In this week's meat-related game news, Super Meat Boy devs "Team Meat" (a.k.a. Edmund McMillen and a few others) has confirmed the game's release for XBLA with the above screen via its Twitter account. The studio further confirmed the news to IGN, who also found out that the team is hoping for a summer release. According to the report, SMB will find his way into thousands of inglorious deaths on the Xbox 360 first, with WiiWare and PC/Mac support coming afterward. No PSN release was announced, but the team would say that it has the little meaty platformer up and running on a PlayStation 3 dev kit.

The reason for the move is said to be at least in part due to the space restrictions enforced by Nintendo and Microsoft, with the latter offering more space and thus more options for extra content. Super Meat Boy is claimed to be "about half finished," with the game's developers hoping for a summer release, just in time for grill season. Talk about synergy!

At this point, nothing has really been confirmed about this whole "DS2" thing -- motion-sensitivity and snazzy graphics were both apparently hinted at by Iwata (via Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun). Later, he said those statements were "misinterpretations," but it hasn't kept some from thinking Nintendo's prepping a new handheld for sometime later this year

Now, the latest chapter in this ongoing tale comes from a January 28 update to a Nintendo patent from back in 2005, which describes a system of force feedback (aka rumble) produced by an interaction between an apparatus (likely a stylus) and a LCD touch-screen. The vibration is presented as dynamic, with the example being that an enemy being struck with a stick in the background only vibrates the device lightly, whereas interaction with an enemy in the foreground produces a stronger vibration.

Current Nintendo handhelds have no such built-in functionality, leading many to believe this is in reference to brand-new hardware -- a possible DS successor -- and with GDC and E3 quickly approaching, if it's coming, an announcement likely isn't that far off. We'll keep you posted.

As you may have gathered from the lack of a Virtual Console release in the the latest NintendoWare Weekly update, there won't be a VC in Brief video today. The disturbance in your heart lack of a new VC game is probably confirmation enough, but in the interest of "playing it safe," we present this post ...

Yeah, so, it's by no means a suitable substitute, however, if you're itching for some video to watch, check out the VC in Brief archive. It'll bring up, like, a bunch of videos!

“We knew we weren’t making a realistic survivor horror game to compete with the other titles out there like Resident Evil or Dead Space, because the roots of House of the Dead is arcade. We needed to make everything exaggerated, almost unbelievable. And that was really what centralized the game. A crazy story that [...]

Fanboys will likely never agree on whether or not a 3D gameworld is appropriate for the Castlevania franchise. But if Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producer Dave Cox is to be believed, there won't be any forum bloodshed over which version, the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 one, looks and runs better.

Cox told VG247 that the PS3 was chosen as the lead platform solely because that was the best way for developer Mercury Steam to make both versions of the game identical, though he understands the risk, admitting, "If you develop for Xbox 360 and port to PS3, or indeed vice versa, you can end up with a game that is great on one but lousy on another."

Even if Lords of Shadow isn't up for any GOTYs, perhaps a Nobel Peace Prize could be in Mercury Steam's future? The NPPOTY, if you will.

With a lengthy campaign, multiplayer mode and a new rewind feature, the XBLA iteration of Duke Nukem 3D is arguably the best installment in the franchise, and easily the most ... well, released. Fortunately, the pig-mutant massacring simulator is the current Xbox Live Deal of the Week, and has its price temporarily reduced from 800 ($10) to 400 ($5).

We'd suggest checking the game out right now, as whatever player base it might still possess is probably going to get stolen away when that other revamped shooter comes out on XBLA next month.
