I love The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, but I never realized how truly important it was to not only the Zelda franchise, but gaming in general. At least, I should say that I didn’t realize this game’s contributions to the industry until a few years later. It’s obvious to see how Wind [...]

As promised, a Heavy Rain demo is coming to the PlayStation Store. SCEE's Mike Kebby told readers of the PlayStation.Blog to expect a demo on February 11th. While not guaranteed, it's likely that Sony will release the demo of one of its biggest first-party titles worldwide. Of course, you could always make an extra European PSN account just in case. Don't worry, Sony doesn't seem to mind. [Via VG247]

And here we thought Bayonetta had cornered the giant black cannibalistic things summoned from the ether market, but the tail-end of this Nier trailer suggests there's some incoming competition in that department. There are other parts of the trailer worth pointing out (or, perhaps, worth pointing at ... and laughing about), too, like how Square Enix proclaims Nier to be "THE NEXT GREAT STORY FROM SQUARE ENIX" or how it begins with another one of those rants. Is every character in Nier going to be so darn self-absorbed?

Looks like Zangeki no Reginleiv’s black box isn’t a one-time thing. Nintendo will be making sure that all Wii games rated CERO C and up will come in black boxes. Wondering what other games in Japan would qualify for this color scheme if they were reprinted? Ghost Squad, Disaster: Day of Crisis [...]

“[During that gap between Sands of Time and Prince of Persia] there were all these adventures that the character went on that we never really talked about, so now we’re making a game based on one of those adventures.” McIntyre says. “It doesn’t have anything to do with the whole time story.” - Director of [...]

The MMO-developing band over at Cryptic has released an absolutely massive update to the Star Trek Online open beta. There are literally pages of fixes and changes, though Cryptic has thankfully distilled the major "headline" changes into a few bullet points: The level cap has been removed, which should be music to the ears of the pre-release power levelers out there. Cardassian and Romulan space is now accessible to Federation players, too, and there are some changes to bridge officer mechanics. Additionally, the update allows players to use the mini-map to scan anomalies. As we all know, anomalies need scanning like nobody's business, so that's good news. Perhaps most important of all is that Spock himself, Mr. Leonard Nimoy, now offers an "audio journal overview" upon entering a new sector of space. That's great news because, just like bacon, everything's better with Nimoy. Hit the source link for the full patch release notes (be sure to click through the splash page).

Digital love, from the makers of all those Pokemon games.

Even though Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is already bordering on the legal limits of how many characters are simultaneously allowed in a single game, Capcom thought about adding others. We all knew (and are very depressed about) the almost-inclusion of Phoenix Wright, but according to a web chat with producer Ryota Niitsuma (via Siliconera) the Samurai Pizza Cats were once considered for the game. "We at Capcom too, wanted to see the Samurai Pizza Cats in the game. We were in discussion with Tatsunoko Productions to try to get them in the game. It went right up the last minute, but it didn't go through," revealed Niitsuma. It didn't end there, either -- Capcom even considered putting in Speed Racer. Niitsuma commented that the hurdle with him was putting his race car into the game, something we find a bit odd considering the game has characters who are far larger and comprised of far more complicated mechanical parts than a stinkin' race car! In other news: Joystiq finally has a Samurai Pizza Cats tag. May it console you in your time of need.

Usually, when we label a headline as a "PSA," it's in a joking manner; say, "PSA: Bacon is delicious, good for you." However, we're pretty sure this post constitutes a legitimate public service announcement: Ars Technica recently published an article that the frequent trade-in-ers among us should probably read. In short, if you're not erasing your consoles' hard drives before trading them in, there's a pretty good chance you could be robbed blind. (Or at least robbed astigmatic.) Seriously, if you're thinking about trading in or pawning one of your gaming consoles sometime soon, follow the helpful tips provided in the Ars piece. They'll ensure that you don't accidentally leave your credit card information in the system's memory for its next owner to exploit. You also don't want to leave your Avatar, Mii or PlayStation Home account on there, either. That's how e-stalkers get started, dont'chaknow.
