Heads up, dear readers -- we know you're excited to check out the recently released Assassin's Creed 2 DLC, Bonfire of the Vanities, but before you blindly snatch up the new content from your console's designated online marketplace, make sure you check the descriptions. There are actually two different versions of the Bonfire DLC: one that includes the new Bonfire of the Vanities game sequence and the three secret Templar lairs which were included in the game's "Black Edition" (560 / $6.99); and one that only comes with the new sequence (320 / $3.99).

Make sure you purchase the one that suits your needs! We'd hate for your enjoyment of the new stabbing opportunities to be sullied by buyer's remorse.

[Thanks, Rene.]

Nintendo may be holding back a new entry in the Pilotwings series…or they might not be. Either way, we can still play and thoroughly enjoy the original title. From music to gameplay, this game is a real treat. One of the odd gems of the SNES lineup.

As you can see with this week’s chart, all three of Nintendo’s big Wii titles are dropping a bit in the Amazon charts. I wonder if we’re going to see some sales in the near future.

During last week's X10 event in San Francisco, I previewed the latest build of Remedy's third-person supernatural action-thriller, Alan Wake. The scene I played takes place later in the game (not the beginning), so any chance of getting wrapped up in the mystery of the over-arching storyline was not happening; not to mention the demo was relatively short and, oh, the fact that I was preoccupied by the axe-wielding maniac chasing me.

A representative gave me a brief recap of what had brought Wake to the specific location of the demo level, where the scene kicked off with a "Previously on Alan Wake ... " montage -- like we'd seen before at E3 2009 -- but most of it made little sense out of context. The only thing I was sure of was that I needed to escape from the car I'd just crashed after swerving to avoid someone in the road (who, of course, vanished when Wake looked in his rear-view). After I climbed out, Wake's voice-over cued me to head through the woods to reach a gas station and get help. That's when things started to get really weird.

LucasArts is set to invade PlayStation Home with a bunch of new virtual goods and a space to hang out in. Without all of the crime and sudden de-limbing that goes on in the Mos Eisley Cantina, the LucasArts storefront will offer patrons a safe environment to purchase virtual goods -- sorry, no power converters available.

Here's the list of goodies:
  • Yoda shirt (for male avatars)
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi shirt (for male and female avatars)
  • Jedi Order shirt (for male and female avatars)
  • Indiana Jones costume - torso, pants, shoes
  • Indiana Jones costume - hat, hair
  • Stormtrooper costume (for male and female avatars)
  • Imperial Officer costume (for male and female avatars)
  • Blue Lightsaber (for male and female avatars)
  • Jedi banner (for avatar personal space)
  • Sith banner (for avatar personal space)
  • Star Wars The Force Unleashed poster (for avatar personal space)
LucasArts promises more updates to come. In the meanwhile, feel free to peruse select avatar items in our gallery below, but there may be a slight chance these aren't the images you're looking for.

The latest trailer for Yakuza 3 (after the break) purportedly introduces the characters in the upcoming PS3 crime drama, but unless you're already familiar with the series, it's going to be a bunch of incomprehensible Japanese names, listed by affiliation with incomprehensibly-named crime families. However, if you take it as a few minutes of badasses glowering (and taking care of children) and slapping dudes, it's pretty entertaining.

If you're in Europe, you can step into Kazuma Kiryu's shoes right now with the demo. With any luck, North America will be able to join you in those increasingly crowded shoes later today.

Rising Star Games may not have announced it yet, but they didn’t have to. A German rating for Rune Factory 2 has already popped up, and the game is cleared for players 6 and above. With the rating already in place, one would think that a publishing announcement shouldn’t be too far off. [...]
