Whether it be the DS Lite or the DSi, Nintendo has announced a spate of Nintendo DS hardware spin-offs in the last few years. The Nintendo 3DS is not a spin-off. It's worth pointing out, you know. More »

So, there's new Nintendo hardware on the way. It's a 3D handheld system. How, though, will that 3D work? Maybe a recent obscure DSi release offers some clues. More »
A press release over on Nintendo's website appears to confirm the company's next handheld console. It is temporarily named the "Nintendo 3DS," and is said to include hardware and software that will enable "3D effects" without needing any glasses. The console is said to be backwards compatible with DS and DSi games, and is expected to go on sale (in Japan, presumably) "during the fiscal year ending March 2011" -- so within the next year. The press release has no pictures or other information, and save for the fact that it appears as a file on Nintendo's website, there's no other official information about the new hardware.
There are a few dots to connect, however -- 3D gaming is on the rise, and a few other companies have also experimented with head tracking as a way to implement 3D effects. Nintendo's own Satoru Iwata hasn't been impressed with 3D gaming in the past, but his issue is with the glasses, not the technology: "I have doubts whether people will be wearing glasses to play games at home," he said recently. We've also heard that the next handheld would have a "movement sensor" of some kind, so if Nintendo really has designed a head-tracking 3D solution, then maybe the console is ready to go. The press release, which you can read after the break in full, says we'll see more at E3, so stay tuned.

Reader Glenn just noticed that Kmart's Sunday ad has the just-about-released Just Cause 2 listed for the low price of just $44.99. The offer is just available for the dates of March 23-27, so just as soon as the game releases, you can just run on over to the store and just walk away with the game after paying just $45. The police can't even stop you -- your actions will be just.
Just saying -- it's just a really good deal. Even if you pick the game up just for kicks, a price like that is just wonderful. We're not sure why Kmart is selling the game so cheap, but why question it? Just consider this your just deserts.

While Portal's clean white rooms were the visual star of the first game, Chell, the player's character in the game, was also memorable. For Portal 2, however, that trademark orange jumpsuit has gone straight out the window. More »

Not the device itself. The Natal peripheral is a small, slender add-on. But Microsoft has apparently told a group of journalists, including Techflash.com, that some space is required to use the motion controls. More »
This little blurb comes from the WarioWare D.I.Y. video that we posted directly below. You can see Sakurai make his game, and talk about video game creation in general. I can’t wait to download his creation!

Look, folks, we'll level with you -- we feel a bit silly writing about this "soft, realistic" football attachment for Wiimotes. How do we adequately introduce CTA's "Soft-football for Wii" when the picture above (it's sold sans attachable MotionPlus, mind you) already says so much?
Now, you might be thinking to yourself, "This thing sounds like pure madness, but I feel like I've heard about someone imagining exactly the same thing before." And you'd be right, as Nintendo filed a patent for just such a peripheral last year. Beaten by CTA? Why'd you drop the ball, Nintendo?

Not to be beaten by Kick-Ass: The Game, Sony Computer Entertainment will be the first publisher to expand PS3's built-in Facebook functionality with a new patch to Buzz! Quiz World (available today). The patch will allow players to publish various updates from within the game, such as high scores and end game results.
As with Facebook connectivity with the PlayStation Store, all updates will be optional, giving players the choice of whether to publish these items to their walls. Don't go too crazy with that big red button on the Buzz! controller.
When we last played R.U.S.E., we weren't shy about expressing our initial difficulty with the game's steep learning curve. After all, the game is a deep real-time strategy title and still in beta (set for release on June 8). It's extra nice, then, that senior producer Mathieu Girard and creative director Alexis Le Dressay created this eight-minute-long walkthrough of the various gameplay options at your fingertips in the public beta.
From faking army advances to the importance of reconnaissance, Girard and Le Dressay will have you up to speed on the forthcoming game's variety of tactics in no time. There are even subtitles for those among us who don't speak French-accented English or haven't played Heavy Rain -- talk about accessible!
