"Traditional motion capture could never bring to life the subtle nuances of the chaotic criminal underworld of L.A. Noire in the same way as MotionScan," claims Team Bondi's Brendan McNamara, commenting on MotionScan. It's the new motion capture technology being employed first by his studio's moody crime game, L.A. Noire. In a press release yesterday, Depth Analysis announced the new tech and touted its many applications in the forthcoming Rockstar title.

Allegedly, MotionScan uses "32 high-definition cameras to capture true-to-life three-dimensional performances at up to 30 frames per second," thus allowing for the supposedly "emotional performances" that McNamara says make L.A. Noire "a truly unique and revolutionary game." Aside from the claims of higher quality, the mocap system supposedly has lower operation costs due to a streamlined post-production processing time. With any luck, we'll finally see all this big talk in action -- and compare ir with other performance-capture scenes in games like Uncharted 2, Alan Wake and Heavy Rain -- this September when the game arrives on store shelves.

We know that there are a few cutlery enthusiasts out there who read that headline and immediately clicked the source link to purchase Kratos' Blade of Chaos from retailer BUDK. Before you do so, you should take into account a few facts:

Kratos' weapons are being sold piecemeal on the site, so that $123.99 price tag only represents the cost of a single Blade. What's the point of having a single Blade of Chaos? Unless you're ironically cosplaying as Amputee Kratos, you're going to need two, so you should mentally jack that price up to $247.98. Replica swords are dangerous. Replica swords that you attach to your wrists with chains and then swing around like a madman are extremely dangerous.

Hi Everyone!

In the last Patchwork Heroes blog post, Brian Chou introduced you to the world of Patchwork Heroes…and YES, it’s a very unique game that’s difficult to describe. Coming from our very creative minds at PlayStation in Japan who brought you titles like LocoRoco, Patapon, and echochrome, this is another unique title unlike anything you’ve played before. Thankfully you’ll be able to discover the unique wit and charm of this game soon, because the demo will be available Tomorrow, right here on the Playstation Network.

For those of you that can’t wait, or want to know more about the game before the demo hits, here’s a short description to whet your appetite. You play as Titori, the squad leader of a rag-tag airborne demolition team tasked with defending your small town from an armada of flying battleships. Out-manned, out-gunned, and OUT OF YOUR MIND, you must drop in on these mechanical behemoths and dismantle them piece by piece with nothing more than your hammer, saw, and keen insight on destruction. To make matters worse, these juggernauts are defended by robotic insects bent on taking you out and keeping their ships flying. Fortunately for you, there are a variety of power-ups to make your job easier: among them, bombs to take out hard points and a clock stopper to freeze time and bypass enemies.

I know a lot of people were trying to figure out the genre of the game – the best I can do is describe it as sort of an action-puzzle game. As for the art style, I think it’s perfect – it’s kind of Potemkinesque and reflects the utilitarian nature of these Patchwork Heroes. And, yes, this game is chock full of whimsical humor :)

We’re working on a trailer to show you what the game looks like in action and hope to have it ready in the very near future. But be sure to check out the demo so you can judge for yourself!

Look for more news on the full game, coming soon to the Playstation Network, here on the PS.Blog. I hope you enjoy the demo and the game as much as we enjoyed making it!

We've never been great counters, but we'd say there are three studios working on major Call of Duty games now. A recent internal memo (as reported by G4) apparently confirms that Infinity Ward -- despite all of the recent stuff going down there -- will remain "central" to the franchise. So, counting that studio and Treyarch, along with Sledgehammer Games and its own Call of Duty title, that's ... four three! The Count would be so proud of us!

This internal memo reportedly comes from CEO of Activision Publishing Mike Griffith, who said, "Infinity Ward remains central to Call of Duty's future" and that Activision would continue to "rely on the combined talent, expertise and leadership of the team there for [Call of Duty's] success."

There may be a disappointing lack of beer and laser-shooting owls in this new set of screenshots from The Flying Hamster. But don't worry, the game still looks absolutely insane. The upcoming side-scrolling shooter for the PSP stars -- what else? -- an adorable flying hamster, as he makes his way through levels clearly designed by a Mad Libs book. Seriously, what's going on in this image? We have no idea.

