For those who find the titillating, boobastic and breastical US cover of Heavy Rain a bit wet and in-your-face, Sony is apparently giving US audiences an alternative. Associate Product Manager Cristian Cardona states on the PlayStation Blog that the company will have the European box artwork available as a download to print "around launch." The launch of the western interactive novel is expected February 23. At that time we'll go into our local games retailer with European cover in-hand, purchase a copy and replace that pure-marketing cover for the more artistic one, STAT. [Via Shacknews]

Sega sneaked the Image Epoch-developed apocalyptic RPG Sands of Destruction into stores this week. In a display of corporately synergistic timing, FUNimation has also released the anime online -- for free! If you don't mind watching it in a window on your computer, you can see either the first two episodes in dubbed format or all 13 episodes with subtitles. Of course, for those of you who enjoy watching things on televisions, FUNimation plans to release a two-DVD set containing the entire season on January 26. We haven't watched yet, but we're definitely looking forward to this feel-good tale of some kids out to destroy the world and save humanity from beast-man enslavement. [Via GSW]

You and I both know that multiplatform doesn’t mean Wii/360/PS3…it usually just means 360/PS3. In the case of BioWare I would almost guarantee that. Still, I’ll hold out hope until it’s completely stomped out.

Professor Layton, White Knight Chronicles, and Dragon Quest IX developer Level-5 is expanding from its Fukuoka, Japan base, founding a new office in Tokyo focused on its ROID mobile gaming platform, overseas business, and "new enterprises." The move could portend worldwide release of the developer's mobile games, or even expansion of its publishing business. In Japan, Level-5 publishes the Layton series, Inazuma Eleven, and other titles independently. If a localized Inazuma Eleven is indeed on the way, Level-5 could be looking to start up its publishing business outside of Japan with that title. Or, less spectacularly, we suppose the new office could be tasked with localization of games and dealing with Western publishers. [Via Siliconera]

Super Mario RPG Ah, remember how long we waited for this one to land on the Virtual Console? You would think that something like this would have landed in the first couple of months with the service. That didn’t happen, it too way too long, but at least we have it!

According to Siliconera, the latest issue of Famitsu brought great news to the loyal fans of Atlus-developed strategy-RPGs: Knights in the Nightmare, a former DS-exclusive, will soon be ported to the PSP. New features for the port include an animated opening title sequence and some much-needed tutorial missions. There's no official release date or word of an US localization for the title just yet -- we contacted Atlus to try and discern these details, but received a "No Comment" in return. We're as excited by this news as anyone else -- but all that multitasking in the game was pretty difficult to keep track of on two screens. The thought of trying to manage Knights' utterly perplexing combat system on a single screen is downright terrifying.

And here we thought PopCap was quite the expert dealer, allowing people to try Peggle for free, then charging when users inevitably came running back for another hit of the sweet stuff. Instead, the casual games giant has just revealed it's going to offer free bonus content for Peggle Nights, the sequel to its first Peggle game. The "Art Contest" level pack features five brand-new levels, based on submissions in the Peggle Art Contest from early last year. These new levels can be played in both the Quick Play and Duel modes, and are also the basis for five new challenges in Challenge mode. If you're looking for a fix, you can cram these levels in your pipe and smoke 'em by heading over to PopCap's site here.
