I don’t know why it’s taking so long to get Octomania out in Europe, but at least we have word that it’s still on the way. Publisher Midas Interactive Entertainment has given no reason as to why the game has seen such a delay.

Hey look, it’s some Nintendo Power tips that you can actually use today! A little helpful set of hints for Blaster Master were stuck on this Nintendo Power promo back in the day. Man, remember when Nintendo was all about the NES, and wacky neon colors? Why can’t we have this color [...]

If you're an avid follower of pre-release review scores for super anticipated titles, you've probably noticed the scattershot scores garnered by Final Fantasy XIII. Most critics' biggest complaint with the game is its linearity -- a qualm which the game's director, Motomu Toriyama, claims to be a hang-up that's native to Western audiences and reviewers.

During a recent interview with Xbox World 360 magazine (via CVG), Toriyama explained, "we think many reviewers are looking at Final Fantasy XIII from a western point of view." He later added, "when you look at most Western RPGs, they just dump you in a big open world, and let you do whatever you like... it becomes very difficult to tell a compelling story when you're given that much freedom." We'd advise Toriyama to take caution when badmouthing freedom, lest he wants to become the subject of a scathing Toby Keith song.

That right there is the full list of video game nominations in the ‘Favorite Video Game’ category for the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Looks like Nintendo and Nickelodeon pair up really well! Thanks to Mr.Raccoon for the heads up.

Reader Gaming_Bum is a proud Nook owner, and he uses the two images above as backgrounds on his device. Looks like the ‘Nook on Nook’ idea is one that is spreading quite rapidly! With that said, I’d have to say that I’m partial to that beautiful Legend of Zelda theme.

The BAFTA awards represent a rare opportunity to get the thrill of watching your favorite high-profile games rack up more plaudits long after the end of the year. They also represent the opinions of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, but whatever. The nominations for the 2009 awards have been released, with mostly unsurprising games occupying the "Best Game" category -- Batman, Assassin's Creed II, Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Joystiq.com Game of the Year 2009 Uncharted 2 -- and FIFA 2009.

In the "people's choice" GAME Awards, all of the Best Game nominees but Left 4 Dead 2 make repeat appearances, joined by The Beatles: Rock Band, GTA Chinatown Wars, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Street Fighter IV, and Wii Sports Resort. "Everyone's" tastes are much more diverse! See more nominations for specific genres and achievements at the BAFTA site. The winners will be revealed in an award ceremony on March 19.

Game cakes have overstayed their welcome, I think. I’m still down with posting some amazing cake creations, but I think full articles dedicated to the confectionery designs are getting a bit tiresome. If only we could taste the cakes that these articles talk about. That would surely make them more interesting!

As you see in the BBFC listing above, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is going to be a rather cut-scene heavy affair. Hopefully those 90 minutes are entertaining! If not, you might be able to switch over to Prince of Persia: Classic, which hit XBLA/PSN awhile back. This inclusion in the [...]

Here’s a pretty interesting idea that I think would please all Sonic fans out there. Why can’t SEGA let old-school Sonic and new Sonic co-exist? There’s no reason why SEGA can’t have different versions of Sonic for different game types. Look at how Nintendo handles the design of Mario in the Paper [...]

We've been big supporters of BioWare and EA's approach to churning out lots of DLC for its new releases, but it seems to have hit a serious snag this morning. Due apparently to some scheduled downtime for BioWare's social site, players have been unable to download DLC from Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network (unfortunate, but understandable) and some have been completely unable to play Dragon Age: Origins -- kind of a big issue for a single-player game.

Near as we can figure with our limited staff testing, the Dragon Age issue might involve whether or not you chose to submit your feedback and character profile data to Bioware.com. We'll keep up with the situation and let you know when it's resolved. The server maintenance was scheduled to end at 9 a.m. EST, so here's hoping it'll pass soon.

The public health unit in London, Ontario has put together a trivia-based video game called Adventures in Sex City, a sort of comic-book inspired quiz with some ... stiff penalties for failure. You can play it here, but if you're at work, you probably shouldn't.

According to Shaya Dhinsa, manager of sexual health at the Middlesex-London Health Unit, the game is "a launching pad for the discussion." So, if you're not at work, maybe you and we can have a frank, NSFW video discussion about this game right after the break.

Sure, you could guess that it was sex, drugs or rock and roll that addled Whitesnake vocalist David Coverdale's mind so much that he can't recall with any clarity which music game franchise he recently approved the band's "Here I Go Again" and "Still of the Night" for. And you'd probably be right -- if anyone took too many drugs and rocked a little too hard in the late '80s, it was probably Coverdale.

But don't jump to conclusions. Did you ever consider that maybe he was choosing to make a statement about the genre and its recent creative stagnation? Perhaps by saying, "I can't remember which one," he was actually opining that we haven't seen any real innovation in the "strum on the note" experience since the first Rock Band added other instruments. Perhaps Coverdale was actually calling for both Harmonix and Neversoft to reach out for originality, distinguish themselves and their respective games, and stop releasing copy after copy of what are essentially the same experiences. It was either that, or the too many drugs thing.
