I haven’t seen this movie, but Chris Klein’s horrible performance is enough to make me go out and rent it. I could use a good laugh!

Just Cause 2 has had its fair share of titillating promotional materials over the past few months, but the latest piece of marketing for the game -- an interactive trailer -- really goes for broke. It's basically showing off the various options you have when faced with a tricky hostage scenario. Hijack a fighter jet? Storm the area in a Humvee? Ride your parachute in, sneaky-creepy style? All are possible in the trailer, which we've posted after the jump. However, the trailer's not nearly as sandbox-esque as we expect the game to be. What if, instead of infiltrating the enemy base, we just tethered two fighter jets together using our grappling hook, and then flew around clotheslining unlucky sentries? Yeah, that's a pretty specifically-tailored plan of action, but we're pretty sure that's all we're going to do once we get our hands on the game. Eidos, we expect a revised version of the trailer on our desks by tomorrow morning.

Rockstar certainly seems to be in quite the mess right now. Plenty of employees and ex-employees are coming out of the woodwork, complaining about the developer. Is Rockstar really all that bad to work for? Is this one of the dirty secrets that the game industry has been holding back? If [...]

With the final month of the year in our snowmobile's rear-view, we can now pore over a totally complete and official list of the best-selling games of 2009 and boy, what a difference a month makes. While Modern Warfare 2 for 360 and PS3 still hold the #1 and #8 slots respectively, December has allowed first-party Nintendo games to fill #2 through #7. Heck, Pokemon Platinum even sneaks back in there at the end for good measure. Gamasutra's got the full list here, if you feel like perusing. We at Joystiq Publishing would again like to apologize to our investors for failing to crack the Top Ten list for the seventh year running. That said, we've been learning from these success stories and we're pretty sure that Healthy Race Island: Now With Shooting and Pokemon, will lead the way to a much brighter 2010.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 is already filled with questionable marketing partnerships. So it comes as no surprise that Sega's going to take it another step further, by making Valkyria Chronicles 2 content specially for Phantasy Star Portable 2 owners. Eight DLC packs have been announced for the Japanese release of VC2, and some will require save data from Sega's other PSP game. The listing, as translated by Andriasang: 1/21: Melfair's Crisis - Free 1/21: Request From the Guardians - Free* 1/21: Challenge from Little Wing - Free* 2/4: Strategy Battle Drills VS F Group - ¥100 2/11: Tough Battle Melfair City EX - ¥100 2/18: Kokugen no Tani - ¥100 2/18: Teisatsuhei Urakatei Shuryou Shiken - ¥100 2/25: Ultimate Challenge - ¥100 *requires Phantasy Star Portable 2 save data

We rarely get to praise advertising for a Wii game, because it rarely exists, and when it does, it's rarely anything special. But Capcom nailed it with this TV commercial for Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, featuring stop-motion action figure combat between Ryu, Mega Man Volnutt, Ken the Eagle and Tekkaman Blade. The animation is well-done, the combat is well-choreographed and at no point do three generations of family giggle at you from a couch. Capcom says the commercial will be showing "in HD glory on USA, SyFy, Adult Swim and more starting next Monday." Provided it runs frequently enough and at good timeslots, this thing could actually sell some copies of the game. Check it out after the break.

In a recent report, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich has predicted that Nintendo will announce its next handheld -- let's call it the DS2 -- within the next eight months. Furthermore, Divnich believes that the product will be released within fifteen months. "one of the biggest reasons for Nintendo's success in the handheld market is their ability to remove opportunity gaps for competitors to enter," says Divnich, citing the early release of the DS, which effectively stymied the chances for the PSP a year later. Other reasons to release new hardware include the increasing threat of piracy and the specter of declining support from publishers (Ubisoft, for example, has announced plans to scale back support for Nintendo platforms). Frankly, the DS hardware is getting a little long in the tooth; as such, it's not too hard to imagine Nintendo ramping up for the release of its inevitable successor. Hell, even Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has been talking about it. Or has he?

We can't be gaming all the time, despite our best efforts, and from time to time we'll actually take advantage of the movie-playing abilities on our gaming systems. JBO features our top picks for XBL, PSN, Netflix's Watch Instantly and Blu-ray each week. Recommendation of the Week: The Dungeon Masters ($3.99 three-day rental, $14.99 to purchase, Amazon VOD) We don't normally include Amazon VOD in this list, simply because it's not (readily) accessible from gaming consoles ... although you can watch it on your Mac or PC. However, I just had to share this movie with you. I was lucky enough to see director Keven McAlester's The Dungeon Masters at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2008, and it is finally coming to a screen near you. The documentary chronicles the exploits of three D&D dungeon masters (and one who is also a gamer) and the trials and tribulations of living with their obsession. You can watch a trailer for the movie and pre-order it on Amazon VOD. The bad news? It doesn't come out until February 12. (Buy now, watch later!) The good news? It's amazing. Depressing at times, sure, but a telling and realistic portrait of certain types of gamers. You know the ones. A perfect movie to watch as you bust out the 4th Edition and start rolling. Read on after the break for the rest of our recommendations, and let us know what you're watching!

Confirming an earlier GameFly listing, Askys Games has announced that BlazBlue Portable will be hitting, juggling and then pulverizing the US in a succession of 673 extra-dimensional laser punches this March. The PSP version of the frenetic fighter will be available via UMD at first, and then the PlayStation Store approximately two weeks later. Thankfully, fans of the console game's bold, 2D artwork need not worry about a calamity being triggered (hnngggghhh) in the miniaturization process. According to Aksys project lead Michael Manzanares, "Every frame of animation and hit box is painstakingly replicated from the original game, so all of your combos work without a hitch. And new Unlimited versions of your favorite characters don't hurt, either." BlazBlue Portable will also support multiplayer battles via Ad-Hoc mode, so you can punch all your friends -- right in their foolishly unprotected hit boxes.
