Shin'en, developer of the DS Nanostray games, as well as the recent WiiWare release Art of Balance, has announced a new 3D platformer for WiiWare. Jett Rocket looks like your basic 3D platformer, but slightly smaller in scale, with three areas of the planet Yoroppa to explore. It looks impressive, with graphics that recall Super Mario Galaxy.

With a name like Jett Rocket, you'd expect some kind of powered vehicles, and the game features three: a paraglider, a "Jet Boat," and a "Jet Snowboard." Wouldn't that melt all the snow?

“The vertical note highway is actually a patent that is owned by another company, and so while we’re kind of frustrated as creators and developers that we have to kind of work around a legal system in order to make a game, it worked out for us since we wanted to horizontal.” - Epicenter’s Bryan [...]

If there's one thing we could use more of in the first half of 2010, it's more Euro-centric soccer games. It's convenient for us then that Ubisoft today announced Pure Futbol coming to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this May. As you can see in the trailer above, the game looks to take soccer from the stadium to the local park, while at the same time keeping the professional players and losing referees for (as far as we can tell) a more arcade-style sports game feel.

Pure Futbol's announcement release corroborates our take on the trailer with a tagline that reads, "No referees, no rules - just soccer." It also further details your choice of footers, elaborating that "230 elite soccer players, 17 international teams, and 17 legendary players" are included, though you can also sculpt your own star from bits and polygons, if you so choose, which can then be shared/traded with friends online. Will we finally be able to live out the dream of playing as a team full of Ezio Auditore lookalikes engaged in fierce battle with a team full of Prince of Persia lookalikes? For now, all we can do is hope.

Man…I don’t know about this one. That’s a pretty convincing argument for the dual timeline theory if true. Now I need to go back and play Twilight Princess just to see it for myself!

Did you ever let Mario Kart 64 sit on the ‘Winning Theme’ screen for a few minutes? I know that I have…but I never left it for 50 minutes. If you do, you’re treated to this little tune!

In what it says is a reaction to Apple's growing footprint in portable gaming, the Wall Street Journal reports that Sony is prepping a 2010 launch of a smartphone and an iPad competitor -- said to be "a portable device that blurs distinctions among a netbook, an e-reader and a PlayStation Portable" -- both capable of running PS1 games. The paper cites "people familiar with the matter" as its sources, which have also told it that the devices will work with Sony's iTunes Store challenger, the Sony Online Service, that launches this month.

The WSJ also reports that the phone is being developed in conjunction with Sony Ericsson, with Sony proper being much more involved in the design of the device over past projects, due to the company's growing focus on smartphones and other mobile platforms. Development is said to be under the direction of Senior Vice President Kunimasa Suzuki, who acts as a deputy to PlayStation boss Kaz Hirai in Sony's gaming and Network Products & Services divisions.

Of course, this isn't the first time we've heard talk of a fabled "PlayStation Phone," and likely won't be the last -- hopefully the next time there's news, it will come in the form of an official product announcement by Sony.

THQ is bundling Red Faction: Guerrilla with UK copies of Metro 2033 on PC for the game's launch on March 19. To repeat, this has only been announced in the UK for the PC version of the post-apocalyptic Moscow metro romp. We're currently checking with THQ to see if a similar deal is planned for the States; in the meantime you can pick up Red Faction: Guerrilla for free now with a Steam pre-order of Metro 2033.

With a new Red Faction not that far off in the future, it appears that THQ wants to make sure everyone gets a chance to play last year's underrated entry.

As promised, the Just Cause 2 demo is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. While this post was written as a reminder of that fact, the game itself also serves as a reminder. You see, it reminds just how incredibly handy grappling hooks are. Watching the various trailers released for the game thus far, it's kind of hard to imagine starting a revolution without one. Just remember to bring your parachute.