Check out the rest of the images in our gallery below. The Flying Hamster should be available for download via the PlayStation Network later this year.

[iBase Entertainment] Apogee and Icarus Studios have announced a new "action comedy" game called Sam Suede in Undercover Exposure. No platforms were noted, but Icarus's past developments have all been PC-based (with the exception of Dexter on iPhone). In fact, nothing at all was said about the content of the game other than the title and a characterization as a "comedic twist on the action-adventure genre."

If the title sounds familiar, you're probably an adventure game nerd. Leisure Suit Larry creator Al Lowe was working on a game with the exact same title, which was cancelled in 2006 when developer iBase Entertainment shut down. The fact that a new company has announced that it will complete the title should be encouraging to Lowe fans -- but the fact that the legendary Sierra game designer's name is mentioned nowhere in the announcement is probably not so encouraging.

With the Blur multiplayer beta coming any day now, we're anxious to get some quality time with Bizarre Creations' upcoming racer. In the interim, the game's official blog details what players can expect from the beta, but perhaps more interesting is what's tucked at the bottom of the update: a release date of May 25. Europeans will have to wait a few extra days, as the game won't be in shops until May 28 over there.

While you wait, might we suggest you check out some new screens in our gallery below? That is, if you want to -- no pressure or anything!

I’m Alex, CEO of Boolat Games. From now on I’ll be with you to share all the news from Boolat Games studio. Firstly, I’m happy to announce that the second episode of our PS3 exclusive, puzzle-oriented platformer Topatoi will be releasing on the PlayStation Store tomorrow. Take a whirligig under control and fasten your seat belts.

4398327581_c888a4d08b.jpg

As we already informed you, Topatoi: Pillar of the Skies introduces an absolutely new mechanical world and a plenty of new features. Check out the gameplay video to get a glimpse of what’s coming out your way:

If you’re expecting to read about all the cool features of Pillar of the Skies, check out our previous European post. So I’ll pass on the storyline we described earlier and move to the most important thing – the core gameplay — I believe it would be most interesting for all you guys. So Topatoi is a platformer, but as you might have noticed, it differs from a classic platformer for a few reasons. First of all, it introduces the freedom of a 3D world like most of the latest adventure games. But the main difference here is that you have no character to control, but a whirligig vehicle that you drive. You’ll learn the controls for convenient driving, and in Topatoi, controls are quite simple – you can spin your whirligig up or down:

  • High Spin Rate = High Speed & Long Jumps BUT Difficult Controls
  • Low Spin Rate = Low Speed & Short Jumps BUT Sensitive Controls

4399094076_f002dc015f_m.jpg 4399093764_7dc96ca7c7_m.jpg

As you can see, it makes classic controls tricky and adds an element of racing, but it’s fun.

So spin, feel spin and control spin are really valuable here! Want to jump as long as you can? Spin up your vehicle! Want to stop? Drop your spin rate to zero! Follow those rules and you’ll pass all 34 levels of Topatoi and earn the 19 trophies it has to offer.

Stay tuned, share your thoughts, ask your questions here or through Topatoi’s group on Facebook and have fun.

Huh? What do you think you're doing? You're reading a post that has "shows jet packs" in the headline? When you know that there's a Halo Reach beta trailer (leaked by a Taiwanese site called GNN) right after the break? We're just going to assume you've already watched it, because any other scenario speaks ill of your mental stability.

That said ... DUDE! Jet packs! Assassinations! Load outs! New modes! The only feature Bungie forgot to list that was also included in the trailer? Like 50 million boners.

This is the part where we have to say that since it's not official, we don't know for a fact it's real. But if it's not on the level, it's the most elaborate video hoax in all of human kind (except for the moon landing). Tell you what, you let us worry about stuff like that. Meanwhile, why don't you start digging through the clip and let us know what else you find in the comments?

Update: We've replaced the leaked video that was posted after the break with the now officially released trailer above and added one new piece of art in the gallery below. Good news: The trailer's still got jet packs!
