The collective biomass of indie developers who (up until recently) had been working hard on an unofficial sequel to the King's Quest series are organizing with an intent to purchase the intellectual property from Activision. Phoenix Online Studios -- developers of The Silver Lining -- had been hit with a cease-and-desist order late last month.
Speaking with Joystiq at PAX East 2010, co-project director and art director Richard Flores revealed that if an online movement to reverse Activision's decision to stop production on the title was unsuccessful, the development team would attempt to purchase the license from Activision.
It's been a while since an old school JRPG has made its way to the PSP. Thankfully, Atlus is readying a new game to scratch that level grinding itch. Developed by Yggdra Union's Sting, this video has every trope you'd expect from a RPG developed in the 32 bit era. From dialog portraits to magic spells cast in turn-based battles, this video will transport you to a long-lost era of gaming. Hexyz Force is coming out on UMD on May 25th.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment started reading Chapter 11 last month, and now a court-appointed official has taken control of the company's assets, which includes Stargate Resistance. The game has been sold off and will continue to be supported. More »
"Do you think that there is a future version of Resistance, Resistance 3, being developed?" Without a doubt, this is one of the strangest questions in a recent survey sent by PlayStation to its fans. Since the appearance of a mysterious billboard advertising a sequel to Insomniac Games' FPS franchise in October, fans have questioned not if -- but when -- Resistance 3 would be officially announced.
The follow-up question is meant to gauge interest in a possible third game (also mentioned in an artist resume), a puzzling proposition considering a sequel seems guaranteed. Insomniac's track record with holiday releases on PS3 has been nearly impeccable -- alternating between Resistance and Ratchet and Clank games like clockwork. Should Resistance 3 continue this pattern, we wouldn't be surprised if the game were announced some time soon, to launch on PS3 by the holiday. Unfortunately, this survey offers no conclusive evidence of whether or not that will be true.

The Nintendo DS…Nintendo DS Lite…Nintendo DSi…and now the Nintendo DSi XL. We all know that Nintendo loves to revise and perfect their portable platforms, but these releases seemed to come in quite rapid succession. The original DS phat hit the market back in 2004, and now we’re three revisions down the road. [...]
I don’t care what we get of the Battletoads license…I just want it to return. If RARE can only manage a remake for the DS, that’s just fine by me. Just give me some more Battletoads, damnit!

Until PAX East kicked in Nintendo's new handhelds - the upcoming 3DS and the arrival of the DSi XL - told the tale of the week's big news. Paid DLC, as always, also pushed buttons among the week's top stories. More »
Do I think that Olivia Munn is a gorgeous girl? Yes I do…but I don’t want to see her doing hot dog tricks on a video game show. I know that Attack of the Show isn’t all about video games, but some parts of it are supposed to be. Why can’t we [...]
How much gaming can you stand in a single day? How many cosplayers are you willing to get trampled by? How many video game industry panels are you going to sit in on? This is what PAX is all about, and the first East Coast edition is no different. There were [...]

Another week goes by with The Conduit lagging about, and Call of Duty holding its own. There’s no doubt that Modern Warfare Reflex has held its own on the charts…it’s a slow-burner. I can’t wait to see if we get another Call of Duty this year.
I totally agree with this choice. I’d love to play some more Anticipation in video game form! I think I might go back and play the original today! That would make for a fun live-stream, don’t you think?

EA Mythic is making an even stronger push to try to hook trial players on Warhammer Online, allowing them to upgrade their copy of the game without requiring them to visit a tangible, brick-and-mortar retailer. Now, players who partake in the "endless" free trial can access the title's full portfolio of quests, areas, and baddies by simply subscribing to the game -- purchasing the client itself is no longer necessary.
Of course, the retail version of the game comes with a free month-long subscription, so it's not that huge a savings. Still, you now have the option of upgrading your account without interrupting your zealous Realm vs. Realm campaign.
The problem with the Easter weekend is that it's one of the many holidays celebrated the world over without presents. Like, how can you enjoy your time off of school or work or whatever without a hot new gametape to solve? Well, thanks to Toys R Us' buy one, get one half-off sale, you just may be able to.
On April 2 and 3, stores nationwide, as well as the retailer's site, will offer the sale on its entire stock of video games -- among other, non-gaming goods. That means you could buy a copy of Dragon Age: Origins and snag Awakening for half-off. Or you could pick up a couple copies of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and get a friend in the mix for relatively cheap. Sharing is caring!
