Even with staggered March release, Mega Man 10 still a Wii exclusive for another week. By that logic, it makes perfect sense that Capcom would hold a launch event this Sunday for the game at the Nintendo World Story in NYC -- almost a week after its WiiWare release.
If you're on the island of Manhattan this weekend, head on over to the Nintendo World Store near 30 Rock at 11AM for swag -- wait, not swag. You'll have to purchase a 2,000 point Wii card and Capcom will give you a T-shirt. The store will also give out posters with a purchase -- not of the game, of course, because that's only available online. So, let's get this straight: this post-launch event will sell a T-shirt with purchase of something that Mega Man fans would have needed last week. Do we have that right? Hey, at least the fans can use those points on the incoming DLC.
As part of its latest financial results report today, Take-Two delayed Red Dead Redemption by several weeks. Previously scheduled to arrive on April 27, the game is now slated to release in North America on May 18 and internationally on May 21. The announcement doesn't specify a reason for the move, though it's worth pointing out that the new date moves Red Dead Redemption out of the publisher's fiscal Q2 (February-April) and into its third quarter (beginning May 1). [Update: During an investor call corresponding with the financial report, Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick clarified that the delay was issued to extend the game's pre-release marketing period.]
Take-Two also notes that financial guidance for its fiscal 2010 has been adjusted to take the date change into account. While Read Dead Redemption was at the center of a controversy concerning developer Rockstar San Diego, a barrage of recent media assets and confirmation of retail pre-order bonuses seems to indicate that development is on track.

If you were planning to ignore the Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year edition (perhaps you're still stinging from the disappointing collector's release) you may not want to stop caring just yet. While we're unexcited by the promise of "six additional maps" on the disc (there are six available for download at the moment -- we have to assume those are the same ones), we're intrigued by CVG's report that the box will include special glasses for use with a newly added TriOviz 3D effect.
The TriOviz tech, if you're unfamiliar, works with regular HD and SD sets, and doesn't rely on red and blue lenses, meaning colors are preserved. We'd love to give it a shot, but not so much that we'd rebuy Arkham Asylum to do so. Here's hoping there's a way for us early adopters to check out this new dimension of institutional insanity.

It's not that the first screens from Shinji MIkami and Platinum Games' Vanquish look bad necessarily -- far from it. It's just that ... well, they look a little common, don't they? We've flipped through that gallery below a few times but couldn't find an image that got us even a little more excited for the futuristic shooter than we were yesterday.
It wouldn't be so bad if that first trailer for the game hadn't seemed like such a breath of fresh air. Oh well, these are just a few still images. Let's withhold judgment until we see it in action, hmm?

According to Gamasutra, a recently released report from the NPD Group claims online gaming increased by 10 percent in 2009. Furthermore, the number of games purchased via digital distribution increased by 20 percent in the same period, marking a 19 percent increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, the number of gamers that play online decreased by 2 percent. The overall increase in online gaming was the result of gamers playing online longer -- an average of eight hours per week, up from 7.3 the previous year.
Breaking it down by platform, the PC sees the most use overall with 85 percent of PC owners playing online. Among gaming consoles, the Xbox takes the online cake, with 43 percent playing it online. The PS3 and Wii both tie at 30 percent, though it's worth noting that PS3 online use is up 10 percent over the previous year.
The question has to be asked: What are all those Wii owners playing? There can't be that many copies of Mario Kart Wii out there. Oh, wait ...
