Here in the States, we get a weekly dose of Nintendo marketing via Nintendo Week, a sponsored program that runs on the Nintendo Channel. Over in the UK, they get a similar program: Ninty News. Yeah, we're not big fans of the name, either. In this week's episode, the spotlight is cast on the upcoming year in gaming on Nintendo platforms. Games like Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Epic Mickey are discussed, as well as -- wait, did he just say The Legend of Zelda on the Wii would release this year? Rambling Rupees, we think he did! You can see the entire episode of -- ugh -- Ninty News past the break. The brief mention of Zelda Wii is a little past the one-minute mark. [Via Go Nintendo]

Is WiiWaa going to come out in 2010? That’s the goal of the developers, and I hope they hit their mark. I think WiiWaa could be an absolutely massive success if marketed correctly. Get some commercials on the right stations, and get ready for a flood of youngsters.

When Skate 3 was revealed, we didn't know what to make of the change in venue. The third installment takes place in the fictional skateboarding paradise of Port Carverton and, as the above developer's diary informs, it's actually a homage to recently-deceased colleague Ron "Mad Carver" Hartley. He's even got his own in-game memorial, which we think is a great way to be remembered. When we go, we hope somebody cares enough to at least hold on to the newspaper clipping about that one blog that lost its life defending the earth from the hordes of Raptormen who'll eventually enslave us all in 2022.

EA Sports is close to launching the "free-to-play" version of its footy franchise for PC, called EA Sports FIFA Online, in Europe and North America. A closed beta begins February 3, and the publisher is looking for feedback to help shape the game before it goes into open beta this June. EA will allow 20,000 testers in the first phase, so sign up now if you're interested. The game will officially launch "over the next 12 to 24 months" across "Europe and then in North America." FIFA Online has been available in Asia for years. It's not like sales of "regular" FIFA are hurting, so who is this game for? Executive Producer Kaz Makita says FIFA Online is for the "large number of football fans who do not want a console gaming experience due to time and other priorities in their personal lives, but they still want to be able to play a top-quality football video game." Ohh, we get it now, it's the FIFA game you play at work! Gotcha. Gallery: EA Sports FIFA Online

Valve has announced that its digital distribution and community service, Steam, surpassed 25 million members in 2009. That's a 25-percent increase over 2008, according to Valve, with the company adding that 10 million of those members have created community profiles. Furthermore, December saw the number of simultaneous users pass 2.5 million, while average monthly gaming minutes passed 13 billion. The press release doesn't disclose specific financial numbers, though it does note that overall sales are up 225 percent over 2008, "marking the fifth straight year the platform has realized over 100 percent year-over-year growth in unit sales." This part of the our blog post, incidentally, is where we insert a joke about the fact that Half-Life 2: Episode 3 still hasn't been released.

If you prefer your demos in the English language, then forget about trying to access the Japanese demo and instead, hunker down until February 4 when Koei will unleash a button-bashing demo of Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce onto PSN and Xbox Live. Giving gamers a taste of the title two weeks before its scheduled release on February 16, there's sadly no word on the exact contents of the demo in the press release issued. Do you really need to know more? It's Dynasty Warriors -- you mess dudes up. That's how it works. Dynasty Warriors Strikeforce assaults retail shelves on February 16.
