Wow, it seems like someone is really upset with Nintendo UK’s decision to go with comedians Ant and Dec as the poster promoters for all things Nintendo. I’ve seen plenty of the ads, and I don’t know why anyone would be truly upset about this duo handling the marketing side of things. I [...]

In November, Yuji Naka's studio, Prope, revealed a new original IP, Ivy the Kiwi? ... for Windows Mobile. The latest Famitsu reveals that the developer is porting the game to some game consoles! Namely, DS and Wii. Namco Bandai will release Ivy the Kiwi in Japan on April 22 -- it's the first Prope game to be published by someone other than Sega or (in the case of the Windows Mobile version) Prope itself. However, despite its origins as a mobile game, and its simple pick-up-and-play gameplay (which involves stretching and bouncing drawn lines to move a bird through a maze), Ivy the Kiwi is destined for retail on consoles, at a price of ¥3,990 ($43).

Another year, another Madden cover announcement. But wait, this year has a twist! EA and Doritos have teamed up with a unique promotion, allowing fans to vote on who they want to grace the cover of this year's annual gridiron update. The three candidates for this year's cover include Vikings' defensive end Jared Allen, Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne. It may be tempting to choose your favorite athlete out of the bunch, but we urge you to play it smart. Instead, think about this as a strategic opportunity to inflict the Madden Curse on your most hated team! Best of all, you can vote every day to inflict as much negative karma as possible. In addition to being able to decide who lands the cover of Madden 11, the Doritos-sponsored promotion also offers entry into a contest. Most notably, the weekly grand prize is a trip for two to see the NFL Draft in New York City this April. Considering you don't have to buy a single bag of Doritos to participate, this promo seems like a must for any NFL fan.

I have absolutely no idea why North America decided to shun Excitebots: Trick Racing in the sales department. This game is a blast…by far, one of the most fun racing games I’ve ever played. It has top-notch speed, over-the-top action and tons of zany characters and courses. Seriously, head out to your [...]

When the last Xbox 360 NXE update reduced the footprint of some full game installations, many assumed that Microsoft had simply employed an advanced mom-packs-your-suitcase algorithm. And while that wasn't the most technically accurate assumption, it didn't stray too far from the layman's truth. "Xbox 360 game disc layouts are optimized for the reading speeds of optical discs drives and attempt to concentrate the game disc data at the fastest read locations on the disc," Thomas Soemo writes on the Xbox Engineering Blog. "This typically ends up creating gaps at the beginning, end, and in the middle of the disc layout where layer 1 transfers to layer 2." Soemo, a senior program manager lead at Microsoft, explains that in creating the update, "we went back and examined how much potential space savings we could deliver to customers by removing these gaps that can occur in the middle of the game code in the disc layout." Removing the gaps benefited not only game installations, but the size of games obtained via Microsoft's Games on Demand service, which uses "the same underlying technology." Also, your mom uses the same underlying technology.

Reader Kolma is obviously a huge Sonic fan. Who else could pick out a finding like that in the image above? I would have never noticed the sprite differences. Hell, even with the comparison I can’t tell the difference! Just a little oddity for those that follow Sonic very, very closely!

Ghostfire Games' Rage of the Gladiator is on the way to WiiWare, and now we have word of another first-person, MotionPlus-enhanced WiiWare game involving ghosts: Ghost Slayer, by Gevo Entertainment. Ghost Slayer uses the Wiimote (with optional MotionPlus) to simulate a sword as you fight howling, glowing ghouls in first person. According to the backstory, ghosts (led by a Ghost Queen) are pouring out of a dry well, and it's up to you, as a Ghost Slayer, to hit them a bunch of times with your sword! The North American release date is currently TBA. In the meantime, you can be creeped the hell out by the trailer after the break. [Via Nintendo Life]

Mad Catz's Street Fighter IV Tournament FightSticks are currently priced to move at sonic boom speeds on Amazon at $99 for Xbox 360. Regularly priced at $150, there was a serious shortage of the peripheral last year, but now these baby Blankas are looking for a home. For those with a little patience, the Super Street Fighter IV Tournament FightSticks are coming in April, but are priced at $150 like the original.
