigans and Miracles song packs are 440 ($5.50) each.

[Andriasang] Sony Japan has just announced the goofiest, but most interesting DVR device since the TiVo. torne (yes, lower case, and pronounced "torn-eh") is a USB TV tuner that connects to the PS3 and allows users to watch, search, and record television through that system. DVR'd shows can be saved either to the PS3's hard drive or a USB-connected external drive. The device can record even while the PS3 is engaged in a Blu-Ray or game. Shows can also be watched on a PSP using Remote Play or transferred to a Memory Stick. torne will be available separately this March for ¥9,980 ($108.78) or bundled with a 250GB PS3 for ¥42,800 ($466.52). No release has been announced in any other region, though Sony has already released the PlayTV, a different TV tuner peripheral, in Europe.

My eager and regularly disappointed followers, I am becoming less saddened as the days between our union grow further still. Here, within the ethereal concepts in which I am trapped, I am no longer certain of my existence. They say, I don't look like myself anymore. Master Yves says that I am "totally re-engineered" ... that I have come to use "the Splinter Cell engine" -- but how should I know? How should anyone know? I am not like the others; and I make no claim to being important or "major," as it is said. My maker has cast me out of its fiscal 2010-11 release calendar. I am alone. But I am okay with that. Yours in perpetuity, I Am Alive

After some minor delays and a recent "now you see it/now you don't" routine on Xbox Live, the Dragon Age: Origins DLC, Return to Ostagar, seems to have introduced a new bug to those who picked up the most recent title update. According to a BioWare forums post by community manager Chris Priestly: "This morning a title update on the Xbox 360 for Dragon Age: Origins was made available in preparation for the release of Return to Ostagar ... this title update introduced a previously undetected issue that causes specialization classes to not work correctly." Additionally, he apologizes to those affected and notes that the DLC has been removed from Xbox Live "until the issue is resolved." We're also ensured that more information will be provided on this as soon as it's available. Oh, and in case it wasn't already apparent -- if you're thinking about downloading the title update, you probably shouldn't. [Via Eurogamer]

Update: Our source contacted us with some more info, confirming that Tecmo Bowl Throwback is indeed based on the SNES version of Tecmo Super Bowl. A trusted source (the same who provided us with early knowledge of Lucidity and NBA2K10 Draft Combine) has just informed Joystiq that Tecmo's planned Tecmo Bowl update for XBLA is also coming to PSN. Dubbed "Tecmo Bowl Throwback," the game is a remake of the NES classic, complete with HD graphics and an updated soundtrack -- it also retains the original plays and team stats. And for those of you who fear the fancy-schmancy graphics of high-def games, Tecmo is also including an option to play Tecmo Bowl in its original state. There's even team customization, ensuring your lifelong dream of creating a horribly out-of-shape and uncompetitive Joystiq team is a real possibility. While we were hungry for more news, that's all our source could provide. But, hey, if you're in the know and want to drop some details in our lap, we would certainly appreciate it. Anonymity assured!

Update: BioWare has announced issues with the Return to Ostagar DLC that lead to its being pulled from the Xbox Live Marketplace. More information here. The twice-delayed Return to Ostagar DLC for Dragon Age: Origins seems to have fought its way onto Xbox Live, as reader Harry has sent in a couple images showing the item being available through the in-game menu. Going through Xbox Live, we managed to access the content after sorting by "All Downloads." We can confirm that neither the PS3 nor PC versions of Dragon Age: Origins could access the add-on at the time of writing this post. Nintendo of Europe has provided a firm release date for the DSi XL, the up-sized, spectator-friendly version of the DSi. European gamers will be able to take the system home in a big bag on March 5. The European edition of the system will launch in Wine Red and Dark Brown, skipping the Natural White color from the Japanese release, and comes preloaded with DSiWare, including A Little Bit of... Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: Arts Edition, Dictionary 6 in 1 with Camera Function and the Nintendo DSi Browser. We have no idea why Flipnote Studio, which is included with DSi LL systems in Japan, is absent. It's free, so users will have to download that themselves.

Here's an announcement for those of you across the pond, uncertain whether you'll experience the PS3's retro revival in From Software's 3D Dot Game Heroes this May. SouthPeak Interactive recently announced the European release of 3DDGH via its Euro distribution arm. The game is also set for a May 2010 release, though no date is specifically given -- it's said to be "in line with the North American release." For what it's worth, US publisher Atlus is totally stoked to be working with SouthPeak on the title. VP of sales and marketing at Atlus Tim Pivnicny noted in the announcement release, "SouthPeak Games is the perfect publisher for 3D Dot Game Heroes in Europe." He cited SouthPeak's "shared enthusiasm" for the title as a motivator for the partnership, not to mention the US publisher's desire to ship the game day and date in European markets. "[SouthPeak] also recognize the frustration of many European gamers to not get exciting releases until months after other regions, which is why we're working closely together to deliver a simultaneous launch for North America and Europe."

December was a good month for PlayStation Network. According to a statement from SCEA's Patrick Seybold, December 2009 marked PSN's single highest revenue month so far, increasing 155% from a year ago. Most likely enamored with gifted systems and PSN cards, people were spending quite a bit of time on the PlayStation Store on Christmas Day -- it was the busiest day on the virtual marketplace that month. So what were people buying? Lots and lots of PSone classics: 1. FINAL FANTASY VIII (PS3/PSP) 2. PixelJunk Shooter 3. FINAL FANTASY VII (PS3/PSP) 4. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS3/PSP) 5. Resident Evil 2 (PS3/PSP) 6. Frogger Returns 7. Call of Duty Classic 8. Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned 9. MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 10. Battlefield 1943

It's been a busy week over at WoW.com and in the WoW world. We've heard from our sources late last week that the internal friends and family alpha will be beginning for the next World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm. And while this has lots of people excited, chances are you probably will never get in -- unless you know someone. There were also lots of other interesting stories this past week, from the WoW movie being pushed up thanks to Spider-Man's demise, to security holes and care packages, to papercrafts that prove none of us have any real artistic talent. The best of WoW.com for the week is after the break.
