A new study from market research firm Strategy Analytics says that video game revenues will continue to grow over the next three years, with the biggest balloon consisting of revenues from online games. SA says that online game revenues will expand 18.7% annually, resulting in a $24.8 billion part of the industry that will account for 38% of total video game revenue across the board. As a professional economic analyst would say, mama mia, that's a spicy meatball!
No, we're kidding -- actual professional economic analyst Martin Olausson says that "more gaming devices and games are being connected online and new online revenue models are appearing on the market," which is probably a little bit more insightful than a reference to an old commercial. But don't count out traditional game sales just yet -- SA says that while online games and digital downloads will grow, so will purchases of physical game media as well. By 2013, they're projecting revenue of $64.9 billion for the market as a whole, compared to $46.5 billion in 2009. The video game industry will be able to buy all of the Alka-Seltzer it'll ever need.
