Why did it take Nintendo a year and a half to localize a bunch of books that were already in English? No idea, but at least we'll finally be able to buy the 100 Classic Book Collection in North America this year. It's out as 100 Classic Books on June 14, at a cost of $19.99.

Nintendo has yet to release a list of the included novels in this version, but we expect it to be identical to the European release. In other words, the greatest hits of the public domain.

When we review a game without finishing it, we call it a Snap Judgment. Read why here.
Time played: 4 hours

I was in for a surprise as I set out for The Secret Armory of General Knoxx with a level 50 character, because as beefy as I thought my Siren was, she couldn't stand up to what was waiting for me at T-Bone Junction and beyond. Basically, I died. All of the time. I went from having around four million dollars in my bank account down to under a million before I even gained my first level in the DLC -- the hefty cost of respawning in the wilds of Pandora. And that's what made this whole thing so odd.

The expansion -- which is intended to give you some more mileage out of your maxed-out characters by raising the level cap to 61 -- continues from the end of the Borderlands story, so playing it before finishing the game proper is not advised. I finished my second playthrough with a level 50 character, so to start this add-on and run into such a wall, such constantly merciless opposition, was pretty perplexing.

If you've been looking for a way to tease your brain into an overloaded, catatonic state while on the go, Nintendo and HAL Laboratory will soon deliver an application that should aid in your endeavor. Picross 3D, the DS puzzle game that hit Japanese retail last March, will be released on May 3 in North America.

The announcement came during today's Nintendo Media Summit and added that the game would receive DLC in the form of extra puzzles, à la Professor Layton. With continued support like that, Picross 3D could be capable of frying our brains for the foreseeable future. We can't wait.

Now, we know what you're thinking. "Oh, Rockstar's released a trailer featuring the female protagonists in Red Dead Redemption. We're guessing there's a scantily-clad burlesque dancer with a heart of gold, a scantily-clad cowgirl with a heart of gold and a fiery, scantily-clad revolutionista with a heart of gold." Well, you're awfully close -- just replace all three instances of "scantily-clad" with "completely badass," and you're a bit closer to the truth.

Check out the trailer above to see Red Dead Redemption's reasonably-dressed femme fatales spit some sass and shoot some dudes.

There wasn't as much DSiWare stuff on display at Nintendo Media Summit as there was WiiWare, but Nintendo did announce three new games. Photo Dojo is Japan's Photo Fighter X, the bizarre two-player fighting game made out of your photographs. Metal Torrent, as you may have heard, is a localized version of Aa! Mujou Setsuna, a vertical shooter from Arika.

X-Scape (above), fascinatingly, is a super-stylish first-person tank game from Q-Games, a sequel to the vintage Game Boy game X. You can see screens and video of all of them after the break.

No, it's not Metroid or Mario or even Sin & Punishment, but ask yourself one question: Will any of those games teach you how to create your own sustenance? Unless you're planning on cooking up some fried Skree with your arm-mounted energy cannon, the answer is no. So, since even the most avid gamers get tired of ramen and Red Bull, Nintendo presents America's Test Kitchen: Let's Get Cooking for the DS. The "game" teaches you how to make real food and, bizarrely, was developed by Indies Zero, the same folks that brought us Retro Game Challenge.

It contains 300 recipes provided by America's Test Kitchen, which you may have seen on public television. The game supports voice controls and multiple profiles, allowing different members of the family (or dorm, commune, etc.) to take on different tasks required by each recipe. It also includes age settings, just in case you're not quite ready for little Timmy to handle the meat cleaver. And, for the cooking impaired, America's Test Kitchen even includes handy tutorial videos to explain the more difficult bits.

America's Test Kitchen hits shelves March 28 for $19.99.

Nintendo certainly knows no end on iterating on its franchises. Yet, we can't help but think that WarioWare D.I.Y. will be the last game of the microgame franchise. Don't think of that as a bad thing. Nintendo's Intelligent Systems has truly outdone themselves with D.I.Y., mixing a full-fledged sequel with a creation tool that's, quite frankly, much too comprehensive.

Players that lack the creative drive to make their own levels will still appreciate what D.I.Y. has to offer: More than 90 pre-made games are included on the cartridge, and WarioWare vets will find themselves in rather familiar territory. The seconds-long micro-games stream in quick succession, giving players mere moments to respond to the one-to-three word directives. Progression is reminiscent of previous games in the franchise, with new collections of games unlocking after "boss" rounds.

Of course, what makes D.I.Y. the potential end-all for the WarioWare franchise is the ability to download new user-created levels into the cartridge. Potentially, you'll be able to download an infinite number of games, provided they fit into the cartridge's allocated memory. (You'll be able to keep 90 additional games at one time.) You'll be able to download new levels wirelessly, but there is a caveat: only Nintendo-approved "best submissions" will be available for download freely over a Wi-Fi connection. Otherwise, you'll be relegated to trading with friends via a local wireless connection or ... the Nintendo Wi-Fi Friend Code system.
